As an Electricity provider, I had no issues with Energia throughout the year contract and some of the CSR staff were very helpful.
The only Elec issues we faced where due to ESB Outages - so prety standard.
However, the company really shows its colours on renewal imho.
My contract was due to expire on Oct 15th just gone and had it timed in my calendar to look for new options at renewal.
One of the staff there in Energia told me to not change over or look to move until "1 day" after my contract had expired as Energia will try and hit me with a 50 euro termination fee if I change over on my contract expiration date of the 15th.
Anyhow, before I started looking elsewhere, I had a look at the contract renewal options on my account.
Here, as a valued customer, I was offered a new contract option of "Rural electricity 24hr rate" of 42.65c/kWh with a 20% discount.
So my new standard rate would be 34.12 c/kWH. The PSO was listed as 26.29 and standing charge at 337.02.
After looking around, I changed over to Flogas for the year as they were the cheapest option on the market yesterday 16/10/2025 at Fixed yearly standard rate of 24.08 including VAT, 334 standing charge and 26.29 PSO - so happily moved to them for my Elec for the year. Also, this is Fixed meaning they wont turn around in April and increase the charges by 10% or whatever else is deemed appropriate by other providers.
On calling Energia to advise them I was leaving and providing my final Meter reading which had been given to Flogas, they asked if I would reconsider and that they could offer 24 c/kWh ex VAT - I asked them why that had not been the case on the renewal option within my account and they advised they had discretion to provide better deals over the phone.
They are not alone in their greed when it comes to pricing residential customers but would be hesitant now to go back to them on renewal time in the future.

Very good service but took a while to get the best deal possible.

Awful company to deal with at renewal time, so many hoops to jump through.
My wife and I were existing customers and tried to renew, however the renewal options were not clear and extremely limited on the app or website (plenty for new customers though).
Tried calling, but nobody ever answers the calls, sent an email asking for renewal details/options and got a reply stating (yes you guessed it) to call them..
Sent a second email and again told by the care team don’t have any information on renewals, and to call. We were offered a call back option at this stage but declined (far too late), should not be this difficult to renew your contract, especially when in credit .

The email provided by Energia is the same email I have previously used to ask for assistance (after being unable to get anyone on the phone due to long wait times ), only to be told that they couldn’t help me and that I should call their customer support number, so to be told to put ‘Trustpilot’ in the subject bar in order to actually get any assistance should tell everyone exactly how this customer service operates.

They have my money and don't respond to my communications.
Cancelled due to their unannounced price increases when I signed up. Now they took two months by direct debit when my PV showed I was in credit and they shouldn't have taken anything.
Energia have agreed to refund the payments they took from my account. A little miffed that it will take 2 weeks for this to happen. Happy it is finally heading to a resolution.

I like to be able to phone in, you can and they answer their phones in a minute or so. Amazing in this day. And you get a real human being, who is helpful and kind too.

No sooner had I signed up to renew the contract for another 12 months with Energia, and within days the unit rates were increased which they stayed silent about. I then switched to Electric Ireland within the 14 day cooling off period, yet I was charged a €50 termination fee. Apparently Energia and another provider are notorious for slipping this in in the hope the customer won't spot it.

They convinced to switch on the door and then refused to get out of the contact without termination fee.

Much higher kWh rates for renewing a 12-month contract than for new customers. So much for looking after loyal costomers!

Having moved from Energia to Electric Ireland, and advised the Energia CallCenter person that I had no intention of moving back to Energia, I was disgusted to get an email from Guia thanking me for staying with them.!!!
Most unethical and shady treatment in my humble opinion.
The only way Energia can retain customers is to offer them the new business rate when their contract is about to expire – – and not two weeks after they move to another company.
Horse and stable door comes to mind

I missed my renewal date and was charged full rate for the following month. I investigated and found, again, that Energia gave the best rate for an EV user. When I rang to ask to renew as per the original rate the agent immediately offered to backdate my contract to the original end date. The rates have increased (as have all the suppliers) but Energia still offer the best deal.. we can avail of the EV rate to use the Washing machine and the Dishwasher

I heard this morning that Energia are to be sold to a French company for 2 .3 Billion Euro. Where is the regulator who should be protecting the rights of us customers?
Instead of being opened up to competition it seems to me that the electricity market has been opened up to being ripped off by profiteers.

Richard called me to prevent losing me as a customer and it worked. He was more than willing to answer all my queries and concerns and was very patient despite my indecision. Great asset to the company, a pleasure to deal with
