worthless company
I was suddenly being charged monthly…
I was suddenly being charged monthly for premier service and it was without my knowledge that because I had purchased a particular phone, supposedly, that I am locked into their premier plan?! Absurd. Even telling them I was about to go online and confirm bad reviews that I had also read about being trapped and not allowed to cancel their subscription, I was told to go return my phone and buy a different one without the trappings (which would be hard to do because it's unclear which phones come with the trap).
Service and value is GREAT, cancellation process requires phone call... not so much!
Service works great, is a fantastic VALUE. I'm disheartened to see so much negative feedback. That being said, I am here to weigh in on deceptive customer service policy of not permitting service cancellation request via email.
Customer service was helpful, but I should NOT have had to call. Email should have been sufficient to cancel service, especially when request sent FROM email address on file.
While someone in a board room can claim this policy is for security... this is purely an attempt at customer "retention".
Making it more difficult to cancel a service is NOT customer service. Please do better.
Ooma is a fantastic service, and is better than this sort of tactic.
Thank you!
PS - I cancelled second line of service, still utilizing primary. Will likely be adding/recommending this service to friends and family who insist on keeping 'home' phone in addition to cellular. : }
The Ooma Office app is terrible
The Ooma Office app is terrible. While it looks simple, it constantly has technical issues and the messaging/features are unreliable and poorly designed.
The worst part is cancelling the service. It took me two full days of calling because instead of helping, their reps just try to upsell more services. Extremely frustrating and unprofessional.
⚠️ I do not recommend Ooma Office at all.
Switch to OpenPhone (now Quo) instead – far better service, better features, and no headaches.
A call feature Custom does not work ir…
A call feature Custom does not work or save as a choice and CS cannot fix or explain why. Surprise Price increases without notice. I can fax and easy to install . I still get spam calls but not as many before I got this service . Get ready to repeat yourself 3 to 4 times to CS.They dont understand the product for this company. And expect you to call back several times to get things resolved
There cant be a worst company than…
There cant be a worst company than this.. They charge your card without telling asking you they wil keep trying for 10$ to 20 to 600$ whatever they can.
I asked for account statement they wont give.. he said wait for 5 minutes we will send in 2 days. after 5 minutes / 2 days nothing. They charged my right while i was talking for 4 months when i owed only two months. She said i charged you for September also.. hee hee hee .. so stupid and retarded
Abysmal customer service
Abysmal customer service. After I got the phone and before setting it up I realized it would not work for my dad. Trying to get a human on the line to find out how to return it took forever. They acted like they had never had a return before and finally gave me an address. Cost me $35 to ship it back and a week after they received it. I called them to find out when I would be getting my refund. After spending over 45 minutes and three transfers on the phone explaining the same thing over and over he told me that I would get my refund in 3 to 5 days. It’s been five days now and I’m still waiting.
I’ve never had a worse experience with…
I’ve never had a worse experience with a company than I have with Ooma. Their phone service is awful from setup to everyday use.
The worst part came when our business was hacked through Ooma itself. Someone called them, gained access to our account, shut off our phone lines, rerouted our calls, and stole our patients. This went on for over a week before Ooma finally fixed it, causing serious damage to our business.
We filed formal complaints, which they said would be escalated to their legal department. After 10+ attempts to reach them by phone and email, we never got a single response. At this point, I honestly don’t believe their legal department even exists.
When we decided to cancel, they made it incredibly difficult. It took a 20-minute phone call just to cancel our service. Even worse, they refused to give us basic information about our account or what happened, making it impossible for us to file a proper complaint with the authorities.
Ooma’s security is terrible, their customer service is worse, and they take no responsibility when things go wrong. If you care about your business, stay far away from this company.
I have been looking for a home phone…
I have been looking for a home phone service that work my budget for me as a Canadian I found ooma I love my home phone service and great to have when my cell phone is charging and I can talk to people when I'm home . I highly recommend them to anyone in Canada seeking an affordable phone service that connect to your Internet 🛜
Terrible Experience – Dishonest and Unhelpful
Within the first four months, one of the phones I purchased started acting weird. I contacted customer support, and it was an absolute nightmare. The agents were unhelpful, kept transferring me between departments, and one even hung up on me mid-call.
