Appalling attitude of security staff, hostile, abusive and obstructive
Huge queues, poorly managed and clearly incredibly disorganised with disaffected workers and very slow systems. But worst of all by far were the security staff. Nowhere to be seen at first then when asked for help they advocated one thing then screamed at passengers for doing precisely what they said. Bullying and aggressive in the extreme. They then colluded to deliberately hold up people who were running late and actually took pleasure in it. One even looked at his watch smiling until the time the person said their flight was closing actually closed. They also said that the scanner hadn’t scanned something and that the whole thing had to start at the beginning again. One poor woman was just out of a hospital visit with a family member and was clearly distraught. There was also a very definite racist element with appalling treatment of people of colour. What a shame that this is the last impression for people leaving Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland should be wanting to encourage business and tourism and make travel smooth and straightforward as possible.Shame on them for inhumane and abusive behaviour with none of the characteristic kindness and humanity that NI is renown for. I will be sure never to fly there again (which is a shame because the Hertz rental team are lovely and EasyJet were also very good). What a national disgrace. And I see from previous review that I am certainly not the only one with this view.
Every year same old problems
Every year same old problems. You would think they would sort it out. Stand for an hour waiting on luggage. Unbelievable
Does management read these reviews and do they care?
it just seems that no matter how many complaints are raised the standards still remain so poor. Waited again for luggage to come off flight yesterday - it took over 50 minutes in the middle of the day. No staff about to provide support or explanation. Passengers who required special assistance left sitting all that time in wheelchairs - disgraceful. Is anyone in management listening and doing anything or is it only about the money generated from overpriced fares, car parking and retail outlets
Airport security are worst I’ve…
Airport security are worst I’ve experienced in any airport, didn’t explain took my shoes and left me standing on a black mat waiting for over five minutes before someone came to do a scan of my body and feet. Over the top, obnoxious and rude. Never again will I use this airport!
Nightmare getting baggage - so disorganised!
We landed at 1.30am on Sunday morning. It took 10 minutes to get through passport control, which wasn't too bad. The worst bit was it then took ONE HOUR for the baggage to come a matter of feet from the plane to baggage reclaim and another half hour of starting and stopping before we actually got our cases. Also this was after we were changed from one conveyor belt to another and there was only one flight landed in front of us! We did not arrive at our car at McCauslands until 3.30am - 2 hours is totally unacceptable! Definitely not an international airport!
Overzealous Security Person
On the 22 August my Husband who is 82 and my Daughter and Grandson Jamie and myself were returning from a Holiday in Ballymena . My Daughter and Myself were in wheelchairs and Jamie who is 14 and has special needs was wearing a Sunflower Lanyard around his neck after walking through the scanners he was subjected to an interrogation by a young overzealous security person ,Jamie was terrified he took his tissue out of his pocket for this person to swab it ,they also checked his hand luggage which contained an ipad and charger . It was just the opposite at Birmingham Airport where we were treated with courtesy . My Husband is from Ireland but we have decided never to travel through Belfast INT again .

Appalling staff member at Belfast international parking
We had done prepaid parking for our trip to Paris as we were only going for 3 nights I advised my husband that we should do short term parking?? Right? Wrong we entered the car park with no problem but when we went to exit we got a staggering ask for £140 stg!! We nearly dropped. Rang the bell for assistance and here’s where it all went surreal we got berated by a staff member who called us ignorant and said we were basically stupid!! We got a further lecture on our ignorance leading us to the situation now!! He did have the authority to let us go this time, but if he did let us out we were not to make the same ignorant mistake again!! We did get out holding our temper and tongues until the barrier left but such a rude obnoxious staff member i hope he doesn’t remain in the position for long!!
Fantastic Special Assistance Belfast Airport
We requested special assistance
Baggage nightmare
Arrived at 1.20am no bags until near 3am joke. Kids crying adults exhausted no where to sit horrible end to a holiday. Bags damaged after being thrown around by ground staff.
