Review of Virgin Money UK

Mindblowing service and efficiency

I recently received a shocking and scary Default Notice from Virigin Money. The letter was dated 12 August; it landed on my doormat on 26 August. It claimed that despite several letters I was behind on my personal loan - both these 'facts' were news to me. And it threatened to share my 'missed payments' with the credit ref people - I hadn't missed my payments.
I called Virgin and its Financial Care team was brilliant. The first person carefully checked my records and issued a complaint on my behalf.
I was transferred to a second person who looked at the arrangement I had in place and made suggestions as to possible ways forward - but proffered that the mistake appeared to be theirs. I couldn't believe the company was willing to even suggest liability let alone follow up on it. Octopus Energy and Thames Water take note please!
Three days later I received a callback. The complaints guy conceded that all was well at my end of things, and that Virgin should have sent me the default notice months before; hence they were backdating the notice for credit ref purposes. He also offered cash compensation for the miswording re: letters sent.
I believe that it's important to give credit where credit is due (pun intended). Virgin has been super efficient in this instance, both the staff and the systems in place. I am so grateful that I didn't have to waste hours of my life begging the company to step out from behind a faulty algorhythm. Strange to say that our interactions were courteous and very 'human' which has totally blown my mind. There's hope for us all...

Hello there, thanks so much for sharing your experience.

We truly appreciate your honesty and the time you've taken to reflect on what must have been a very upsetting situation.

Receiving a default notice in error is understandably distressing, and we're genuinely sorry for the worry and confusion it caused. That said, we're incredibly glad to hear that our Financial Care and Complaints teams handled things with care, professionalism, and a human touch. It means a lot to know that you felt heard, supported, and respected throughout the process.

We're committed to putting things right when they go wrong, and your feedback is a powerful reminder of how important that is. Thank you again for recognising the teams efforts- it really does make a difference.

Thanks, Virgin Money

Sophisticated scam setup

Avoid! As others have said, I bought a Christmas present and have just had £19 deducted from my account for some nonsense I didn’t order - replacement blades? Are you kidding? My grandson doesn’t even live with me so why would I need a subscription sent to me? Impossible to cancel and return. Where are the consumer watchdogs when you need them? In other walks of life this would be criminal!

Good service, efficient returns

Delivery took a little longer than expected and the sandals billed as correct size in the website were in fact HUGE. Sadly this meant returning the shoes for an extra £3.99 delivery. The returns service however was impressive and fast. Happy with the product.

Awful company. What's the scam?

This should have been a straightforward pension transfer. Countless calls to their embattled receptionist after follow-up emails and letters fail to arrive. You have to monitor them constantly, even then I am baffled as to how it is possible that the only email and letter that I ever received were exactly the same - telling me that I have missed the deadline. Worse, the posted letter arrived at the time of the deadline!!??! I am livid that I have been chasing this since the end of August, and I have still NEVER SEEN the fabled Who Am I? pack to progress my enquiry.
I am so disappointed and angry at the absolute waste of my time caused by WPS's ineptitude. I feel like I've been scammed. Why do the big companies insist on using this appallingly useless company? From the other reviews there is a definite pattern here.

Laughable returns policy

I bought a men's designer shirt in the sale for £90 but it didn't fit. I made a special trip back to Oxford St (I don't live close by) 11 days later and after much hunting around the shop floor, eventually found an assistant who could actually help me. But I was told that sale items only have a 7-day returns opportunity and then it's at Selfridges discretion if they return your cash. Apparently this information is in the small print on the receipt. So I am now doing what they should do - letting people know about their returns policy. The assistant said I can get more money back if I put the item on eBay. This is ‘customer service’. What a disgrace!

Suspicious waste of time

I have just wasted time going through the process of being offered a tasty 'quick quote' - yet after I filled in all of my further, personal information, suddenly 'restrictions from the underwriter means we can't insure you right now'. Whaaaat? No other explanation. Great concept but seems like a clever ruse to mine personal info. Disappointed as I found the site as a result of an alleged national newspaper article. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I'd still say: avoid.

