Bought a single time top up, and then a month later another charge was taken from my account, and I found I couldn't access my account as it didn't recognise my email address which raised alarm bell... See more

Please note, that any accounts that opt-in to Auto Topup will have their subscription renewed automatically each month, and for security purposes you will need to log into your account in order to apply the credit to your mobile phone.
Our optional Auto Topup service allows users to automatically buy a topup every month, to help ensure they never run out of credit on their phone(s). The Auto Topup service can be started and paused or cancelled at any time simply by clicking a button in the user account area.

No end of faffing about.
Numerous attempts at topping up a family member's Tesco mobile.
Unsuccessful attempts despite confirmation screens.
Did NOT simplify top up process.
Had to try 3 times then resort to flaky chat.
Flaky chat gave guidance including vouchers, pin numbers and Tesco mobile's own phone top-up line which I had to call and manually type in SIXTEEN digit numbers to in order to claim the credit.
A) If I WANTED to top up by phone, I could have done it in the first place.
B) The whole object if the exercise was to top up online WITHOUT registering or downloading an app.
Now they have my email I foolishly gave them in the flaky chat, they have 'Created an account' for me which they will no doubt consider 'assumed consent' for data protection and peddle my details to all and sundry.
Very stressful.
Unnecessary (could have gone direct).
Harvester of personal data.
God knows what happened to the first 2 payments I made. Will write them off as lessons learned.

Like others, I used the top-up facility once (my partner paid for it) and did not want a subscription. But a month later another payment was taken out of my partner’s bank account. I went to the Onetopup website and used their contact system to tell them about this. To their credit, they got back to me within 24 hours, investigated the situation, and sorted a refund. All I had to do was provide a screenshot of my partner’s bank statement, showing the unwanted subscription payment. So although I was concerned after reading their reviews on here, they acted promptly with personal emails (instead of generic ‘Your enquiry is being dealt with’ messages).

Wish I hadn’t used this company and just went direct to Tesco. I haven’t been able to apply the voucher to the phone and did not realise there was going to be a processing fee. £23.78 wasted.

Fairly easy and straight forward for a non tech person like me

This company is a complete scam. They trick people into setting up automatic top ups without making it clear that they are enabling recurring payments. It looks like a normal one-off top up, but then they start taking money every month without permission.
They are taking advantage of people, including elderly and vulnerable customers who have no idea what they are agreeing to. Their website is deliberately misleading and it feels designed to catch people out. Customer support is useless and refuses to take responsibility.
Avoid this company at all costs. Use your mobile network’s official website instead. I have reported them to my bank and will be warning everyone I know about this.
