Avoid AmeriGas!
Avoid AmeriGas, their pricing is outrageous. We just got ripped off paying $4.989 per gallon plus charges for HazMat and Fuel Recovery on the delivery. We also had to wait about 10 days for the delivery. I just called another local propane company and their price is $3.39 per gallon.
According to the BBC, there is a lawsuit in Michigan against AmeriGas for similar issues.
Ripped Off!
Ripped Off!
This is the biggest scam around! I called to report a gas leak at my home and the next thing I know, They bill me over $800 for a house call that lasted just over 2 hours. I did not authorize this work nor did they contact me before their rep showed up at my house. For this gas guy, they charged me $350/hr! When i called in to negotiate something more reasonable, they treated me like dirt and said they were not willing to help me.
AmeriGas, extortion, lack of service, unsafe business practices
AmeriGas is a company that should lose their license. Their service people do not check for gas leaks. They do not allow you to speak to anyone but a call center in Africa. My regulator was leaking. Probably for about a year, and a decent service person would have smelled the leak. Took over a week to get an appointment, but then the service person did not show. I usually fill my 120 gallon tank twice a year. This last 12 months, was filled 5 times and we were out of the country for a third of that time.
Their customer service is worse than Xfinity
Their customer service is worse than Xfinity. National Call Center? It is not “national” at all. It is “international” and they, without a doubt, have a script they follow. I was trying to get a new tank installed next to my existing one. I have called several times and was told “service has been scheduled, someone will reach out”. So far that has not happened. So I am switching providers. Now comes the process of getting their tank removed. Based on existing reviews, it could take a LONG time. DON’T do business with this company
Don’t I repeat Don’t ever use Amerigas…
Don’t I repeat Don’t ever use Amerigas they are a total rip off , we have had their services for 10 years leasing a tank and want to cancel , upon calling I find out it’s a fee totaling $500 to have it removed , mind you to set up and deliver was absolutely free , WTF I have never heard of that . I ask to speak to a mgr and was told to read their terms and agreements it’s in there, there was nothing they could do ….bullshit . Don’t recommend them at all.
Don't use this company
Don't use this company, find someone else for your home propane needs.
We signed up with a local propane company in Springdale, Arkansas over 20 years ago. Within the last 2 years, Amerigas acquired that local company and implemented their processes and prices.
Recently, requested a tank fill and was told it would be completed at the "current market price". After the fill was complete, i received the invoice and was shocked at the price per gallon, $3.06/gallon. I inquired with other local propane companies and was told the going local rate was approximately $1.70/gallon. After some back and forth with Amerigas, I decided to discontinue by business with them. Contacting the correct support help was excruciating and took multiple calls to their OFFSHORE support office to get to someone who could understand what I was requesting and that I could understand their spoken English. On the fifth call, I was successful at closing my account. When asked if I wanted to schedule a pick up time for the Amerigas leased propane tank, I found out there would be a $500 service visit and tank pickup fee. I refused the appointment and made other, much cheaper arrangements by a local individual to pickup and deliver the tank to the local Amerigas service center.
AmeriGas is not civic minded
AmeriGas is not civic minded, does not care about its longstanding customers. When they went to a centralized system, the quality of the firm went down, they have no technicians to service the equipment that people purchased from them, and have flaky people handling their consumer advocacy department. I have not had hot water in weeks because AmeriGas has not filled up my tank and it is below 16 percent so I had to put everything on pilot. Usually, AmeriGas refills the tank when it gets to 30 percent.
AmeriGas refuses to put me on budget billing for the summer due to their criteria. I have a seasonal job with less work hours during the summer, so I cannot pay up front during the summer. I paid up front for more than 26 years plus paid for furnaces and when they did maintenance of the equipment I purchased over the years. I used HEAP the past two years since becoming a senior. They have always gotten paid. Now, they will not even put a minimum amount of 100 gallons in the tank and bill me, budget bill me. Since it is their AmeriGas tank, another propane company will not refill the tank. AmeriGas has 100 dollars in my account, and they will not fill my tank with 100 dollars of propane because it is below the minimum that would be around 238 dollars more.
