Very disappointed, dissatisfied, taken advantage of
Following a near-fatal accident in late 2021 and a long, complex recovery process involving significant cognitive rehabilitation, I have worked tirelessly to restore balance to every aspect of my life, which, of course, includes my finances.
In this context, I sought out credit-building tools to help repair and rebuild my credit profile, and that search ultimately led me to Spring Financial.
I initially joined Spring Financial through a high-pressure sales experience.
After a lengthy phone call with EasyFinancial regarding a small personal loan intended solely for credit-building purposes, I was abruptly transferred to Spring Financial.
The agent I was connected with employed aggressive and coercive tactics, and made it extremely difficult to pause or reconsider.
(One can only imagine how little Spring Financial compensates their agents, that they feel compelled to resort to such pressure in order to earn commission and a livable wage).
Despite my serious reservations, I agreed to enroll in the Foundation program, under the impression it would offer the credit bureau reporting necessary to support my recovery.
Regrettably, two months into the program, no reporting had been made to either Equifax or TransUnion, which is a failure that fundamentally undermines the program’s stated purpose.
Compounding this disappointment is the excessive $80/month cost, which is the highest I have encountered among credit-building services (which is hardly justified given the absence of results or meaningful support).
When I encountered a payment issue caused by a banking error a few days ago, I was charged an additional $30 fee that the company refused to waive, even as a courtesy.
My attempts to seek clarification or assistance were met with impersonal automated systems and long wait times via chat, rather than direct, human support.
The GOEASY platform, through which the program is managed, is outdated, unintuitive, and lacks the polish one would expect from a financial service of this cost.
However, I would be remiss if I didn’t recognize a singularly positive experience amidst all of this: my interaction with a representative named Angel (very fitting!).
She listened with patience, empathy, and care, and allowed me to fully articulate the context of my concerns, including the deeply personal challenges that brought me to this point.
Angel took immediate, concrete action to help me, and in doing so, offered the first moment of genuine support I had received from the organization.
Her professionalism and compassion stood in stark contrast to the otherwise transactional and mechanical tone of the service.
While I am sincerely grateful for Angel’s help, her exceptional service only highlights the systemic shortcomings of the Foundation program.
Between the lack of credit reporting, excessive fees, poor customer service, and an inferior user experience, I can no longer justify remaining enrolled.
Being a proud Canadian 🇨🇦 🍁I always prefer using Canadian (owned) services, but sadly I do not recommend this service to others (especially not to those who, like me, are navigating complex personal or financial recovery).
Luckly, much more transparent, affordable, and effective credit-building options do exist, and they do so without exploiting vulnerability or relying on pressure-based tactics.
