Apathetic Customer Service turned to EXCEPTIONAL Service

I’ve placed orders for Man Crate products in the past and always had a very pleasant experience so, naturally, with Father’s Day approaching I immediately thought to get my Dad something awesome from Man Crates. Having had experience with their ordering process previously, I knew to expect a pre-authorization charge on my account in addition to the actual purchase cost. Typically, that pre-auth charge is reversed in just a few days and all is well. This time, surprisingly, my account was assessed 2 pre-auth charges in addition to the purchase charge and only one pre-auth fell off. I reached out to customer service via the text/chat feature to get confirmation that the second pre-auth would also come off. The rep I spoke with, Jennifer (if that’s really her name), was rude and snarky and it was completely uncalled for. Perhaps it’s because of my own profession that I have such high standards for customer service, but her snarky response was most certainly unwelcome and had she been one of my employees, she would not have gotten away with it. When I asked her for a link to complete a survey she mysteriously disappeared, so now I’m here leaving this review. Based on some of the other snippy responses made on bad reviews on here, it seems Man Crates has fostered a culture of rudeness and condescension among their customer “service” professionals, so I can only imagine the lack-luster response this will generate. Nevertheless, it’s not in my nature to let poor customer service go … here’s to hoping my Dad’s gift arrives on time and in pristine condition, and that the second pre-auth is reversed in 24 hours.

UPDATE: I’ve updated my review from 1 to 5 stars. While I was appalled at the way my inquiry was initially handled with customer service yesterday, I am perfectly pleased with Man Crates’ handling of my concerns. THIS is what exceptional customer service looks like and I am happy to say I will continue HAPPILY ordering from Man Crates in the future. Thank you Elizabeth and team for responding so quickly and proving what I’ve always believed about this company, quality products AND quality service!

PERFECT GIFT!!

I got one of these man crates (bbq one) for my husband for Father's day from our boys. We let him open it early as Father's day weekend is so busy for us. He had so much fun opening it up. I also had it wrapped in the diabolical ducttape cocoon. The crate itself was still the best. The pry bar is perfect for it. The boys loved to watch too! I will be ordering another crate for another gift in the future. It was wonderful!

Totally unimpressed!!! I purchased "Lovestruck Gift Card $79.99" for my husband. The picture on the site shows a heart that looks like chocolate, and quite frankly their gifts all include food so why wouldn't I thing it was chocolate. The heart was made of concrete; really $79.00 for a cheep hammer, goggles, and block of concrete!!!! The $50.00 gift card in the concrete was extra. Total cost $129.00 for a crap gift. They couldn't even have the decency to put the "Gift box" in a box. When it showed up the box was all beat up from the post office. Will never buy from this company again!!

Used my barrel smoker today for first…

Used my barrel smoker today for first time. It worked amazing. Was fairly easy to keep my temp at 250ish. Made a tritip using hickory and apple wood. I've read a review where someone was upset the smoker didn't come seasoned. I've never heard of one coming pre seasoned. I seasoned mine last night. Washed it with soapy water. Then applied coat of canola oil. Fired it up with hickory/oak coals and a few hickory wood chunks. Perfect. Only reason it's getting 4 stars is it doesn't have a port to add more coals and wood. I had to lift the barrel off the bottom. Kinda dangerous. So I'm going to cut an access door on it. Overall highly recommend it. Keep on smoking!

Loved the Whisky Appreciation Man…

We received the Whisky Appreciation Man Crate and it arrived on time and it looked phenomenal!! I read the reviews after I placed my order (I know, I know) but I’m glad I did because the reviews I read made me a little nervous. Fast forward to receiving it... My husband loved the concept, enjoyed opening the crate, and absolutely loved the contents of the crate. Good quality and a super fun gift!

Husband loved!

I got a whisky crate for my husband as an anniversary present. He loved opening the crate with the crow bar and was thrilled with the stuff inside. My only complaint is I delayed shipping on it and expected it to come on a Tuesday when he wouldn’t be home to see it delivered. It came on a Sunday and he saw the guy deliver it so it took some of the surprise out of it. But I would rather have it early than late. I would definitely buy one again.

Man Crates is the Best!

I can't even begin to tell you all how impressed I am with this company. It was my son's birthday and I wanted to get him a gift. My daughter said try Man Crates. I said, what is that? She preceded to tell me as she bought a Man Crate for her husband. I was passenger in our car so I immediately used my cell phone to order the Pit Master.

My son lives across the U.S. from me so I checked into next day delivery so it could arrive on his Birthday. At that time of the day next day wasn't available so I checked two day delivery. That was too expensive for me. Disappointed, I went ahead and ordered 3 day delivery.

I decided to call Man Crates to make sure everything went through ok since I ordered from my cell phone and then I mentioned the delivery. I said I went with 3 day delivery . I also told my entire story to the employee :-) She was very kind and helpful to me and not expecting to hear this, she said she could get my son's gift sent out on 2 day delivery. I said ok that would be great! I wasn't even charged for the delivery! Who ever heard of that! :-)

Later that night I checked the tracking of my son's Man Crate. It said it would be delivered TOMORROW!!! Indeed my son's Man Crate Pit Master arrived the very next morning on my son's Birthday! He and his wife LOVED IT! I have the photos to prove it! :-)

Again I have never had such great customer service ever and in these trying times for everyone all I can say is THANK YOU MAN CRATES!!! Also I am telling everyone I know my story and if they are looking for a gift or even something fun for themselves, you can't do any better than Man Crates!

