Not as described and virtually no customer service

I bought a vintage chair for more than $2K. The delivery was repeatedly delayed by weeks. On the day of the delivery, it arrived 2 hours outside of the window. Because of that, I wasn't able to inspect the item in person right away. When I reported that my item wasn't described (scratches, stains, long-term damage that didn't happen during delivery), I received some automated, impersonal response on how they couldn't do anything to help and didn't claim any responsibility since it was outside the 24 hour window. I am now disputing via my credit card company. This isn't a white glove service and I wouldn't use it for any meaningful purchases.

Ugh, Just The Worst

Ugh, I wish I read all of these reviews before I ordered anything from this company. I bought an entertainment center and a pedestal table, both new and in boxes. I asked twice ahead of time if the delivery guys would unbox and assemble my furniture when delivered because I already had an issue with Wayfair's nonexistent "White Glove Delivery". I have it in writing that yes, my furniture would be assembled (surprise, surprise they don't have a customer service #, so all communication is via email or messaging on their site. Meanwhile, I've waited 2 weeks because I thought it wa s worth it to get furniture actually assembled when you got it rather than have 100 lbs boxes laying around. So they delivery guys arrive and guess what? They don't assemble furniture, sorry. I almost lost my cool, but remembered it's not their fault. So I end up tipping them each $40 because they lugged the stuff up to my apartment (although it was in the elevator, not up the stairs). I got into it with "Jaclyn" via email because I was really upset. They offered to have a "team" come back in a couple of days to assemble the furniture, but seriously, I don't trust their employees have the first clue how to do that. I told Jaclyn to just refund me their ridiculous delivery fee (2 pieces of furniture in boxes for $94 EACH).That should cover the Task Rabbit I booked for tomorrow. Please do NOT do business with this company. They are beyond shameful. So, all this and I haven't even seen the furniture yet to comment on the quality. Don't walk away from their site, RUN!

Worst furniture experience ever

I bought a used West Elm narrow console on AptDeco several weeks ago. The delivery person was not communicative. They eventually said to me in a text that they were "in the area" and that the piece was "25 lbs" and they were leaving it outside.

The piece is not 25 lbs. I tried to get it into my building and couldn't even get it past the door threshold, let alone up the stairs to my second-floor apartment. So the white glove service is a lie. Also, they severely damaged one of the doors. This is the worst furniture buying experience I have ever had. It seems affordable and nice in the beginning, but you're in for an extremely stressful experience, and what gets delivered may not even be a functional piece of furniture. They keep saying "use us, we're eco-friendly and divert waste!" but if they can't get a grip on their delivery aspects (especially with the steep fee!!!!!), who is going to use them over buying new?

BEWARE delivery fees (and terrible customer service)

BEWARE delivery fees. The user experience on their site does not make clear the cost of delivery. And delivery cost is high -- especially high if you're ordering an item from out of state. I was charged $200 for a very simple dining chair that I can (and did) carry up a slight of stairs with one hand.

Customer service is abysmal. Zero willingness to listen to the customer or acknowledge anything is confusing or could be improved on their website. No option to cancel once the delivery fee was disclosed. Moneyback guarantee does not apply to those of us who are faced with delivery fee sticker shock. They said they would communicate with the seller on my behalf to attempt to cancel the transaction, but the item was already in transit by the time they made this promise.

I understand this to be a platform that supposedly removes the sketchiness out of Craigslist transactions, but I'll take my changes with CL next time.

Sellers beware

On the positive: i sold the item i no longer wanted in my house. The buyer bought an item she couldn't find elsewhere. That's the good part.
On the negative: out of my $100 listed price, i got $52. That is nearly 50% going to the app. This is without any delivery because the buyer came to pick up, precisely to avoid fees on her end (she told me it would have been over $40). To be fair, the tiny print related to sales does say you will get UP to 75% of your listed price. Yes 52 is less than 75.
2nd negative: when providing payment instructions, there is a bunch of additional questions beyond banking info that are just outrageously invasive. They ask DOB, social sec and address. I skipped those as there is no way i am giving my social to a furniture selling app! Transaction worked so they definitely don't need those. Please guys, don't fall for this, this is huge id theft risk.
3rd negative: payment doesn't get into processing mode until buyer clicked a button to say they picked up the item. Luckily, my buyer was a nice lady, responding fast to my texts. She clicked that as soon as she got my text request, else my sale was forever hanging in limbo.
My conclusion: this is ripoff if you try to sell your items fairly. If it is just to get rid of something bulky and you don't care about what you get, maybe it's an option.

BUYER BEWARE

BUYER BEWARE. my dresser came damaged with the drawer handle hanging off and missing a screw. Even the apt deco delivery staff noticed immediately and took pictures.
you have 24 HOURS FROM TIME OF DELIVERY to report a discrepancy/damage, otherwise they will not honor any refunds or returns.
I tried emailing with pics after about a day or so (40hrs after delivery) and was told that they would not allow a return or even discount on original purchase price.
BE WARNED I think they know stuff is damaged and they don't want to have to give out refunds so they use this 24 hour rule to trap customers.

$300 delivery fee for a pendant light

$300 delivery fee for a pendant light. That’s not for installation either! It seems they force “white glove delivery” servic which means to place it inside my doorway instead of just outside the door, then they can call it white glove delivery and charge exhorbitant fees.

Delivery fees are expensive

Delivery fees are expensive, and the service is horrible.

Purchased a desk, paid an expensive delivery fee, and the shippers missed all of the appointments to deliver the desk and didn't give me anything more than an hour's notice they'd be in the area on workdays.

The company has taken no accountability. Reporting to the better business bureau for shoddy practices. They literally shouldn't be allowed to operate.

