Worst company ever
Worst company ever, on auto fill and I run out of propane constantly. On auto pay and I get late payment notices, Stay away go to a local vendor, I will be switching out to electric. By far the worst, Should have read reviews before signing up. Also customer service is in overseas and they barely speak English.
Tank Rental Fee
I received a bill for tank rental in the amount of 172.71.
I contacted Customer Service to request this fee be removed from my account.
I was told this could not be done,To avoid this fee i was required to purchase 240 gallons per year.
I only have a 125 gal tank and it is hooked only to gas fireplace logs. It is impossible for me to get or use 240 gals per year.
I am requesting this fee be removed it is unreasonable to expect me to use their minimum .
False Bills and No resolution
I used to be a customer of Amerigas in 2022 but closed my account when we moved. In December of 2024 we received a bill for almost 600$ for a delivery that was made to our previous address when we were not living there. I have called three times to dispute this debt, it has gone to collections, and I still have no resolution. This has been a TERRIBLE experience and I have spent hours on the phone.
AVOID THIS COMPANY IF YOU CAN
AVOID THIS COMPANY IF YOU CAN! They have charged me $249.49 for services I did not request and even verified I would not be charged about requiring a quote to repair a plastic lid. Additionally, they have charged me a $36.00 late fee for not paying my bill when THEY told me not to pay it until the case number is resolved. I have called 5 times since January of 2025 and each time, other than 1 where I spent over an hour waiting for a supervisor to come on the phone, I have been told that my case is still in review and they were attempting to contact the local office manager. The last time I called to check on the status (March 31, 2025) I was told there was not account history of a case number with an adjustment of the price on it. I was told that after "a certain amount of time" that data "goes away", so I am starting over.
Customers are unable to contact local Amerigas Offices for resolution and you must go through a call center in another country.
All I want to do id have my bill corrected so that I can pay my bill, but I have zero confidence that this issue would be resolved if I paid any portion of this bill prior to resolution.
Amerigas hidden predatory charges
I terminated my service with Amerigas after 12 years and was immediately billed a $299.99 pickup fee for a small 120 gallon propane tank. Along with that, I was charged a $119.99 "dispatch fee".
The total bill was $448.33 with taxes. This was after I payed a $135.42 yearly rental charge.
Because of the severe winter weather, the tank was frozen into the ground. I had to use auxiliary heat to thaw the ground. I disconnected the tank from my service and rolled it approx. 25 yards through two feet of snow to an easy access point in my driveway. It took the driver about five minutes to load the tank and be on his way. He was very appreciative of the fact I saved him a lot of labor.
Considering the fact that I removed the tank, I tried negotiating for a reduction in the pickup charge. The best they said they could do was remove the "dispatch fee", whatever that is. I am still faced with $320.24 including tax for a driver to pull up my drive, place a tank on a lift gate, place it on board, strap it down, and depart.
If this tank would have been a large 350 gallon or even a 250 gallon, I probably would not be writing this review as it would have been more labor on the part of Amerigas.
I should also mention that the tank did not have a current inspection. They are required by law to be recertified every five years. This tank had not been touched in seven years.
BUYER BEWARE:
Amerigas is loaded with hidden charges among them early termination fees (contract), fuel transfer fees (more than 5 percent fuel remaining), pickup fees, dispatch fees, etc.
It was my error renting a tank in the first place. That's another story.
If you go with Amerigas Propane, READ the small print!
Try this first…
After seeing the reviews and overall rating score, if you are still considering Amerigas, try this first: go outside and open your car door. Place your left hand flat on the door jamb and with your right hand, slam the door shut with all your might. If the level of pain you experience is acceptable - Congratulations! You will love everything about Amerigas. From their 3rd party international call center that is incapable of anything other than a scripted, ambivalent response; their auto fill program which is sure to result in your tank running out of propane at least once per winter, or any issue whatsoever with billing that will require a minimum of 3 calls with no record of any previous call on file - your impressive tolerance for pain will be challenged time and time again.
AMERIGAS is a NIGHTMARE you never want.
