DKV es una organización horrible e incomprensible. Apenas hablan inglés. Sí, puedes llamar a la línea en inglés, pero no te pueden ayudar o te transfieren sin pedirlo a compañeros españoles. Realmente, una compañía desastrosa. Hay que buscar un poco, pero hay seguros médicos mucho mejores, en inglés o en alemán.
Y para cancelar… también un drama. No recibes ninguna confirmación de la cancelación. ¡Quieren llamarte! Yo quiero una confirmación… ¿por qué llamar? ¡Si todo se puede hacer en español!

DKV is a terrible and incomprehensible organization. They hardly speak any English. Yes, you can call the English helpline, but they can’t help you or they transfer you without asking to Spanish colleagues. A truly disastrous company. Just look around — there are much better health insurers, in English or German.
And cancelling… just as bad. You don’t get any confirmation of your cancellation. They want to call you! I just want a confirmation… why call? Everything can be done in Spanish anyway!

Es gibt viel bessere Krankenversicherungen – einfach auf Englisch oder Deutsch.
Und das Kündigen… ebenfalls ein Drama. Man bekommt keine Bestätigung der Kündigung. Sie wollen dich anrufen! Ich will eine Bestätigung… warum anrufen? Das geht doch alles auf Spanisch!

Ja, je kunt een Engelstalige lijn bellen, maar daar kunnen ze je niet helpen of ze verbinden je ongevraagd door naar Spaanse collega's. Echt een rampzalige club. Even zoeken, maar er zijn betere zorgverzekeringen — gewoon in het Engels of Duits.
En opzeggen… ook dramatisch. Je krijgt geen bevestiging van je opzegging. Ze willen je bellen! Ik wil een bevestiging… waarom bellen? Dat gaat toch gewoon in het Spaans!

Didn't receive insurance cards or any information on which doctors, clinics or hospitals we could use until AFTER having the insurance in force for 6 months, AFTER my husband had a heart attack, AFTER they denied the claim because we went to an out of network provider. 2+ years later, they still haven't paid the hospital bill, despite being ordered to pay it by the Galician health care system.

Have a health insurance policy with them that includes travel insurance, they refused to payout on a claim and took almost 3 months to process.
They requested the same information several times and I had many different people dealing with the claim.
Very poor service.

DKV missed sold the policy to us for our visa in spain, I are not allowed to cancel it and we are now paying for 2 policy , I wrote a complaint email but no one contacted us

Went through the DKV app for a consultation, advised what test I needed and was told to find and call a local centre to book myself in. I found a centre, where nobody spoke English, which was OK with my limited Spanish, but exemplified that DKV lies when they say they used providers that speak English. Left my number twice, they said they'd call back to book. Tried whatsapp to contact the centre through the official channels, they responded with 'ask us tomorrow', and I did, a few days later followed up again as no response. Still no response. Called DKV and all they said was it depends on the centre how good they are and i have to keep trying, or try a different centre (which would be 1 hr away as opposed to 10 mins). They take your money and then no responsibility with their approved provider or anything. The insurance is absolutely not worth the paper it's written on!

Re my husband Stephen Corrigan. After taking the famedic professional policy. I contacted Dkv to inform them that I was being admitted to hospital October 2024, I was advised to just go to the hospital and everything would be sorted later. February 2025 I received a letter from the hospital requesting an authorisation letter from my health insurance. On contacting Dkv I was informed that they do not cover hospital stays. Their website states they cover trauma, general nursing and physio. I have since my initial hospital stay had 2 more hospital stays and an amputation of my lower leg. I have contacted Dkv on numerous occassions via email and letter and only receive generic replies that do not explain anything. I recently enquired about the 20 free physio sessions as I attend my local hospital for physio twice a week , I was given a list of Dkv clinics none of them local to myself, and the list did not include my local hospital. I am now being informed by Dkv that I should have attended one of their clinics. I didn't know they had clinics and referencing my first phone call to Dkv I was never informed to go to one of their clinics. I am now in the spanish healthcare system and I wish I had never got involved with this company, and I would have put no stars if that option had been available.
I have been waiting for an authorisation for a very needed medical test for 4 months. I have been talking to the insurance on the phone probably 100 times, send over 100 emails and even went to their office, trying to find someone to help me. Every week they give me a new excuse why they are not authorising my procedure. Mind you this is a standard medical procedure, nothing expensive or crazy, it was prescribed from a specialist doctor working at the DKV clinic. When I was crying at the doctors office because of pure frustration, a nurse finally told me that the insurance will not authorise any procedures since I have only been insured with them for around 5 months and they will make it so difficult until I give up. I am out of words how useless this insurance is, better off just paying for medical things yourself because they will literally leave you to die. A few more things: A. their clinic doctors are usually horrible, they want you out of their office asap and instead of listening or trying to find the cause they prescribe heavy drugs. B. They tell you you are insured abroad for emergencies but when you are abroad, no one takes your Medicard and you are forced to pay upfront and DKV refuses to refund you. When you ask DKV directly how you can go to the doctor abroad, since you are insured apparently, they tell you they can’t help you.
I have so many stories I don’t even know where to start. Will definitely not continue my policy, I have never had a worse insurance in Europe.