I am a senior with several chronic conditions, and it is difficult to become healthy with such abusive companies and lack of social services. HEAP emergency payments is not open because of missing funds and DOGE. How is this basic civility or decency in society?
This has gone on since May, and the AmeriGas Consumer Advocacy department has done nothing to help the matter and they only called me and emailed me because I sent a complaint about AmeriGas to the NYS governor's office, but so far my propane is not scheduled to be delivered.
I had planned to pay in advance but my federal tax refund is late. I should be receiving unemployment benefits because I am working less hours during the summer, but they have not fully processed my claim even though I filed at the end of June. Here it is August--no federal tax refund yet, no unemployment benefits yet...no hot water.
Zero stars
Zero stars, takes forever to deliver propane, charges random fees, signed me up for automatic delivery without my consent (when I told them up front I was only using as backup and wouldn’t need regular fills), charged huge fees when I had enough of the random bills and collection calls due to random bills and finally cancelled them. Sent me back to collections 12 days from final bill. Do not deal with these people, they are liars and thief’s and you’re stuck with them for years of grief if you do!
Extremely dissatisfied and disappointed
Extremely dissatisfied and disappointed. To do a simple locate, I am being charged $269. This is absurd. I wish I had better propane service options but I am stuck with the disappointment that is Amerigas.
Choosing AmeriGas for propane service…
Choosing AmeriGas for propane service has been one of the worst decisions I’ve made. I signed a contract expecting a straightforward tank swap, which I clearly communicated to the sales representatives. Despite this, the technician who was supposed to deliver the tanks called to say a site survey was required, completely unnecessary given that this was a simple replacement.
When I contacted the office for an update, I was told it would be taken care of. Hours passed without any follow-up. I called again, my third time, and was told the technician would call me directly. He finally called at 3:30 PM to say he was tied up on another job and couldn’t make it. Worse, I was told I’d now need to reschedule and wait another week.
After five calls, it's clear AmeriGas has no regard for customer experience. There seems to be zero coordination between the sales team and the technicians regarding what the customer actually purchased. To add insult to injury, I’m now being told I’ll have to pay over $150 plus tax to cancel a contract, even though not a single service has been performed.
If you're located in the Ringwood area or nearby counties like Passaic, Bergen, or Essex, I strongly urge you to think twice before doing business with AmeriGas. Based on my experience, they seem more interested in collecting fees than delivering reliable service.

I am filing a complaint with the Michigan Attorney General against this company. They no longer give you access to a local office. You can only call their phone center in Kenya, which is numerous given they are named, Amerigas.
They did not autofill my tank in the dead of winter. Thankfully my daughter checks our cottage and saw that the heat was off due to no propane. I immediately called and was told they could not fill it for at least a week.
I had to pay a huge amount of money to get heaters in my home to keep the pipes from freezing. I called another company and they brought a tank out the next day.
I called Amerigas to have the tank picked up and was told there would be no fees given their error.
In the meantime, while the tank sat on my property, they charged me a rental fee.
I called again to Kenya and was promised it would be picked up and no fees assessed.
The tank was not picked up until May. At that time they sent out another bill, charging me a termination of contract fee, a technician fee and a pick up fee, costing a whopping $652.54!
I have called so many times on this it’s utterly ridiculous. I have been told there are no records of my calls and that the fees are legit.
I am in the process of filing with the Attorney General of Michigan, who has already been involved in numerous lawsuits against this company that they won.
I called their resolution department and they only removed the technician fee.
Unbelievable that they would not autofill my tank, cause me to have to spend thousands of dollars to keep my pipes from freezing, promise me repeatedly that the charges would be dropped and still claim I owe a tank removal fee and early termination fee.
Do not use this company. You can look up the lawsuits online.

This business has been run into the ground since it was purchased by a foreign company. They gouge you for everything.
do not use AMERIGAS
all ex Amerigas customers need to get together and sue them for price gouging, letting people run out and charging outargues service charges when they let you run out. major fails on their part all they care about is ripping you off. 500.00 to pick up a tank they own that is empty is absurd. do yourself a favor and find someone local that is not AMERIGAS,
Beware of Amerigas
Beware of Amerigas. We had them since we moved in in 2019. They have slowly been increasing their prices. Last bill was $4.19 per gallon. So we switched to Economy Heating.
