Avoid Guardsman Furniture Protection…
Avoid Guardsman Furniture Protection Plans offered at Ethan Allen – A Frustrating and Disappointing Experience.
I purchased a leather Melrose couch from Ethan Allen in Rochester, NY, for around $3,300, and added the $299 Guardsman Premier Gold Complete Service Plan, thinking it would provide peace of mind. Unfortunately, it turned into one of the most frustrating customer service experiences I’ve ever had.
After submitting a warranty claim, I waited six months without a response. When Guardsman finally acted, they sent a technician from New Jersey (to upstate New York!) who looked at the couch but said she didn’t have enough time to complete the repair. And then? Nothing. No follow-up. No resolution. Just silence.
Years later, the owner of the Ethan Allen store accused me of being a “problem customer” and casually mentioned that Guardsman had denied the claim. That’s hard to believe, considering they sent someone out to fix it, which wouldn’t have happened if the claim had actually been denied upfront.
I contacted Ethan Allen’s corporate office and received a polite but ineffective response—no real accountability from either company.
Bottom line: Guardsman appears to offer a comprehensive coverage plan, but in practice, they seem to look for any excuse or loophole to avoid fulfilling it. The customer service is slow, unresponsive, and ultimately unhelpful. The owner of the local Ethan Allen franchise finally replaced the cushion, but unfortunately, the dye lot was significantly different from the other cushions, rendering the couch unusable. If you’re shopping at Ethan Allen—or anywhere else that offers Guardsman protection—I strongly recommend you think twice before spending extra on their coverage. It’s not worth the hassle.
Scam Company
Bought sofas from furniture village in 2022 and took out Guardsmen policy. Sofas needed repair in 2023 due leather coating blistering. This was done, happened again in 2024 and was done. Less than a year later happened again. Technician came out, the claim portal said parts had been ordered and then shows claim closed. Phoned to be talked down to and said this is right. How can they not guarantee their repairs for a year? The policy runs to 2027 utterly pointless. Do not waste your money with this company.

We bought 5 yr FULL plan via Harvey Norman about a yr ago.
Cat went loose on 3 occasions and marked the sofa .
Coffee stain happened on one.
Bolts got loose on 2 recliners.
Cushions got dipped down.
Guardsman refuse to cover us for any!
Will have to complain to Ombustman and relating as a matter of principle.
Very disappointed.
I should have read the reviews here prior.
TWO Claims -- TWO Denials!!
Several years ago we bought a power sofa and love seat locally and were told we needed to buy the extended protection called Guardsman Protection Plan because it would cover anything that goes wrong for 6 years.
Its not been 6 years yet, and I've had 2 claims because of seating malfunctions. The last claim was submitted 2 months ago and the first one 2 years ago.
The first claim was denied because I filed the claim a couple of days too late! I was on a trip!
The 2nd claim was filed within 2 days of the damage showing up. I was assigned a repairman to come fix the damage. I was finally contacted 3 weeks later and an appointment was made 3 weeks later -- He didn't show! I took off work all day so I could be there as they required. He said he had car trouble and it got scheduled again for 3 weeks out.
He showed up late and I took off work again! He said he would order the part and be back to fix the sofa in less than a month.
I just got an email this morning from Guardsman. They are denying this claim too because it's taking too long to finish it.
This company is a total scam and I'm sure they never pay any claims at all.
Their service sucks too!
Do Not throw away your money on this fraud. I will be filing more than complaints against this outfit!
Gurardsman does not stand behind their policies
I purchased a Guardsman stain policy with my Ethan Allen couches. Unfortunately, my cat developed kidney problems and there is pee staining on the couches. I filled out Guardsman's ornerous paperwork and called them twice but they refuse to clean the couches.
Do not buy anything from Guardsman. They do not stand by their policies and will just tell you that whatever stain you have is outside the terms of the policy.
Shocking service!!!
Shocking service!!!
Paid so much for this to be messed around.
7 weeks ago I put in my claims & a technician finally turned up today , he left with doing absolutely nothing to repair our sofa!!
This company use delaying tactics & make contacting them extremely difficult & slow!!
Another complaint has gone in & if I don’t hear something quickly, I will be as loud as I can to spread how useless this company are & will be going to the ombudsman.
DONT WASTE YOUR TIME , MONEY OR PATIENCE BECAUSE THEY ARE INCOMPETENT!
Guardsman Protection Plans: A Consumer Trap
We purchased a reclining Ashley couch with a power reclining module. The store we purchased the couch from included a free Guardsman Furniture Care Warranty. I have the store receipt and the original copy of the Guardsman warranty that was issued. A year after we purchased, one of the controllers that operates the comfort features failed. Unfortunately, the store went out of business, but that has no bearing on the warranty. Needless to say, after many calls and emails, Guardsman refused to cover our issue. In fact, this is the email response from Guardsman...
"Good afternoon, we apologize for the frustration; however, it is clearly stated within the plan that when your retailer closes, we will offer a refund for the listed price of the plan. Since your invoice does not show a price paid for the plan, we are unable to refund you for the plan. We understand the frustration; however, we are unable to expedite the process. Our retailer relations team is attempting to reach out to your retailer to confirm closure or if they are able to order the parts needed. However, as previously stated, if your retailer has closed, we will be unable to repair or replace the furniture.

