Changed for the Worst

I used AAA for years and had a good experience, but as the years went on the experience worsened. I became angry with AAA after they wanted to charge me for the 3rd or 4th visit in a year, but the reason I needed so many is that they would come to fix my battery and would say they could fix it but then the same issue happened a few hours later. I eventually canceled my membership. At that time, they would tow for free up to 20 or 30 miles.

They sent me an offer to renew for $57 a year and a free household member. My car had a flat tire, so I thought it would be worth it to renew so I could tow my car to the shop and I figured it's helpful to have. When I looked into it, they had changed the terms and only offered 5 miles free towing. This was shorter than what I needed, so I figured I would sign up for the monthly plus membership. I signed up and called to get my car towed. The woman stated that because I just signed up it would be an extra $65 unless I waited until midnight. My appointment is for tomorrow, so I said fine, I'll pay, even though I already paid for the full month.

Later in the phone call, she stated that I would only have 5 miles of towing because they make you wait a full 7 days to access plus member benefits EVEN THOUGH YOU PAY FOR IT. I was pissed and told her to cancel the request because that's ridiculous and not worth the cost. I'm so dissapointed in how greedy this company has become. It makes no sense that you pay for a service that they do not provide. They need to offer a discount for the first month because you can't even use the service you're paying for. Not worth it at all.

Unreliable service in a time of need

My wife's truck broke down yet we were able to make it home. I called to arrange a tow in the morning to bring my truck to our mechanic. We verified our home address, the address of the auto shop, the time and best contact last night. I called this morning as time seemed to be passing, only to be told that the claim was not completed. This would be the second issue in which AAA has failed us regarding a service we are paying for. I will not be using this service going forward.

Abandoned by AAA when I needed them.

I got a flat about 15 miles from any kind of service. I put on a spare and it was very low on air. I needed some air in the spare. I called AAA. They told me it would be an hour for service to arrive. After waiting an hour, AAA called and told me there would be no service available this day. I told them again of my dire situation. I am 70 years old with a flat 15 miles away from a town on a seldom used road. I told them I had been a member for 13 years and have paid them over a thousand dollars during my membership. The person told me I was on my own and to have a good day and hung up. Can't begin to express how disappointed, frustrated and angry I was. Needless to say I won't be a member after this and warn anyone thinking of becoming a member, not to.

I had just renewed my membership 2 days…

I had just renewed my membership 2 days prior to calling due to a dead battery. The guy shows up and asks me how long it has been since I started my car. I told him it had been about a month since it is a second car but the battery was from 2024. He said they wouldn't cover replacement as it had been a month since I drove it. NOWHERE does it state that policy anywhere on my battery receipt which I had purchased FROM AAA. Also, when I talked to customer service, they said they wouldn't cover it because I was living in another state when I purchased the battery EVEN though I had the receipt. The guy on the phone was RUDE and took so much time just to tell me he wouldn't help me and also that I would not be eligible for a refund on my membership as it had been over 24 hours since I had purchased it. I have had AAA for over 20 years but this is the LAST year I will have it. I turned off auto-renew as this company is a ripoff.

After 47 years, I finally left AAA.

I have been with AAA since the day I started driving a car back in 1978. That is 47 years. Today I left. The final blow was my last roadside assistance where my tire blew out on the freeway. The guy who came to assist said he didn't have the equipment to change the tire. When I asked him if he could tow the car instead he told me to call AAA right there on the side of the road and ask them if he could tow my car (he didn't know). After a long wait on the phone some kid from AAA answered but she had no clue what the procedure was or what my options were. She had no idea if they guy could tow my car and had no reaction when I told her that the guy didn't know how to change the tire. It is a shame what happened to this once great company. I can't in good conscience allow AAA to be the service that may have to assist my wife someday on a roadside incident. So today I went to my favorite Artificial Intelligence online chat site and asked for the best alternatives to AAA based on customer reviews. I took the top option that the AI chat listed. I will never go back to AAA again. They abandoned their customers and they abandoned their company. They are now nothing more than a sad ship of fools.

I had been a member of AAA for probably 50 years. I didn’t realize that I didn’t renew when it expired and I had a flat tire. I renewed it the day I had the flat. I called for roadside assistance and was told, sorry, because I renew same day as the incident they would charge me $125. I said to the person I spoke to that I thought I had renewed because I’ve always renewed over the last 50 years. They would make no exceptions. Just very upsetting. Totally unnecessary to put me in a position with no recourse. Bad customer service considering my past enrollment in AAA . I told him to cancel my payment and he said fine. They couldn’t care less

Don’t use Be aware

I purchased this insurance through an agent less than a year ago in July I was offered a better deal through another company so like many companies J had felt with for insurance I thought I was on a month to month plan and decided I would just cancel and move to the other company. I was surprised when I did so as I called to cancel my policy that shouldn’t have been paid till 8/2/25 (they had already sent the debit in causing me to have to stop payment on that submission because they couldn’t)on 8/1/25 when the new policy with the other company would be valid. I took all the necessary steps to do so and was hit with fees on 8/26/25( I finally received a letter from them informing me I owed 485.00 but not an explanation of what for ect…) the letter was dated 8/16/25 so it took a whole 10 days to receive and during that time frame on 8/19/25(approximately I don’t have the exact date now without the paperwork in front of me) I received a call out of Santa Ana California treating if I didn’t pay the 485 to which I wasn’t aware of till that point was owed I would be turned into collections. I called that Monday and had my mother go down and pay the fee at the local branch in a town 100 miles away to just be done and avoid further threatening from the company. I had to pay a membership which was a crazy amount and did no help for someone in a rule town because the closest mechanic was over 10 miles away which is all they covered with basic for membership. On 8/28/25 I sent a certified letter requesting the membership they kept sending information for be canceled it cancels on 10/1/25. I also sent a certified letter requesting an itemized statement of charges that resulted in me owing the company 485 as of 9/26/25 I still have not received a response back from the company. I have spoke with others who have this company and have been told if they choose not to renew their membership the company might not provide insurance again to them at the end of that year. also another I know because they could not provide a odometer reading( you are required to do this for a discount for this company) they would not be able to insure a vehicle that they use for towing items to disposal sight 1-5 times a year unless they could say it had been driven 12,000 miles in the last year( odometer stopped the person can’t find their last odometer reading and the odometer is digital). Another person I know personally has this company and has been through the same with them charging them for leaving the company. Personally I would stay away from this company at all cost I had to learn the hard way. I can not speak to their homeowners as I had that with another company at that time and should have stayed with that company.

I had AAA insurance in CT. When I moved to MA, I figured I would just change addresses because I had no complaints. However, MA is different from any state I have lived in (five, including CT). Brendan Gross failed to communicate the MA-specific paperwork/details and did not enter my correct correspondence information. As a result, I was dropped by the insurance company without any notice, as they had the wrong correspondence information. I am getting rid of all AAA memberships.

Disappointed!

The towing company AAA wanted me to use was around two hours away which turn in three + hours. They also said that I couldn't ride with the driver and would have to call an Uber. I lost patience and began calling random towing services through google. The furthest competitor was 45 minutes away. I chose the one that was 20 minutes away. The customer service was perfect. I won't give the name for obvious reasons. But the driver told me that he gets lots of work because of AAA's long wait times. And that AAA customers lose patience. This company said that the driver only had room for one. But if there were additional passengers. He could call a family member near by to help out. Thats customer service for you.