Hi there,

Thanks so much for you interest in By Miles and very sorry to hear you weren't able to get a quote with us! I appreciate it does take time and effort to fill in a quote so am sorry you were disappointed.

We are new, so our underwriters have quite strict acceptance criteria at the moment, but as we grow we're continually working on improving the range of cover we can offer. I can assure you we're keen to be able to offer cover to as broad a range of drivers and cars as we possibly can.

If you would like to email your details to support@bymiles.co.uk, I'd be more than happy to look at the quote for you and give you a more detailed answer as to why we might not be able to insure you right now.

Kind regards,

Rio

Deliveroo customer service arrogant and aggressive

I understand that as so many of the reviews testify, it's easy for things to go wrong in the food delivery chain, but what I find unacceptable is the arrogance and aggressiveness of Deliveroo's customer service. Here's my story. I discovered by chance that I had been signed up for the Deliveroo Plus delivery subscription service. How? I don't know. They charged me £56 for delivery over a few months, taken from a card I hardly use and so don't keep track of. In that period I'd had about £22 worth of food, unaware of my membership. When I challenged them as to how this had come about, they basically said I'd had the option of enjoying their service and it was my fault if I didn't take advantage of it... They couldn't explain how I'd allegedly signed up for it, or why I had no emails or texts or paperwork of any kind to say that this was happening. We went back and forth for weeks, with me writing long emails of total disbelief and them trying to cover their backsides. I offered to pay the usual £2.50 delivery for any meals I'd ordered in this time, but I was damned if I was going to sit back and willy nilly pay for a service I had never had any interest in. It would never make financial sense as I simply don't use Deliveroo often enough to warrant it. I couldn't get past the pitbull customer service rep. How she sleeps at night I have no idea. It was an utter waste of my time. Bottom line: Deliveroo are a set of unscrupulous sheisters who see customers like myself as prey to be exploited. So stuff them. I'm now spending my money with Uber Eats and Just Eat instead. So far so good.

Review of Dyson UK

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

The last Dyson I'll ever buy

So many customer reviews are written after the first couple of uses, so I'm glad I am now in a position to describe a proper customer experience. I have been a happy Dyson user for many years, until I bought the V6 Fluffy+ a couple years ago. I have been a bit disappointed from day one but as I don't use it that often, I've kept the faith until now (I couldn't face the hassle). Anyway, this machine cost a fortune - a sign of quality, I thought - but within weeks, the paint started to scratch off the hose; weird, but cosmetic, right? Surely it couldn't be a sign of things to come! The hoover has never delivered what it promised - it can hardly keep a charge and has failed to ever clean my (mostly wood) floors downstairs in one go, as advertised - let alone the whole house, which is really not that big. I hate that I have to use a screwdriver or poke my fingers about in it to pull the dirt out to empty it - it's a disgusting design feature and speaks to the fact that the makers believe it's only the lowly cleaning ladies who'll have to deal with this so not to worry. Now the motor cuts out intermittently, so I can't use it, and the fabric strip that stops the brush head from scratching my floor has come away, so I'd have to find a way to reattach it. I thought I'd give the thing one more try before I bin it - but then the bottom opened by itself and emptied the contents over the rug I was trying (unsuccessfully) to clean - ‘user error’, no doubt. I am beyond disgusted with Dyson. The fact they have so many ads directing you to their support/repairs service is a clue - the products are crap. I had my last Dyson hoover for about 10 years; so this is a change for the worse. I would've expected even a cheapo brand to last longer than a couple years. My recommendation? Avoid. There's much better out there, for less.

Impeccable service

I wanted to buy a quality portable massage bed that wasn't too heavy for a small person like myself to lift - but more importantly would be delivered the next day. Even after calling the surprisingly helpful customer service line for advice and reassurance that the item would be delivered on time, I was still skeptical. I needn't have been. And my supersize client said the Tahiti Lagoon was more comfortable than his own bed! Happy! Happy! Happy!