In 2022 I bought a property in Idaho, which had an Amerigas (AG) tank. I called Amerigas to change the account into my ame and they made me sign a 3 yr contract. A year later I discovered AG charges two to three times more than local companies in my area. I tried to wait out the 3 yrs, but couldn't take the AG price gouging and cancelled on 2/2025. I had switched to a local company (The Coop) in July 24, they put the remianing propane in the AG tank into my new tank and moved the tank an easily accessible location for pick up. It took AG a long time to come pick up their tank, although I said Call Me First, they did not. 35 days later, I noticed AG was trying to deduct $587 from my bank account. I tried to view the invoices AG allegedgly had listed online, but the invoices would not come up when I clicked on See Invoice. I stopped payment on the withdrawal, because AG was attempting to charge me more than the written contract stated and charge me for a charge that did not apply and I have a right to see the charges first before payment.. On Facebook you can find contacts for AG Customer Service. (won't let me post them here) Go online to Facebook, Reddit, Nextdoor, BBB and you will find other AG customer complaints to prove AG is a nightmare you never want to experience. The DOJ needs to investigate AG and put a stop to their price gouging, deceptive business practices, constant changes to their contract in a form that has continuously been upheld by courts that the form Amerigas uses (deceptively making changes to the contract signed and not explaining the changes clearly when they attempt to change their contract by inserting the new contract into their web site that you must 'acknowledge' before looking at your bill, or stating that you must object to the new contract within 30 days, is not binding. The American Bar Association has an entire article about this deceptive practice. Google American Bar Click Wrap Online Contracts.
IF YOU PURCHASE A HOME THAT HAS AN AMERIGAS TANK, INSIST THE SELLER CANCEL THEIR CONTRACT WITH AMERIGAS AND GET TANK REMOVED BEFORE CLOSING. There are better, honest propane companies out there. Amerigas is not one of them.
Bad Buisness
Be advised this is a prime example of Big Companies that are thieves I purchased my property with an existing AmeriGas tank on the property called to have them remove their property which is a 250 gallon tank was told that I would have to pay $299.99 tank pickup fee + service fee of $199.99. Which is a total of $419.00. Unbelievable it's their property and they're charging me to pick up their property. My advice is use a local mom and pop propane company and stay clear of these large businesses. Also supervisor from India that's right not America told me these fees where added to their website in 2022. Hmmm. Americans Outsourcing to another country just to turn around and screw other Americans. Bad buisness. Time to lawyer up it's not about the money at this point it's more about the principal of business. BE ADVISED WOULDNT USE THIS COMPANY 100% disgusting.
446.00 for one minute worth of work for…
446.00 for one minute worth of work for a potential leak. 346.00 of that due to lawn decoration near the tank. Do not do business with them. Moore County NC
Amerigas service is horrible.
Amerigas service is horrible.
They don"t deliver the propane properly, I was out of gas for four days. Customer care is in India, No communication.
Technician came to check the gas leak lied, He is not a mechanic. He don't have any proper tools.
I am out, going to local company.
Amerigas really sucks.
“0” rating
“0” rating. Was with AmeriGas for 8 years. Requested a tank fill paid $430 upfront. They told me I needed a new tank. AmeriGas called wouldn’t service a 1 appliance account, took the tank and charged me $450 to take the tank out. Tried to get money back through customer service line, spent over 2 hours on hold with a foreign call service was told I was out of luck…. Do not use this company under any circumstances
Don’t deal with these guys…
I’m 65 and this is the worst company I’ve dealt with in my entire life. Highest price around and poorest customer service. Called over six months ago to discontinue service and have tank picked up. Tank is still in my yard and I got billed for tank rental. Friend has had the same experience. Tank has been in her yard for over a year. Go elsewhere. These guys are incompetent crooks.
AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS
AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS – Dishonest, Unreachable, and Exploitative Fees
If I could give zero stars, I would. This company is an absolute nightmare to deal with. You can never reach the local office—they are completely unresponsive. The Indian call center is at least polite and answers the phone, but they lack any real authority to help with anything. Even they were unable to reach the local office and told me it would take 24-72 hours just to hear back.
I’m canceling my service, and they are demanding nearly $500 just to pick up the tanks I’ve been renting from them—tanks that I cannot return myself because they refuse to allow it. This fee is supposedly justified by the “inspection” they claim to perform on every fill-up, but that’s a complete joke. I had two separate fill-ups where the bottom stand rings were completely rusted out and at serious risk of failure. Did their techs mention anything? No. They just filled the tanks and left, leaving a dangerous situation unnoticed. The only reason I caught it was sheer luck, as these tanks are on a part of my property I rarely check.
So what exactly is my rental fee paying for? Certainly not safety or proper maintenance. This company is happy to take your money but does nothing to ensure their own equipment is in proper condition. And when you finally decide to leave, they gouge you for more money on the way out.