Called Amerigas to cancel service/future deliveries and have them come pick up the tank. They are charging a $300 fee for tank pickup and a $120 fee for cancellation service fee. What the heck!! Fortunately, the savings with Economy Heating will pay for that before the first year is even up.
Their fees are outrageous
Their fees are outrageous! $120 for a dispatch via $134 a month to rent a tank. When I canceled my service they charged me $684 to remove a tank that they owned. I'm paying my debts to them and have switched to suburban but I highly recommend unless you have money to throw at them to not use this company. I'm on social security disability and can definitely not afford their fees. I went into the hospital and Sawyer gas own them when I got out it was AmeriGas.
We converted to natural gas and now…
We converted to natural gas and now need to get the propane tank out of the ground. There's a lot of propane in there but they say they don't pump it ... told us to use it up ... I asked how do you do that with a natural gas conversion? The "customer service" agent hung up ... These people do not deserve to be in business...
Bad experience
Made numerous appointments to move tank, took time off from work and they don’t show up.
Finally said remove your tank. Again took a few phone calls. Want to charge over $300.00 for removal. Unacceptable service!!
Satisfactory
We just cancelled our service with Amerigas two days ago and they came out today to pick up their tank. We had had them for about 15 years at our house, about as long as we have lived our house. While would not say that this company is totally horrible, I do believe they could have been better in some ways.
One thing they did right was provide a clear explanation of every charge on a bill. The website where I could pay the bill was user friendly. Once an account was set up, I could pay the bill online without any hassle.
I used to like dealing with our local company called Heritage Propane, which was actually quite friendly and easy to deal with. I could call them on the phone and even pay the bill over the phone. They were a nice, small local company until they were taken over by Amerigas and I suddenly had to deal with a large and impersonal business with customer service agents from outside of the country. It is for this reason that we decided to leave Amerigas and sign up for service with a local service like we once had. With a company that answers the phone and doesn't speak in a heavy foreign accent. With a company where I can stop in at a local office and talk with somebody.
Amerigas is doing its part to try to keep customers from leaving them, with steep charges for doing that. They are billing me $300 for tank removal. When the men came to pick up the tank, they were quite happy that the tank was already disconnected and waiting in a very convenient location for them to pick up. They were here for all of about 10 minutes at most just loading a tank onto their truck. I asked for a discount since the tank was already ready for them, and they said it was unlikely that would happen. We will also be billed $120 for the privilege of having them come (a "service dispatch" charge). We were told that we would receive a refund on the unused propane. We paid $4.99 a gallon for the gas, but we aren't sure if that is what they will pay us.
They have consistently billed us at the rate of $4.99 a gallon for propane, which is quite a bit more than the $2.58 a gallon that is the national average price.
In the final analysis, I am not sure if I would deal with this company again and I would not advise dealing with them unless you want to be with them and no other company indefinitely. Leaving is expensive and you may not get the quality of customer service that you expect from a company.
Bad Gas like indigestion
I had auto service but ran out of gas, i called and they said i was not auto service. That was a lie. This is not the first time they did this. Then they want to charge you for testing the lines because you ran out of gas. Cant talk to a local person. Prices are the highest in the area. You made it easy for me to switch.
Did not respond to urgent need of propane
Did not respond immediately to an urgent request to fill an empty tank to heat our home in 5 degree weather. Called several times. Customer Service scheduled us several times to come add propane but they did not show up. We had no choice but to contact another propane company and they came out immediately and exchanged the tank to theirs and filled it up. AmeriGas tank sat in our yard for about 2 months before they picked it up. We called several times to schedule this also with no luck getting them to remove their tank. We have HOA rules which required removal. When they finally came to remove their tank they charged us $299 for the tank removal and $119 for the dispatch fee. They refuse to refund this because they say we were not on automatic refill which is not true. We have always been on n automatic refill for years. They claim that we changed it and they refuse to believe that it was a clerical error on their part. Now we have to pay this after all we went through. The only reason we had to discontinue their service was because they did not come out to fill up our tank in freezing 5 degree weather within 3 days of us constantly contacting them about this being an urgent matter. Propane is our only means of heating our house and using our appliances.
