Hanwag Low Quality High Price

I bought a pair of expensive Hanwag shoes and after a couple of years of simple travel use (no heavy hiking, as these shoes have been used mostly for regular light travelling), the material on the upper has started to come apart. Various attempts to get feedback on this from the retailer (Bever Sport in NL) or from the manufacturer (Hanwag) left me going round in circles. I have many similar shoes from other companies and have never had such a negative experience with what is supposedly a good quality pair of shoes. Basically, Hanwag shoes are a rip off and I would not recommend them to anyone. Other brands with similar but much cheaper shoes are much better, with equal comfort and superior quality and durability.

Boots started leaking after 18 months…

I spent over £400 on a pair of Hanweg boots. They were very comfortable, but started to leak after 18 months. I applied Hanweg waterproofing spray and whilst this improved the situation the leaks continued. The shop I purchased them from were really helpful and returned them to Hanweg. Hanweg said they could not be repaired. And that was that. No explanation nor any offer of compensation or a discount off a replacement pair. I was left with no alternative but to purchase a new pair - from a different manufacturer.

First pair of boots failed after…

First pair of boots failed after 10months of light use, the replacement pair got returned the same day because when I tightened the laces a lace loop ripped out, the 3rd pair got returned because the rand and soles were cracked and peeling and the liner wasn't in straight.
Hanwag has quality materials, assembled with low attention to detail

Excellent comfort - poor quality

Excellent comfort, easy to wear.

Well, that’s about all good there is.

The quality of the boots are poor.

The soles just wear out in no time, we’re talking 3-4 months and the heals are flat like pancakes. No more grip.

I’ve had 8 pairs of Hanwag Lhasa II wide GTX and one pair of Lhasa II wide.

The problem has occurred on all of them and I’ve had Hanwag change soles several times at high cost.

5 out of 8 have also leaked, one or both. Wet feet :-(

I believe I’m done with Hanwag, I’ve just enjoyed the comfort so much I’ve kept hoping for better quality - but they are just too expensive in the long run.

I bought Hanwag Alta Bunion Lady GTX…

I bought Hanwag Alta Bunion Lady GTX boot less than 2 years ago. They were very comfortable at first. However the stitching on the eyelet to secure the lacing came apart. The welting separated from the boot causing them to leak snd my feet were sodden even in light dew. The sole wore through to the soft inner layer after light use for less than 2 years.
Customer services were entirely unhelpful, they will only deal with boots sold directly by them.
I will never buy anything from Hanwag again. Steer well clear of this brand

Tatra II GTX - My 6 months experience

I have a pair of Tatra II GTX and I love them. Used for 6 months here in Scotland, medium walks 2h to 4h on medium terrain (rocky paths, bogs), usually carrying a 5-8kg backpack.
My previous boots where Lowa Renegades. They were amazing but I wanted something a bit more technical after a walk on some frozen snow where the Renegades where bouncing off the snow (they were out of their comfort zone, no fault there)
I put the Tatra side-by-side with the Lowa Camino and I picked the former due to styling preference and the bunion option.
I think the Tatras:
- are totally waterproof
- have amazing traction (aggressive Vibram sole)
- are built like tanks, but still agile enough

On the down side:
- a bit heavy (but coming from the Renegades it's easy to say)
- the leather collar on the top of the inside tends to retain moist

If you experience squeaky leather vs leather friction, like I did, just add a very little vaseline and it will do the trick (thx to
Anders from Hanwag customer service team for the tip).
I'd recommend and buy again

Ladies Hanwag banks low

Hanwag banks low. Really disappointed with these expensive walking shoes. I've worn them just a handful of times mostly in dry weather. However, today was the first time in wet weather. They are not waterproof my feet and socks got completely saturated.
They are supposed to be waterproof.
My husband was wearing a much cheaper brand shoe and his feet remained dry. I know which brand I will be buying next time and it won't be Hanwag.

NOT waterproof

I bought a pair of Hanwag banks walking boots 2 months ago. I’ve worn them about 4 times. They’re really comfortable with excellent grip but in spite of the fact that they’re supposed to be Gortex waterproof I had soaking wet socks after walking in a light covering of snow. I was about to buy my wife the same boot. Certainly won’t do that now. It’s a real shame. Rubbish!

Han Wag boots mid sole disintegrated

Han Wag boots mid sole disintegrated, very little use, never happened with Lowa or any other boots I've ever worn.
They provide a resoling service but only through a dealer, not directly with the customer, nobody in Ireland that I tried wanted to know. Pure muck in my opinion and not worth the money. I've old army surplus boots still going strong after 40+ years but not these. Said online that crumbling mid soles like a stale biscuit is normal and not a product fault???
Bye bye Han wag. . .to the bin and good riddence

Non-Existent Customer Service

Dreadful Customer Service!!! BEWARE!!!!
I placed on order through Hanwag's own site for 2 items on 09/08/2022 and paid for a 3-5 day delivery!!!
I received an email with the invoice on 10/08/2022 to advise my order had shipped and I'd get a tracking number from the courier within a day.
No email form the courier has been received and no goods have been delivered despite Hanwag taking payment.
I emailed Hanwag 3 times to try and resolve this issue but on each occasion no one bothers to respond.
I'm now trying to resolve it myself through my bank to attempt to recover the payment.
Very poor indeed for such a reputable company!

2 Leaking pairs, and no money back!

My pair of expensive Hanwag tetra light was leaking after one month. I got a new pair. The second trip..leaking! Now they claimed it was wear that caused the leak. €240,- out the window!! My previous meindls lasted 15 years without a leak. I should have opted to have the soles replaced, because the rest of the shoe was still in good condition and would have lasted me another 10 years. Never Hanwag again!!

DO NOT BUY anything from HANWAG

DO NOT BUY anything from HANWAG. Hanwag sent me 2 same items although I ordered only one. They charged me twice 400 EUR. Nobody per their instructions is available to provide the return form which they are supposed to. NOBODY reachable by phone nor by email. I suppose this Company is bankrupt or in real financial trouble if it cannot be contacted. I will next go to my lawyer and sue the CEO. AGAIN, do not order anything! Hanwag seems not to be operational at all!!!!!

BEWARE changes to fit

I have been buying Hanwag Banks boots for 10 years. i did soi because the fit and quality were just great. BEWARE they have changed the fit and the design of the boot. Just wasted £200+ on boots that dont fit and feel more like wellies than a suooortive boot i can wear on long hikes. i wore them once so i cant return. no mention of changes in description of course.

Hanwag trapper top gtx , iv had most makes of boots over 38 years in the fields mountains etc.. the trapper gtx,s excell in slop for grip the soles are as agressive as they get and dig deeper than most big name boots . theyre as high as meindle dovre extremes but the harder soles are my favourites really comfy .and are really hard wearing two solid years of use in high and low country i will buy these again deffinately great fit high enough for most ditches and puddles .. although big high heavyish boots theyre a pleasure to walk in

I bought a pair of Hanwag boots in…

I bought a pair of Hanwag boots in January 2018 and used them for walking the dog on a daily basis. The sole of the boot was destroyed within 12 months Hanwag rejected a warranty claim because of excessive wear and tear. They should stipulate that their boots are for decoration and not serious wear.