Terrible airport
Not much of an airport. Hardly any seats. Even the cafes and bars were crowded.
Hell hole
Hell hole, ridiculous staff who make everything difficult and miles to walk, like purgatory.
Over an hour for baggage reclaim
Over an hour for baggage reclaim. Food in departures is overpriced lukewarm garbage.
Grubby Shithole
Grubby. Worst airport I have been through, bar small local town airports in America. Parking is £90 per week. Well over 1000+ spaces with the car park full. That 90k a week or more. Its unstaffed and and half tarmacked. Fences are rusted and old. Has no smoking area causing people to smoke in the toilets. They are stinking and smell of smoke due to the lack of smoking facilities. Although it's had a part revamp it's clear its still a 1970s shithole underneath. People are clearly skimming all the profits from this main airport for this country and reinvesting as little as possible.
Worst airport
I recently traveled through Belfast International Airport and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience.
From the start, the bag drop process was frustrating — long queues and indifferent staff. I asked if I could have my boarding passes printed (I had four on my phone) to make things easier as I’m heavily pregnant, but was bluntly told, “No, just use your phone.” This made security more complicated and stressful.
Although security queues weren’t too long, the lane setup was confusing — more like a maze — which led to people skipping sections just to avoid unnecessary walking. Staff began shouting at passengers, sarcastically telling us to “get your steps up,” which felt extremely rude and unprofessional, especially considering that many people were clearly struggling. As someone heavily pregnant, I found the lack of consideration and support appalling.
The airport itself was uncomfortably hot with no air conditioning. It was overcrowded, dirty, and had nowhere near enough seating for the number of passengers. I waited over 20 minutes to use the women’s toilets, and the disabled toilet wouldn’t open even after pressing the buzzer — with no staff around to help.
Staff working in food outlets seemed overwhelmed and were dealing with a lot of frustration from customers, which isn’t fair on them. The gate number wasn’t announced until just 20 minutes before departure, which again made things very difficult for me physically. When we got to the gate, the boarding process felt rushed and chaotic — we were herded through with no patience or care.
The walk to the aircraft was extremely long and, in my condition, almost unbearable. There was no one around to ask for assistance, and I was in severe pain by the time I boarded.
Overall, this was one of the most stressful airport experiences I’ve had. For an international airport, the facilities, cleanliness, and basic customer service are well below standard. I sincerely hope changes are made — especially to support passengers with additional needs or mobility issues.
Security are a joke
Security are a joke. Ignorance must be in the job description. Totally disrespectful to all making any holiday or trip get off to the worst start. Would prefer any other airports over these incompetent beings. A little pleasantness goes a long way.
Belfast international kitchen cafe
Arrived at their kitchen cafe, 30mins waiting for food (although the sign says 15 mins), only one person waiting on and she was using robot to deliver. Absolute chaos, dirty dishes. Tables full of used plates, cups, etc. no one cleaning up This place should be shut down
A disgrace of an airport
A disgrace of an airport. Queues for bag drop out into the car park, no travellators, just endless steps & long walks, no tunnels to embark or disembark aircraft & the have to wait HOURS on your luggage!
Complete rip off prices in shops, no staff to be seen, dirty toilets. Sack the GM & get a new architect to design a more accessible airport. It’s the 21st century!
Airport information is 500m from the…
Airport information is 500m from the exit which is NOT ideal. Public bus info screen lists all destinations as Belfast dispite there being multiple routes to get there. Corridors are all very blind sighted, who designed the latest layout!?!
Luggage reclaim needs work
Waited for over an hour and a half on our luggage to find the cases were all soaking wet meaning the bags had obviously sitting outside the whole time . Those who are loading and unloading need to get their act together. Other airports with 30 belts have cases out in no time. Tried to speak to staff who were standing beside us didn’t want to know. They said there is nothing they could do. I tried to call customer services but no joy either. This meant I was late for an onward engagement. Disgraceful.
