Avoid AmeriGas, their pricing is outrageous. We just got ripped off paying $4.989 per gallon plus charges for HazMat and Fuel Recovery on the delivery. We also had to wait about 10 days for the delivery. I just called another local propane company and their price is $3.39 per gallon. 

According to the BBC, there is a lawsuit in Michigan against AmeriGas for similar issues.  

My experience with Petro is genuine and on public record in Rhode Island. PLEASE READ BEFORE CONSIDERING THIS TERRIBLE PROVIDER. They currently operate and wreak havoc in 12 states. I intend to publish this review on all available review platforms in efforts to WARN others, especially new customers.

Not only will Petro Home Services aka Petro Heat completely trap you as a customer, they will spend a large sum of their own money to drag you to court for your INCORRECT account balance.

BACKGROUND: I signed up with Petro as a first-time homeowner in Fall 2020. Upfront, Petro offered new customer incentives that outweighed competitors in my area. During my acquisition process, Petro offered "buy a 1st year of service plan at $214, get the second year for FREE". Their "Premium Plan" included several yearly complimentary maintenance visits and discounted repairs/parts. From 2020-2022 I was also enrolled within their "Smart Pay Plan" payment option (where you're basically paying them ~$300 per monthly to add to your piggybank/account). The funds you auto-provide can be used for oil deliveries and service work when needed. Petro markets this option as a peace of mind tactic, it's all a strategy to get your money faster!

I contacted Petro for a heating system issue needing address in winter of 2022. At that time I realized Petro had charged my account (withdrew from my banking account) to renew my service plan, which was meant to be my FREE 2nd year. From Feb. 2022 - April 2022 I had to take an enormous about of time and effort to get refunded for that charge, they gaslit me saying that was incorrect promo offer even though I had emails to back me up from Fall 2020. THEY BAIT AND SWITCH ON YOU. While working to get my refund, I decided to utilized the benefits included in the service plan. They scheduled my "Tune-Up" and another general visit, which they ended up cancelling on their end to prioritize other customers' needs that winter. WHILE this was all happening, Petro still had not addressed my original heating system issue. It took 2 WHOLE MONTHS for them to send a somewhat helpful tech (second person) to my house to just bleed my pipes! KICKER, they charged me for the work when they were done for ~$350. SO, it took another week of back and forth to issue me a refund. The work was covered under my service plan, they knew it and tried to pull a fast one on me. They already have your money, if enrolled in Smart Pay they DO NOT CARE. Petro will make you feel completely powerless, they price gauge oil fuel prices over $1+ more than local providers, they will call you DAILY if you're late on payment, come to your property without advance notice; sticking you with an enormous bill, IGNORE your requests to cancel service plans and auto-deliveries leaving you with the grueling task to obtain a refund. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!!

COURT TOPIC: Petro sued me for ~$1,500. They came to my property without notice a day after my then ~$1,600 balance was squared up from previous oil deliveries. I was no longer enrolled in Smart Pay, or service plans and requested to no longer receive auto-deliveries (I kick myself because I didn't have my requests in writing). My balance went from $0 on 4/11/23 to $926 on 4/13/23. I refused to pay as I did not authorize. They told me I never canceled auto-delivery!! Months went on with late fees after late fees, by 11/27/23 they renewed my original service plan agreement I had already CANCELED in Nov. 2022 and did so even though there was zero communication coming from my end. They added more late fees before finally selling my debt to collections (a lawyer). I brought several Trust Pilot reviews you're seeing here below to my defense in regards to Petro ignoring requests to cancel. THEY TRAP YOU IN A VICIOUS CYCLE TO CONSTANTLY BE IN DEBT TO THEM. That is why they came to my property immediately once my balance was at $0. THEY PREY ON FIRST TIME HOME OWNERS; think of it as love-bombing.. then completely toxic.

I was ruled to pay $926. Petro's witness was some random account lady who swore under-oath that she personally listened to 3 years of my phone calls and claiming I never cancelled anything! They "waived" all late fees and the unauthorized 4th year service plan in court like they were the GOOD GUYS, HA!

STEER CLEAR AND RUN. They will cost you time, money and your sanity. Throw any promo pamphlets you ever receive in the garbage!

If you are currently with Petro I strongly advise you to leave. THEY ARE ROBBING YOU BLIND. Anytime you need to contact them for ANYTHING do it by email, never by phone. HAVE EVERYTHING IN WRITING when dealing with Petro. This company is an outright bully, a scam, unethical, an absolutely nightmare; you are willing signing up for mental and financial burdens if you chose this company for any services or goods!

Do not use these guys. For three years they were replacing part in my furnace with non-approved parts by my manufacturer, which kept causing problems. Not until I has another technician I had to hire did they even find out about this.