I spent hours troubleshooting (started around 11 AM) before they finally agreed the phone needed to be replaced. I was told it would take 3–5 business days to receive a new one. When I asked if they could expedite the process, I was told by a manager that it wasn't possible — no flexibility, no care.
Out of frustration, I asked to cancel the line, only to be told there’s a $600 early termination fee, or I’d have to wait 8 more months to avoid it.
This company clearly cares more about locking people into contracts than offering quality support or service.
Avoid this company at all costs. Dishonest, greedy, and deeply disappointing.
If you need a replacement device, get ready for a nightmare
When the sales rep sold me on this service, I was told that the plan would include a maintenance plan to replace a device if it was not working. How has that worked out? When our cordless phone is having a "bad day" it will not receive calls (ring) or make outgoing calls. Per Ooma's instructions it has been rebooted a dozen times. The operating system in the phone has been updated 3 times. I was told that if I could verify the MAC address (serial number) of the phone that a replacement would be sent out. Now I am being told that we must again troubleshoot it and update the operating system AGAIN before they will send out a replacement.
I have been in business for 26 years so I can share with you what is happening here. While all but one of the individual reps I have spoken with have been perfectly pleasant, someone up the chain has told them that they must make it as difficult as possible for any customer to receive a replacement device. What does this mean to you as a potential Ooma customer? Be prepared to exhaust yourself if you need a device replaced. This weekend my business missed more than 20 phone calls. That is customers who are annoyed and staff who have to call these customers back and explain why they could not reach us.
If you are considering signing up with Ooma, their features and pricing are top notch. Whomever is in charge of the maintenance plan department? They have no clue what it means to offer customer service or to honor an agreement.
Update: After reading over the reviews here and elsewhere I see that this problem is much larger than just Ooma's maintenance plan. Looking back it is clear that they never had any intention of honoring the maintenance agreement. I'm canceling. Based on the cancellation issues I've seen I'm also going to be ready if Ooma thinks they can keep charging me after I cancel. I DO NOT SEE HOW this company has an A+ with the BBB or a PCMag Business Choice Seal on their site?
You can never login for invoices
You can never login for invoices. You keep getting turfed to the US side and login credentials are NEVER accepted
Completely corrupt do not do business with Ooma
Completely corrupt
when they ported my number from spectrum they added a ghost line and never removed it and started double charging me for the past five years they’ve admitted that they’ve done it, but they told me to go fly a kite and they refuse to refund me so I opened up a case with the FCC and FCC acknowledges That they need to do a refund, but Ooma doesn’t respond to the FCC
stay clear, extremely corrupt and by the way, their service is horrible. They have software glitches for the past five years that they have not been able to fix.
Go to Vonage
Please save yourself from hundred of hours of headaches and loss of money like I have. I wish somebody would’ve warned me. I’m out close to $1000.
Now I have to take them to small claims court
Ooma phone service is very poor
Ooma phone service is very poor. Calls rarely go through and are unclear when they do. This phone service couldn't even satisfy my 13 yo with no cell phone. He asked me not to bother with it. I would pass if I were you.
Harassment by sales
I was going to purchase until the sales guy called me 3 times in an hour. Emailed me 3 times and texted me even after I said to stop and I was going to purchase tomorrow. Borderlined harassment. Lost the sale.
Warning: Deceptive Marketing and Forced Upgrades
Ooma advertises their service as “free with only taxes and fees”, but this is misleading. After signing up, I was automatically enrolled into their premium service without clear consent. When I questioned the charges, I was met with high-pressure tactics and misleading explanations to keep me on the premium plan.
This feels deceptive because:
“Free” service still comes with hidden costs beyond just taxes.
The system opts you into premium, requiring you to notice and opt out instead.
Customer service downplays or denies the problem, leaving you stuck paying more than you agreed to.
I strongly caution anyone considering Ooma: read the fine print carefully, monitor your billing, and be prepared for aggressive upselling. In my opinion, this practice is not transparent and borders on predatory.
less than zero stars, awful experience
I had to call on 4 different occasions to cancel my service. Then 2 months after I canceled, they started taking my money by ACH. I had 2 different (and very rude) customer service reps tell me I consented to keep the service in exchange for 2 free months. Even though my number had been ported out months prior!!
