Review of Bloombar Watches
Submitted a part ex interest in a watch via their website (JLC Master Compressor Memovox).
Having heard nothing, after a few days I followed up with a phone call (previous experience with Bloombar resulted in them missing the on line submission). They confirmed they had the message but the right person was on holiday until the following week.
The following week I received a call with a very low offer for my Rolex Explorer 1, so dismissed this and enquired re straight sale price. I have no issue with the low offer, the JLC was on consignment and Bloombar understandably didn’t want my watch.
They suggested a price but I made an offer a couple of hundred pounds less as a starter for 10, hoping to negotiate. I was told they would contact the owner and call me back either later that day or the next.
A few days later I emailed Bloombar to advise I had no contact and express my disappointment with the service received. Sometime later I saw a missed call from them. No message left/no email response. I can only assume the lack of response suggests they have nothing to say.
Being a watch collector I feel this service is poor. If I was the owner of the JLC I would be disappointed.
Review of Fedex
Supplied me with two invoices and supporting documentation relating to companies I have never dealt with.
Contacted FedEx repeatedly to ask for correct details so I can marry them up and satisfy myself I am paying the correct duties/taxes. Repeatedly ignored my requests and just issued a 7 day notice re debt collection. Gearing adverse impact on my credit rating, I paid the duties/taxes and still have no idea to what they hate to. Continue to request the correct information without response.
Review of New Zealand Mint
NZM use FedEx for their international deliveries. FedEx have invoiced me for duties and taxes which I have subsequently challenged and been refunded. They have again invoiced me for goods they state came from NZM, and may well have as I have purchased many many items from them, running into ‘000’s. However, FedEx have provided copies of invoices from companies in the US and Hong Kong. Due to previous errors I have requested the proper invoices to tie them up and satisfy myself I am paying the correct charges. FedEx have ignored my repeated requests and just sent me a 7ish demand or debt collectors. I felt I had no option but to pay and continue to request the correct data. FedEx will not engage and NZM cannot help (albeit they tried), stating FedEx are a third party. In my opinion FedEx are operating on behalf of NZM and they should not so easily disassociate themselves.

Contacted them a few weeks ago re sale of two watches direct to them. I heard nothing and followed it up, again no response other than their standard automatic email response. A polite ‘no thanks’ is all that was needed. They’re very quick to take their commission on watches I have bought and sold on the platform, shame they don’t have the same enthusiasm for customer service. Watchfinder on the other hand, very slick and quick responses.

Sent a request for sale of 2 x Rolex watches. Heard nothing and then an email saying they have had a new email system and to let them know if haven’t heard anything. Left it a week and replied to say I hadn’t. Never bothered to respond. A polite ‘no thanks’ would have been appreciated, rather than being ignored. Given I have purchased Rolex watches from them in the past I find this approach to customer loyalty rather disappointing.

Review of Subdial
Had previously reviewed with one star when I tried to negotiate a deal on a Cartier. I made an offer, Subdial made a counter offer, I then made a second offer. Subdial responded with a second counter offer higher than their first. Childish and unprofessional to my mind, hence my original one star review. I then received communications from ‘Christy’ saying they were one of the founders, made apologies for the different staffing used at weekends and ultimately did a deal. I subsequently withdrew my review, putting it down to a genuine one off.
Whether those communications were from ‘Christy’ I wouldn’t know. However, I gave Subdial the benefit of the doubt and today contacted them for a consignment on a Rolex Daytona. I received an email on the 28th March 2024 with an offer of 8% fees for the ‘next month’, for sonsignment to first time sellers. I duly followed the link on the email, filled in the details of the watch, and added photos. Subdial then respond with 10% fees.
Either I have missed something and the offer wasn’t actually intended for me or subsequently withdrawn, or there is a lack of integrity… which causes me to wonder if this translates into the watches they sell, personal details and watch collections/images supplied. I’m glad at least I bought the Cartier via EBay and their authenticity service.

Amex aware PayPal has stopped using Amex for transactions and have done nothing about it. Contacted them 3 times and ended up making a complaint… now have to wait 35 days.

Ordered a couple of coins… one of which had the title of 2012 1oz Silver Britannia. I received the coins and instead of a 2012 I received a 2017. I got in touch to try and rectify the situation only to be told it was my fault… when they say 2012 they don’t actually mean it and I should have stated I wanted a 2012.
They have offered to sell me a 2012… guess what… I won’t be returning.
Clearly too big to care.

Review of Currys
3 hours of calls to Curry’s and Samsung as they could not agree if our noisy fridge freezer is still under warranty or not. Having spoken to six people in curry’s after being passed from department to department my wife made a complaint, clearly being dissuaded by telling her it would take a long time. Non the less she persevered… 25 minutes to take her name, address and model number of the fridge with long delays between each item of information. The sixth time today she has repeated the same information. She was simply given a complaint number and that’s it. She wasn’t asked the nature of her complaint.
We are still non the wiser if our fridge freezer is under warranty and will now pay to get it repaired ourselves.
When we bought the fridge freezer we bought a Samsung washing machine for circa £1000. Incidentally, this broke and we had the same problems with after sales service from Curry’s and Samsung. In the end we went to John Lewis for a new washing machine for peace of mind. We also bought 3 expensive televisions from Curry’s around the same time… I hope they don’t break!
