I have been dealt with the same £109.00 taken DD and no supply. Getting no where even with Barclays. I have now gone to my local MP. I have a response from them and she is taking this to parliament. This is my last resort.

Watchdog and Legal Advice are being pursued.

Like many others, I have been the subject of corporate fraud and a breach of the consumer rights act but this scam of an "Organisation" (using the term loosely).

They took the money, and after indemnity claims were made and processed, supplied "Evidence" against it, which Barclays refuse to disclose.

I have contacted both citizens advice, the insolvency company, my bank and got different answers. I am now pursuing legal advice for damages and undue stress caused.

I have also submitted this alongside the Trustpilot link to BBC Watchdog (what have we got to lose!) so to add traction, if you have been subject to this as well, add a review to explain the severity and wide spread of this fraudulent activity.

Same as below Ofgem website says…

Same as below Ofgem website says Northumbria ceased trading in July. My bank referred me to British Gas who said they supplied me during the time Northumbria billed me and took over directly from Zebra who ceased trading 3 November 2021. Switch didn't give DD details to British Gas so I now have £2K of bills built up with them. BG are asking me to set up a DD but I am honestly not that up for it given this experience. BG said Northumbria and Ofgem are 'working on it' and that I can't make a complaint to them. My bank is being difficult about covering this under direct debit guarantee as they say they need proof I have tried and failed to contact Northumbria etc etc first. They also say they wont report as fraud as I 'know' the supplier. Finally got hold of ofgem who say I should report the transaction as fraud as they definitely haven't been my supplier

Minus 1 star

Minus 1 star , like everyone else Northumbria via switch craft took £142.80.
I wonder if the two companies are working together on a massive fraud.
How can switch craft give my DD details to them and not be liable for the loss.
I'm waiting to hear from the bank .
I just [luckily] got in on the last day of the 120 day time period for raising a dispute
which I new nothing about, ah well fingers crossed . I think it's going to candles and wood burning from now on anyway.

Northumbria Energy take money without providing any service

If I was able to I would score zero points. This thieving company took a first direct debit payment of £117.60 from my account in April 2022 during a so called onboard from British Gas via the Switchcraft comparison service. Subsequently they didn’t onboard me and never refunded my direct debit payment. I managed initially to get a refund via my bank Barclays using the direct debit indemnity only to have the refund cancelled because Northumbria Energy disputed the claim. What rights do they have to my money when I never have or ever will be their customer? Barclays say they can’t do any more. The ombudsman can’t help until I have made a formal complaint and during this whole time I can’t get anyone to respond to my emails or speak to a human being. I’m a single parent to a toddler with additional needs and on a very low income. Northumbria Energy have literally stolen my money for nothing but a long winded line of stress that is now going on 5 months

Has anyone found a way to retrieve your money?

I'm told by my bank that NE challenged my Direct Debit indemnity claim (despite being insolvent, somehow) and therefore I'm not entitled to a refund.

Please make it make sense.

Oh and obviously they are a fraudulent company. Blame Switchcraft for not doing due diligence.

Badly let down by Switchcraft

Switchcraft recommended switching from British Gas to Northumbria Energy, which I went along with. Before being 'onboarded', Northumbria took one month's payment of over £400. Never was onboarded, contacted Northumbria who stated that they would refund the money. They never did and now they've gone bust. Energy Ombudsman claims to be unable to help. Extremely disappointed with Switchcraft, any marginal savings I've made over the few years I've used them have now turned into a big net loss. Problem compounded by the fact that while I was waiting for the switch, I did not accept British Gas' limited time offer for a new tariff that is no longer available.

SCAM

If you could give minus stars I would. Obvious scam - managed to get my money back directly from the bank for it to be taken out again by Northumbria. Now struggling to get my money back from anyone. Been advised to wait for the company to have an administrator before I can ask for my money back.

Breathtakingly Bad

If you set out to design an energy company with horrible customer service, opaque billing and just general incompetence all round, you
might get something approaching as bad as this lot. But you’d struggle.

SCAM

Why is there no option to give zero stars. Utter rubbish. Took 1 payment and never initiated the transfer from British Gas, so paying 2 suppliers. Now supposidely moving to Octupus, but Octupus have no record of my details anywhere. I blame switchcraft for not doing the due dilligence, and now out of pocket, contacting the bank and praying for my money back! FRAUD STAY AWAY

Same as everyone else

Same as everyone else. Switchcraft recommendation. Northumbria Energy never initiated switch but took money. Cancelled D/D to Northumbria so they only got one payment. Now told by my bank that indemnity claims fail if the company is in administration and money will be transferred to Octopus, I'm still with Shell Energy!

I too have been scammed by this awful excuse for a company

As others have said, I too have been scammed by this diabolical excuse for a company. The Government really needs to step in and ensure everyone gets reimbursed for money paid in advance. I now discover that they have no intention of taking on my energy supply yet they have not communicated this to me and, of course, have not refunded my payments. Tossers.

Scammers

Disappointed with Switchcraft for making me have to deal with these scammers when gas and electric has jumped up in price which is bad enough! As soon as I was advised by switchcraft that this company would be supplying me I get an email from them about setting up the direct debit..£164 which seemed really high but I set it up and told shell energy I will be changing providers and cancelled my direct debit with them! Well, clearly Northumbria Energy never took over as my provider but kept collecting the direct debits. Continual phone calls and eventually I called them demanding a full refund….told them to cancel the switch(which never began!) and told them I’d be advising my bank to investigate this company as I believe they are acting fraudulently! This is probably the only reason that I got a refund and my direct debit cancelled without too much trouble! If anyone is owed money get your bank to help as this is fraud!

After 2 months of trying to get my money back from these cowboys they have now sent me a email saying that i will not be getting a refund because they have been appointed as a supplier of last resort! this means Ofgem has chosen them as a replacement supplier for any energy supplier that has gone bankrupt! i don't believe that for one minute! avoid like the plague.