The Medico I see is on the DKV Panel and visits and consultations proceed smoothly.
He is multi-lingual and a fluid English Speaker.
He has attended to me a couple of times.
The Problem with DKV is if one needs further treatment. Getting authorisation is not easy. 'They will get back to me as soon as possible.'
This might be OK for Brits on NHS but it doesn't suit me who has been used to superb service and care by Private Medical Practitioners.

Our first experience with using DKV:
We got an appointment with a doctor, they were great. The doctor gave us a referal.
Then you have to 'request an authorization', which seems simple - it just asked for the referal number.
But then they sent us a long form which looks like the doctor is supposed to fill it out.
When I spoke to the in app chat they weren't able to clarify who is supposed to fill it out, or if I'm supposed to book another appointment with the doctor to ask them to do it. Then they ended the chat with a template reply saying they don't handle this.

Absolutely horrendous company, the app is not effective, emails go unanswered, phone calls are impossible.
My husband needs a lump removed, a relatively easy procedure which was first diagnosed in mid November, like other reviewers we have been given nothing but the run around, getting permission for tests has been a nightmare, the final straw come this week when after an hour's journey to meet the surgeon, after booking in and waiting half an hour, 2minutes before his appointment my husband got a text message to go to the desk only to be told his appointment has been cancelled because the hospital no longer dealt with DKV, we have heard this a number of times from numerous people appointments being cancelled because hospitals are dropping DKV what on earth can that be about, my guess is payment issues
I would thoroughly advise you give DKV a serve

I would give this insurance company 0 stars if I could. My experience has been terrible - constantly receiving wrong or incomplete information, and even having the information I shared questioned. I’m left worrying about what would happen if I ever get really sick, as it’s unclear if they would actually pay for anything. This lack of trust and reliability is extremely concerning.
I have since spoken to DKV, and unfortunately, the farce and poor treatment continue. Their approach to dealing with clients remains unacceptable and deeply concerning.

More delays
After 2 months of attempting to get an approval for a test (which is advertised on the website as covered) from a clinic (which is on their mobile app as in network). I am told (after 2 months of questions and medical reports) that the clinic is out of network.
It's just a game. They have no interest or ability to approve this test. The claims department is a joke. If you have paid in to DKV for years do not think that you actually have any real insurance cover. They will frustrate you.
I choose DKV as they are one of the companies accepted for the Non Lucrative Visa.
We have had nothing but problems with them and we are only 6 months in!
The latest is following emergency admission for bleeding, the doctor wants to do a biopsy to test for cancer.
The appointment has had to be delayed because DKV won’t give authorisation without a fully detailed letter from the doctor, despite me sending them the urgences results and all information about those appointments.
I am now looking to cancel as find another insurance company!

DO NOT SIGN AN INSURANCE CONTRACT WITH DKV.
Here’s the reasons:
1. You cannot go to whatever doctor you want. They use an app where you can find doctors who are affiliated with them (just a few are affiliated). If you go to see another doctor, they won’t give you a refund. That means if you have a doctor at 2 minutes from your home, it is very likely he is not affiliated with DKV and that you will have to take your car to see another doctor far from home.
2. If you have an urgency (like I had a Saturday morning), it is very unlikely that the doctors on the app will be opened a Saturday or will have a place for you. So if you have any urgency and have to go to a doctor, you won’t get a refund because you’ll have to see a non affiliated doctor.
3. If you want to cancel, good luck. They make you wait the last moment, without telling you exactly what you need to do to cancel your insurance, in order for you to wait too long and lost your opportunity to cancel. Plus, you have to insist to cancel it. Plus, they will try to charge you again for the next year (it is what’s happening to me right now).
4. Their app doesn’t work properly. You cannot book online appointments, even if they say you can do so.
5. Their support is sh*t. Don’t expect any help from their support.
6. They are going to increase your next payment by 20% !! (I paid 850€ the first year, and the next year, they charged me 1050€)

I had been paying for 3 years when I needed them most that found a fault in my initial declaration and refused to pay. Their inflexibility in understanding my reason for the paperwork which agents sell to you only to get the policy and don’t check the fine print was disconcerting. Furthermore I couldn’t cancel the policy after finding out that I’m not insured or get a refund.

DKV terminated the contract unilaterally, without explanation and without prior notice, 3 months before the expiration of the current contract! I found out about this when, after spending an hour of time, I was able to call the support service, where they told me in terrible English and in rude form "We had decided to terminate the contract!!!" How can it be ?!!! The most interesting thing is that this happened during the authorization of the necessary RMI scan, due to suspected prostate cancer...They was not giving this authorization for 2 months, delayed the time, asked for additional analyses, bureaucracy tricks and so on. I lost very precious time ! Thus, they actually endanger not only my health, but also my life! Totally unprofessional, unethical and inhumane towards their clients ! They are not protecting your health - in this case they threaten your health and leave you in danger !