So wipe your "floor" with your Guardsman warranty. A shady company at best.

So you might as well wipe your floor with a Guardsman Warranty. A shady company at best.
Customer service at this company is…awful.
Customer service at this company is awful. If you file a claim, it will be months and still no help with your furniture. Sometimes they will transfer you to a non working number. Don't get this coverage be cause it's a sorry company.
If I could do zero stars I would
If I could do zero stars, I would. We purchased a new couch and the salesman talked up the insurance as though it would be great for a wide range of claims. Well, within about 8 months our couch started pilling, threads came loose, and generally just started falling a part. Something which was told to us would be "covered". It was not. Skip this insurance, it is a HUGE waste of money.
Havertys couch
Would give zero stars if I could. Filed a claim with them over 6 months ago, they have sent out 2 different technicians for them both to tell me the couch needs to just be completely replaced. They even sent an email stating they would not be able to perform a high quality repair but they are going to send another technician out to do it anyways. I have requested store credit and they just keep telling me a technician will come fix it. Ridiculously hard to get a hold of, their customer service hours are non existent, and your on hold for hours just to get hung up on with no call back. Havertys told me they don't use them anymore because of their poor service, wish I would have known that before I spent the money on their plan.
I purchased this insurance from…bad service!!!
I purchased this insurance from Haverty’s for every piece of furniture I bought for our new home. I have been waiting over 6 months now for them to fix my reclining love seat. I was also denied service for a rug and my adjustable bed frame. If you are buying furniture, and you are offed insurance ask which company they use. If it is Guardsman, then do not take it. They are a rip off company!!!

Our electronics broke and claim was denied. We have a sectional with chairs that won’t recline. Canceling our warranty is not an easy process which requires writing a letter to a Post Office Box. They can’t do it over the phone.
Never Again!!!!
Wasted money on warranty
Turned in a claim on a duo couch and loveseat. Stains, and padding literally fell out of cushions. Claim denied. Said it was not covered under the plan. I will never get a warranty from this shady company again. Just wasted money. And I am telling everyone I know about my experience with them. I've actually thought about putting a very large sign on my trailer and driving around furniture stores....there is a sign in my front yard now..

1 STAR ONLY BECAUSE ZERO ISN’T AN OPTION. THIS SAMSUNG FRIDGE COST ME OVER $2,000 AND HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST MISTAKE I HAVE EVER MADE. THREE MASSIVE FAILURES IN LESS THAN 3 MONTHS — FIRST A LEAK, THEN BROKEN SEALS, AND NOW A DEAD EVAPORATOR. I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT A WORKING FRIDGE FOR OVER A MONTH, AND THE LAST THREE MONTHS HAVE BEEN NOTHING BUT CONSTANT REPAIRS BACK TO BACK.
I HAVE CALLED OVER AND OVER TRYING TO REACH THE SUPERVISOR “LOUIS” (OR “LUIS”) AND HE NEVER CALLS BACK. I SPOKE WITH SOMEONE NAMED “TANIA” WHO WAS ABSOLUTELY USELESS AND DID NOTHING TO HELP. THIS “WARRANTY” IS A TOTAL SCAM — NOTHING BUT EMPTY PROMISES, WASTED TIME, AND ENDLESS STRESS.
TO ANYONE READING THIS: DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON GUARDMAN WARRANTY YOU WILL GET HORRIBLE SERVICE, AND A WARRANTY THAT IS WORTHLESS. LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE BEFORE IT COSTS YOU THOUSANDS LIKE IT DID ME.
DELAY DELAY DELAY
DELAY DELAY DELAY. Useless hopeless scam. Waste of money. Avoid