What a disaster

What a disaster. It took about 6 weeks to get the item I purchased because AptDeco had 3 different (almost was 4) shippers "pick up" the job and then after realizing the pay wasn't sufficient to complete the job they bailed. Finally I received the item and it is NOT at all as is described. Now I need to dispute and wait 7-10 business days for them to review the damage that I submitted. So, 6 weeks later, $3000 later and I have nothing but aggravation. AptDeco basically lists the item, a 3rd party picks up the listed item for delivery and then they delivery. I didn't realize that it was basically anyone with a pickup that was willing to drive - the guy actually asked me if there was anyone here to help him w/the item or if he needed to bring a second person for a 75" long 250lb piece of furniture. I could keep going but I'm just going to advise against using AptDeco. I was really hoping it was a cool way to get some authentic vintage pieces of furniture but it won't be a service that I look to in the future.

AptDeco Does not Disclose Ridiculous Delivery Fees

Found a discontinued side table from West Elm that matches the rest of my living room set. The cost was listed as $100 - I go to purchase the table and enter my credit card information. AFTER MY CREDIT IS CHARGED I receive a receipt for almost $400. The cost of their white glove delivery was NEVER included in the transaction was $260, along with a whole bunch of additional fees. I wrote the seller and the company exactly 30 seconds after placing my order and they would not cancel the order. This business is a total scam.

This is probably one of the worst…

This is probably one of the worst companies ever. They picked up furniture, ruined my walls by banging furniture against it. Despite them being insured, took so much effort to get reimbursed. Every week, I would email and get some form robotic response weeks later. Finally I called their insurance company directly and all was resolved.

STOLE MY MONEY no item ever delivered

I bought a coffee table and it never arrived. They require you to be home to accept the delivery but they won't deliver it! They keep changing delvery dates and times without letting me know and refuse to give me a refund. I keep being passed aroung between 4 people who aren't communicating. It's such a simple answer but I'm clearly dealing with imbeciles. I'd love to just pick it up myself! Horrible company that's basically an overcharged middleman for Facebook Marketplace. Such a Scam!

Beware of returns

Beware, if you sell an item and when the buyer rejects it when he receives it, you can either pay (a lot) to get it back or AptDeco will discard it for you. You have no rights, in return for high fees.

They don't care once 24 hrs have passed

I recently purchased a sofa bed from AptDeco. It appeared to match the photos on the listing, until 2 days later I pulled out the sofa bed part which revealed a massive stain on the mattress that was not shown on any photographs or stated in the description. When I contacted customer service, they explained that disputes can only be made within 24hrs of delivery. Obviously I wasn't aware of the problem until after this timeframe, so they were unwilling to resolve the issue in any way. The only thing they offered was to waive any fees if I want to resell the sofa bed. They didn't seem very forthcoming in penalizing the seller for omitting such a detail either. Be wary of this if you purchase from them.

AptDeco Fiasco - A detailed account of my horrible experience

While I used AptDeco a couple of times in the past with positive results, my last experience was highly disturbing, to say the least. It was upsetting and disappointing enough for me to proactively warn others of their subpar customer service and corporate management teams, and enough for me to contact one of their board members in an attempt to flag my concern surrounding the manner in which the broader AptDeco team manage grave customer issues and emergencies - ignore the matter and hopefully the issue will subside.

In short, I posted and quickly sold two beautiful marble dining tables on AptDeco. After the pick-up team missed the 3-7pm pick-up window on a Saturday afternoon, a team of two finally showed up at my apartment after 10pm that night. They showed up in an unmarked white vehicle (not the advertised orange AptDeco van) and while one of the delivery individuals was an AptDeco employee wearing the AptDeco orange shirt, the other individual was not, however accompanied the other as a helping friend. When I asked about this, they declined to provide the name of the helping friend and assured me it wasn't anything to be concerned with. This was the first red flag and set the tone for the remainder of the night.

The AptDeco experience resulted in 2 damaged, non-sellable marble tables, a large contingent of police officers called by my neighbours due to the chaos and noise created by the shattering tables, an injury sustained by the friend of the AptDeco employee as a result of a dropped table, and ultimately, a non-responsive AptDeco Customer Service and management team.

Multiple emails and calls (they do not provide a customer service number so I attempted to call their corporate offices) were extended the night of the event and for several days after. One Customer Service individual acknowledged my urgent query the day after the event however I experienced deafening silence by AptDeco's Customer Service team and co-founders in the days after. I went as far as emailing the co-founders directly, the broader AptDeco team and one of the board members begging that they please acknowledge my concerns and requests.

While their board member had the professionalism and decency to acknowledge my query and offer to look into it, the co-founders and Customer Service team hid behind the issue and never attempted to even acknowledge the atrocity they were accountable for and proactively ignoring. Their answer was to ignore the issue, hope the noise goes away and simply deposit a small sum of money in my bank account to partially cover the cost of the broken tables.

Given AptDeco was co-founded by an individual who was inspired to start the company on the back of a terrible experience with another NYC buying/selling company, I thought they would have acknowledged my request and addressed it in a more proactive manner. Instead, there was no acknowledgement, no discussion, no professionalism, no human empathy.

AptDeco's co-founders and management team have much to learn in terms of proper customer responses and crisis management, and I hope that my experience will serve as a text book case for future situations. I cannot in good conscience recommend use of AptDeco to anyone at all, however will give AptDeco one star for their positive sustainability impact.

AptDeco is a rip off. They picked up 2 night stands and never paid me for them despite repeated communication with their team via email, promises to call which never happened, entreaty for me to enter information they already had. Go sell you stuff elsewhere.