I paid for a Saturday shipment. I ordered this in plenty of time for this to be delivered... I Paid $53 to have this delivered on Saturday (HIS BIRTHDAY)! Its going to arrive on TUESDAY! His birthday is SATURDAY...... It's Thursday, there is still time to send another, over night, but guess what the 100% guarantee covers... We'll give you the shipping cost back!!! Wow!! Thanks!!! I ordered the bacon crate on 5/3/21. Guaranteed to get here by 5/5/21. Did not receive it. Called to complain and they said it was delivered. I needed it by 5/6 to take with me so I asked for a refund. They said they only return shipping fee. I got home on 5/10 and there’s a package at my door. It was not even close to what I thought it was. The video said it’s hard to open and would create laughs and there’s a video because it’s so hard to open. It was opened in a matter of seconds. For the price of the product and high cost of shipping it’s definitely not worth it. Hopefully with all the trouble I’ve had and disappointment they will do something. It seems all the reviews I did read the response is we don’t sleep at night if the customer isn’t happy.
Somehow. I think they are sleeping just fine!!

The gift I ordered did not arrive on time--regardless of the fact that I paid almost $30 in shipping to have it arrive on the expected date. The tracking was also not updated very often, so I wasn't able to track it to see if it would arrive in time. If you're wanting a gift that's guaranteed to make it--this probably isn't your best bet.

Thank you for your feedback, and we're so sorry to hear your gift is arriving later than expected! We have looked into your order and can see using the FedEx tracking that the order did ship out on the 27th which, under normal circumstances with 2 day delivery would have had your package arrive on time.

We can see that our carrier did indeed drop the ball and we feel awful about that. After looking at the tracking we can see that there is no reason indicated by FedEx for the late delivery, although packages have been delayed by various issues shippers are facing during these uncertain times. Unfortunately we're unable to anticipate delays caused by our carriers, and would definitely have attempted to make alternate plans for your order if we could have.

I've gone ahead and issued a refund for your shipping costs, that refund should post within 5-10 business days.

This was my second Man Crates order and…

This was my second Man Crates order and both items were as pictured, actually, they were better quality than the picture can reveal. Ordered the Smash Me for my husband for his birthday and it was a big hit...no pun intended :) Ordered the second one for my co-worker's birthday today and what fun we had watching him open the crate. These are so unique and fun. Both were delivered as predicted when I placed my order. I am already checking my calendar for the next event that I can surprise someone with one of your great products.

Highly disappointed and upset

Highly disappointed and upset. I ordered the make your own smoker for my husband's birthday present. Guess what? It didn't even come in a man crate! The materials were missing, the metal was warped, and it sits at an angle. How are you going to have a website solely based on man crates and receiving your order in a crate yet when you receive it it's in a beat up cardboard box. Extremely unsatisfied. Thanks for making what was supposed to be an amazing birthday present turn out to be a horrible experience.

The crates are our the base of our brand and excellent gifts. However, we choose not to limit such glorious gift-giving to just wooden boxes. We offer other legendary gifts such as our: fresh-from-the-front-lines Ammo Cans, or our insanely-delicious JerkyGrams, and most recently our line of (If-You Want-Something-Done-Right-You-Have-To-) DIY project kits.

We do try our best to make it clear that certain items do not come in crates. Repeatedly on the site we make mention of this, specifically under the "add to cart" button we have written "This product ships in a box (NOT A CRATE) " as well as including a picture of how the item ships. In the product description we also have listed "Delivered: In an awesome cardboard box (NOT A CRATE)" shown on the page. On the cart page before you process your order we have also included this message and another picture of how the items ships as well. Sorry if you missed any or all of these signals, we've done our best to try and give you a heads up!

Bad Experience with the Folding Knife

I ordered the Slash and Stash folding knife. What a horrible experience. The instructions were among the worst, most unclear I have ever seen. I actually had to talk with support using their online chat and still got nowhere.

There were no indications which screws were for what, and the picture at the end of Step 1 had parts attached to the knife that were never mentioned in the text for Step 1.

I am a DIYer and know my way around tools, but this "project" was impossible to complete via the instructions or intuition. Overall a very bad experience. By the way, This is the only bad review I have ever left anywhere.

Not worth it. It’s a scam.

Last year, 2020, I received 2 Man Crates as gifts. The first was the carve a pipe and the second was skrimshaw a knife. The actual product of each kit were low quality. The pipe’s chamber and stem hole were drilled off center had a huge sand pit and burned through. Sandpits can happen with Briar. I emailed them and they sent me second briar block. Great service but bad product again. On the replacement the stem was glued onto place. This is awful pipe stems are never glued on. The holes were even wonkier than the first. Wrote them again and received no reply. A predrilled briar second cost about $15. These are obviously seconds. The stems are not vulcanite like another a $100+ pipe, they are plastic like on a Corncob pipe. A nice briarwood pipe is less than the cost of the kit. The knife kit was missing parts. The knife is a $20 to $30 knife, it arrived in rough shape. It is a name brand, Boker, who makes nice knives. But this one is on their lower end. For $150 you can get a very nice knife.

The real issue with these are the prices. The tools are useable but low quality. The kits are so over priced it makes these items a rip off. If you want to get a pipe kit got to a pipe store, they sell much nicer briar blanks for less money and better tools can begotten at big box home stores for less. Knife making supply stores sell knife making kits for much much less as well.

MOLDY JERKY

I ordered the $40 Easter eggs and 3/6 pieces of jerky came open and one was DISGUSTINGLY moldy. They refused to refund my order.
