Terrible experience today 10/15/25 - over 3 hours on the phone and missed the deadline bc of LIES from turbo tax representatives. I switched to turbo tax from a private firm bc of promise of lower prices but they just kept increasing the fees and then give promo codes that don't work or are inaccurate. Calls are disconnected and they do not call back. Representatives are incompetent. Horrible experience - do not use!

This is the last year I am using Turbotax. Every year I have used them I have been surprised at filing to find that I have been signed up for extra services that I don't need or use. The price that is reflected at the end of using the site is frequently much higher (hundreds of dollars) than I expect it to be, and much higher than is reflected online. They are dishonest about their pricing, disrespectful in their customer service, and a problematic company. I asked a customer service rep what I was being charged for and she said "prices change." I understand that prices change, but prices should not change so dramatically as you are using the site. It's interesting how low the reviews are for turbotax.
The most frustrating idiotic software
The most frustrating idiotic software, filled with bugs. When online chatting with customer rep, chat gets dropped repeatedly. Person who reviewed my return gave me false sense of confidence saying everything looked good with no real depth of understanding or knowledge in my situation. I ended up making changes and finding an extra $8k of refund. Software asks the same questions endlessly. Goes in loops. So hard to figure out where you are and what you're doing. I was at the finish line, ready to e-file and it asked the same questions in a loop 5 plus times before chatgpt gave me a clue of the problem. Finally I realized I couldn't e-file because state of VA requires state ID for my wife I didn't have. But software didn't tell me why I couldn't get to e-file step, just kept telling me to review a section w/ no indication of a solution or even exact problem. Then once I got past this, it again re-routed me through additional review questions even though it previously told me numerous times that everything had passed. It would be nice if you could jump to the section that it's asking you questions about. But you just have to go through the wizard without a real understanding of where the questions are from or navigation to that area to see the full picture. So so so so frustrated these last couple days. My God. The software testing team needs a lot of help!!!!
Lost customer over $10. Principle.
I am over a 20 year customer here. Bought desktop version that came with $10 credit to use towards State filing fee. I filed an extension so I did not get to file until October. When I did file, Turbo Tax showed me my $10 credit and had the final amount at $15 but the final receipt did not actually give it to me. Called and spent an hour on the phone for them to finally tell me that the credit expired in April. Really? Good customer service would just pushed the $10 to me. Lost a long term customer over $10.
NOT EXPERTS AT ALL!
If possible, I would give them a ZERO! Horrible experience this year. I did my taxes with the very expensive full service and everything seemed fine. Then I got audited and since I'd paid for the protection I was able to resolve the issue with the audit service (NOT TTHE SAME AS TT), as a result I had to file an amendment with the state. IT HAS BEEN OVER TWO MONTHS, 4 DIFFERENT TAX EXPERTS, AS THEY CALL THEMSELVES, THEY ALL SAY THEY ARE STARTING THE AMENDMENT AND THEN THEY DISSAPEAR! They didn't disappear when charged my astronomically for doing the taxes! It these people cannot file an amendment then you should NOT TRUST them with your taxes! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!
You're Paying For No Guarantee of Actual Filing
After years of filing with TurboTax, I will now be taking them to court over unresolved issues that arose due to their negligence in filing my taxes properly. I will be switching to H&R Block to file my taxes going forward. They are deceitful and manipulative. I'm no longer surprised after their class action lawsuit a few years ago. Just don't do it.

Horrible experience this year - been using turbo tax for 10 + years will switch - have emailed and followed instructions on website for a refund. I accidently purchases a double subscription + due to I ternet issues - I provided order number and emailed twice through my account . After 22 years of being a premeir+business+Audit Defense customer I will be switching to H&R Block. It baffles me they would discontinue Itsdeductible without offering a replacement. H&R Block offers conversion from Turbotax and has a built in tool called DeductionPro. So its even better than Itsdeductible was because you dont have to download the data from Itsdeductible to Turbotax. Its built right into H&R Block software. Will be recommending others do the same.

Don't pay them a dime. The money you will "save" will cost you more when issues will start happening. Even if you will pay to have the protection, they will find a reason not to pay back. Want documentation for the chats or calls you had with them? Forget it. They don't want you to have so that you can't prove you were given wrong info.

