Review summary

Based on reviews, created with AI

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers express widespread dissatisfaction with various aspects of the service. People are particularly unhappy with the difficulty in establishing contact, citing long wait times and unhelpful advice. Consumers also voice concerns about the ineffectiveness of the service in addressing fraud cases, with many claiming that reports are dismissed due to a perceived lack of viable lines of inquiry. The staff's performance and the organization's ethical standards are additional points of concern for reviewers. Furthermore, the location and accessibility of the service also contributed to the negative sentiment expressed by the reviewers.

Dismissed, victim blamed, harmed by fraud then harmed by Action Fraud.

Complete waste of time, not including the 30 minute wait time to speak to someone- Action Fraud failed or didn’t want to grasp the specifics of my complaint and dismissed it based on simplistic and incorrect assumption. ‘That’s not something we deal with’ seems to be a standard response.
They dismissed my emotional experience also, My anxiety and distress of being defrauded were invalidated, I fell prey to an Fruad then fell pray to the promise of Action Fraud. Double whammy. The fact that I eventually felt empowered to report it, only to be dismissed, is a secondary trauma. Victim blaming by Action Fraud. What a waste of Tax payers money. They need to be disbanded and a proper service put in place.
Do something productive or nothing at all. (They fall into the ‘do nothing at all category) don’t even deserve one star.

A totally useless organisation

I'd give zero rating if it were possible. A thorough waste of time. I spent time navigating the very slow and clunking reporting process to enter my details and account of the crime. Today, I received an email telling me the incident I reported wasn't a Police recordable crime. So, apparently, it's perfectly legal to hack into someone's shopping account and use their credit card details to fraudulently obtain goods. Plus, fine apparently for the scammer to then call me pretending to be my credit card company and try to obtain by fraudulent means the security code to purchase a high-value item. The email from Action Fraud made zero sense, it was splitting hairs and ignoring the seriousness of this type of crime and identity fraud. No wonder thousands do it, they know they can get away with it! Action Fraud is itself a fraudulent waste of public money- looking at the 1-star reviews here, it achieves NOTHING. An outrageous waste of resources. The Police service for non-emergency crimes these days is non-existent - no contact details available for any stations, and many branches are closed. It's clear that serving the public is not in any way a priority or aim. Contacting them was a total waste of time, I feel like Action Fraud is like a scam on the public, an excuse to do absolutely nothing! Strange though how many Police can be deployed to arrest old people for holding pro-Palestinian placards in a peaceful protest. We know what the State's real priorities are. We should all lobby our MPs to get rid of Non-Action Fraud.

Action fraud is a waste of your time…

Action fraud is a waste of your time and energy. They have no investigative powers , nor can they return your money.
I was a victim of an online airline ticket scam . I know the telephone numbers, have voice messages, call records, chats etc but they cant stop my money from being taken away. Action fraud will make elaborate report, give you a number and slowly you learn to live with the loss.
You just vent out your frustration with a hope that some government agency will protect you and your money, but it is hopeless.
Action fraud should publish statistics of number of cases they handled and their success rate.
I wonder why police cant set up traps and lure the scammers into them or pose as fake customers and catch them. We are waiting helplessly and praying that the scammers dont hit us. Few years ago I lost 1700 pounds in one second. I knew the name of account holder, account number , bank, branch everything. But under whatever laws that account is protected, and I couldn't recover my money.

The bad guys know very well that law in this country is weak and punishment if any is disproportionately less. They will rob you in broad daylight and you cant to a thing. Action fraud must be closed and a more robust, proactive police system should be brought in.

Slow and difficult to use

Slow. Difficult to use. I wasn’t able to report my Instagram account being cloned as this option did not exist. Chat is very slow. David the advisor left the chat before the conversation was finished, probably because the reporting system doesn’t work so he can’t give good advice. I reported using identity theft as he told me to, but the options I needed were not available. Then I was unable to file the report without putting a landline telephone number. I don’t have a landline. Surely there must be millions of us who don’t have a landline number? If this is you, you will also be unable to report ID theft this way.

Tried to sign up & as a guest but I couldn’t even get passed the profile as it wouldn’t accept No Landline number. There must be thousands of people without a landline these days.
I tried ringing again but just got stuck in a queue. No wonder these scammers carry on their crimes!!!!

Don't expect anything and you won't be disappointed

Action Fraud is basically a recording service introduced by the government to take some of the pressure off the police. NFIB also don't have investigative powers. The standard e mail that you will receive telling you that 'it has not been possible to identify a line of enquiry which a law enforcement agency in the UK could pursue' is very likely untrue. It certainly was in my case. A crime had been committed and I had details of the offender and the location of the property involved! When I challenged the e mail, I received a reply from someone (these e mails are not signed) saying 'we will be unable to provide you with further information concerning the decision made due to the sensitive nature of police work...'
What they are really saying is, we know you're a victim of crime and that there is sufficient evidence to arrest the offender but the police don't have sufficient (or properly trained) officers to investigate these offences. (The e mail stated that they receive 50,000 reports a month!)
Also, unless there is admissible, reliable and substantial evidence to ensure a realistic prospect of conviction then the Crown Prosecution Service will not even authorise an offender to be charged.
Basically, it all comes down to ££££, and in the meantime these criminals are laughing, with impunity, all the way to the bank!