Good thing I had email proof of cancellation to show my bank, and they gave me my money back. Terrible, awful experience!!
MY OOMA EXPERIENCE SINCE 2013
I began using Ooma in around 2013. During those early years all seemed to go just fine. I must add that I have been an Ooma "Premier" account user all of these years. Once every year I have to call & negotiate a lower price. The $136- is auto billed. Every year I have requested a $40- refund to apply to the $136 making my cost around $96-....Some years they have tried to decline the offer for credit, yet they state "We can only do this one time".
or "This is the last time we will honor this". I have friends that I have referred to Ooma & obtain a referral credit. Those have been nightmares! That was getting Ooma to pay me what was promised. That was around 2022. I would not give up until I was credited what I was promised. Finally, they did it.
There have been some very poor technical issues within the past year plus.
Try to picture this......I make an outgoing call from my Ooma phone. On my end when the number is called NOTHING HAPPENS. While at the same time the person I'm calling hears their phone ringing & My name on Caller ID & of course there's nobody there when they answer. I will sometimes have to re place the call again several times having the same result. My other friends using Ooma have the same issue. Imagine this.....The person I'm calling has been annoyed once maybe five times with their phone ringing & me not there. Many times by the time the call actually connects, the person is annoyed blaming me for constant rings over & over. I've alerted my friends about this "Ooma Quirk" but when it comes to calling a business or someone I don't know, they can become very angry, blaming the multiple calls on ME. I made an attempt to get Oomas "Support Tech Team" to assist. After dealing with them for nearly a full week, nothing was resolved. The reps attempted to blame it on my phone etc. I am a licensed engineer & know enough to realize that the problem is somehow within their network! Remember, this happens frequently with others that are Ooma referrals from ME. Be aware this is a random issue & is not constant, yet poor unreliable Ooma service. No doubt many of you reading this have experienced this very same issue.
HERE IS WHAT DISTURBS ME GREATLY:
The Ooma reviews of leaving Ooma only to be constantly billed AFTER canceling their service. This began happening somewhere over the past 10+ years. To read one horrible review after another sickens me. No doubt when I choose to cancel my Ooma service, I will be in the same boat that many of you have found yourself in. Then the former Ooma customer has to spend countless hours with their bank and/or The Better Business Bureau to prevent their money being stolen from this company. Yes, I have read the many nightmares good honest folks have had dealing with this shameful theft. Therefore, I would NEVER EVER recommend this deceitful company again. I feel so bad for ever having my friends engage with this company & their horrible antics. Because one day I too will become their next victim!
My advice is be very aware when cancelling your service & watch your bank statements carefully. Sadly there are some who have not noticed this Ooma billing after cancelling service many months or years.
BOTTOM LINE FROM ME A 13 YEAR CURRENT OOMA USER.
For your peace of mind do not go near them. I am trying to find another VOIP provider that is honest & ethical yet at the same time provides the same VOIP Services. I have a company in mind, but I have not yet contacted them. FYI, I tried "Magic Jack" some years back & I won't even delve into that saga here. In my opinion, they are not an option. Ill leave that there.
Final thought.....If you have been falsely billed by Ooma, talk with your bank & file a complaint with the BBB. Again, when I began with Ooma their reputation was clean & the service was endorsed by well known tech hosts on national radio stations.
My Best To All Who Have Been Abused By what is still called Ooma. Leaves me shaking my head. Thank you again for reading.
Save yourself the trouble!
Don't do it! Getting new office phones and choosing Ooma has been the biggest mistake I've made working in this office thus far. You never know when your phones will stop working, until you start receiving voice mails in your inbox. I have to reboot every phone in the office every Monday morning. A horrible use of my time, then they often still don't work. I spend a lot of time on hold with custom service so they can fix the phones from their end. It's very difficult to understand the customer service reps and the background noise only make that worse. Save yourself the trouble!
Run far far away
Run far far away! U definitely get what you pay for! I want to pull out my hair or choke someone when talking with customer service. My stress level goes through the roof! They have crappy reception, they are hard to understand and I'm always on the phone with them 30+ min and that's even if we don't get disconnected.