The manipulative upselling techniques Intuit employed in TurboTax this year are shameful — leading people through dead end pathways designed to get them signed up for Credit Karma. Instead of immediate verification that you're taxes are filed, they now act like you have to sign up for Credit Karma to get verification for one of your most important business transactions. I received oddly delayed emails confirming my filing this year. Those used to be immediate. And no more texts verifying my filing. They obviously want you to worry about whether your filing went through and lead you to sign up for Credit Karma. They only leave you with a dead end web message saying to get updates, I had to subscribe. I called Turbotax and let them know my concern. The agent said "ok' and then hung up.
I expect to do my taxes and transparently and complete my filing with direct email and text notifications. That’s exactly how it worked in the past, but Intuit decided they wanted to make another buck. Nudge us to subscribe with a little uncertainty. I've been a strategic marketeer for 30 years. Rule one is that once you lose confidence in a company and realize they cannot be trusted, you cut them loose. Fast. That time has come for Turbotax.

The charged me 125 dollars to then tell me that I had to pay 70 more dollars to complete my taxes. I asked for a refund but since they took my payment the did not want to refund me what I originally paid which was 125. I have never had these issues with H&R Block. Save yourself a headache and money and just go with H&R Block.

TURBO TAX MADE A MISTAKE, IRS SENT ME A LETTER STATING I OWE 848+5.00 FOR ERROR ON CALCULATION IN COMPUTATIONAND OF TAABLE AMOUNT. I TRIED REPEATEDLY TO GET INTO MY ACCOUNT AND GAVE UP, THEN GAVE IT ONE MOE TRY AND FINALLY FOUND PAGE STATING THEY COULD HELP WITH PROBLEMS ETC. AND WHEN I WAS READY TO GO FROM THE ACCOUNT ASSOCIATE TO THE ACCOUNTANT I WAS TOLD TO SIGN UP FOR 5.00 (REFUNDABLE) BUT BEFORE ACTUALLY SENDING THAT AMOUNT I RELIZE THEY WERE ACTUALLY REQUESTING $60.00. (THE $5.00 AMOUNT AND 1STMONTHLY CHARGE OF 55.00 FOR I DON'T KNOW WHAT. WHEN I DIDN'T SEND THE REQUESTED AMOUNT THERE WAS NO MORE COMMUNICATION AND I DIDN'T GET ANY HELP WITH MY PROBLEM. i HAVE USED THEM BEFORE AND NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS BUT I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN. I MIGHT ADD, TURBOTAX HAS A STATEMENT ON BACK OF ELECTRONIC FILING FOR TAX FORM THAT INCLUDES A 100% GUARANTEED ACURATE CALUATIONS.
High Marks Until Underpayment of Taxes and I'm Owed Penalties and Interest!
Previously rated them high- 4 & 5 stars. Have used their service via CD distro and then online for over 30 years. Have had accurate tax preparation using self prep with Max protection or expert prep with Max depending on my needs for a given year. This year, I used expert prep backed by their Max protection as usual. I was flagged with an Underpayment in February of '25 for tax year 2022 and have struggled with their support ever since. Last week I thought I saw a light at the end of the tunnel. Their tax Expert "Gail" seemed helpful and knowledgeable fleshing out a course of action that made lots of sense, but I needed to load their 2022 software onto a PC or Mac. I am a Linux user so I had to cobble together a solution in order to move forward. "Gail" told me to call back in when I was able to install the software and give the answering tax Expert the case number and they would contact her. She would then call me back and we would continue moving toward resolving my issue. Today I called back prepared for the next steps.
Oops! New rabbit hole! Seems like their processes are full of them once something goes wrong, particularly when the Max guarantee is involved. It seems there is no way to contact "Gail" and I am sooooo peeved that I just hung up to write this review. If this did not involve my relationship with the IRS of the USA, I would be done with this issue and Intuit altogether at the close of this review.
I am extremely unhappy as this is in month six of my continuing saga and I guess at this point, I have to say "to be continued...".

Later the same day. Checking email I received one from the TurboTax Help Team stating that my case is now closed and asking me to complete their survey- which you best believe I did! Totally unbelievable and unacceptable customer service and support!
Only use TurboTax if you have the most current devices.
After over a decade with turbotax my time with them has come to an end. I changed my phone number and can no longer access my account. I could not receive a verification link that was sent to my old number and when I tried to update it, I got caught in a loop > scan QR code > redirects to new QR code.
The solution. None. My devices are too old. My question is, where was the QR code taking me? To verify my ID. Why can't they just email me that link? Or, why can't I verify myself by answering personal questions.

DO NOT FILE WITH THEM. All they do is lie when the IRS can easily disburse your funds if they would release them. I’ve heard horror stories about people waiting a whole year to see their own money. Everytime you call you get a different story. They try to pacify you to get you to wait longer. I will be taking legal action.