This is the definition of a predatory company—they don’t care about safety, customer service, or fairness, just squeezing every last dollar out of their customers. Do yourself a favor and find another provider before you get trapped in their web of fees and negligence.
$107 for 3 minutes of NO
I had the misfortune of attempting to become an AmeriGas customer (AG) when I scheduled a home visit in January and waited for 2 weeks in the dead of an N. Cali winter for the rep to show. Within 3 minutes it was clear he had no intention of helping us and would not lease or sell us a 500 gal outdoor tank. His 2-week planned visit lasted about "no time". I had similar experiences with Ferrell, Campora, and Blue Star before Suburban helped us. The only difference is that none of these other "find a way to say no" losers didn't charge us $107.23 for a visit from a naysayer. Come on, they can't even spell my name correctly on the bill. I'm not paying this extortion and they should be ashamed of themselves for trying to rip me off. But I doubt that they are.
Update: In response to a BBB complaint they zeroed this account out. Thank you AmeriGas.
On feb 3rd 2025 my truck was totaled my a amerigas driver with no resolution insight..:((
On feb 3rd 2025, a amerigas delivery truck slid on my driveway while attempting to deliver a propane tank,
He slid into the front of my truck and caused 5300 worth of damage, was barely able to drive to the car shop about 5 miles away... the driver of the propane truck was nice and followed me to the shop because transmission oil and antifreeze was leaking all over the road.
Every interaction since that day with amerigas has been not productive... i have called at least ten times to amerigas.... they cant tell me who is working on getting a check to me so i can get my truck fixed.... they send me from one phone department to another... Every time i call.. they tell me to be patient and that a manager is working on it.... i have been patient, its be almost a month.
Yet, still no information when or how my truck will be fixed or check sent out for me to do it myself.... the same day of the truck getting hit i sent amerigas the car shops name and phone # so they would have all the information needed to get the claim started... nothing so far, very disappointed:((
Run, Don't Walk to a Local Dealer
Amerigas is really good at setting up the account but if you ever need to contact them again you are screwed. You will stay on the line for at least 45-60 min. I moved and told them to not make a delivery (twice I called to tell them) since we were closing a few days later. They delivered it anyway and wanted me to pay for it even though I didn't own the house when they made the delivery. Turns out their contract requires you to keep it open for three years regardless of the fact you don't live there anymore. Even moving out of state. I didn't read the fine print and they were trying to charge me a termination fee of $168.00 because my current contract didn't expire until 11/2025. They didn't care that someone else was signing up with them to continue the service. I finally reopened the account (this is really stupid) so they removed the termination fee. Why they want you to keep an account open for the duration of the contract knowing full well you don't live there anymore is pathetically stupid.
There is a reason most of these reviews are 1 star. Find a local company to serve you and not this one. I wish I had a receipt handy so I could verify that I was an actual customer but not available.
Starting the process of contacting…
Starting the process of contacting PUCO. They always have a reason why you owe them money and a reason why they can’t help you, or why the situation your facing is your problem and not there’s. They are unwilling to help. The disrespectful, non professional ways that they conduct “service” needs to be looked into.
First issue with AmeriGas…
I have never had an issue with AmeriGas until recently. I was supposed to get a delivery mid January but did not receive. Been calling everyday to be put on the “emergency delivery list” and they keep telling us “the truck is enroute” but no sign of it yet. Getting concerningly low on propane with a big snow storm coming sooo….ugh.
AmeriGas - the worst
I closed my account with AmeriGas after months of not responding to issues. On 11/25/2024 AeriGas sent me a final bill indicating they owed me $185.71 I called to confirm and was told they would send me a check. That check for the balance owed never arrived. I called three times and was connected to the call center offshore who explained they are not connected to AermiGas and have no way to process the refund indicated on my final bill. I was basically told the best way to get my money is to take the company to court with a copy of the final bill. That means I need to file and spend money in small claims to get what is owed and admitted by AemeriGas as being owed. Terrible company and has months of issues.
Amerigas is the worst company I have ever dealt with
I'm signed up for automatic refill with Amerigas. I've been without heat and unable to use my stove for two weeks. The customer service line in India is completely useless. Their employees are very difficult to understand and they seem powerless to do anything for you. After five frustrating calls, I've been told that I'll need to wait another week for a delivery. Amerigas is the worst company I've ever dealt with.
