Needs improvements to quality
I purchased my Intu 4-way Form tap in August 2021.
First of all, let me say that although I have ultimately been disappointed with my tap I have always received good service from all at Intu Taps.
Today it finally went in the bin, and I won’t be getting another. Here’s why:
1. It’s important to realise that this is NOT a ‘boiling water’ tap as they are often marketed as, but a very hot water tap. 97 to 98 degrees max. Instant hot water is very useful in the kitchen, but I believe that a cup of tea needs to be brewed with boiling water and this tap cannot provide that so don’t junk your kettle!
2. The tap spits droplets of very hot water so you need to take care.
3. It’s easy to forget that the outlet pipe still contains very hot water after use which must be flushed out before allowing it near your hands. Too easy to scald.
4. It leaks a small amount of water every time it’s turned off and the heater reheats.
5. Intu recommend changing the filter every six months which at £39 is expensive.
6. The tank is not well enough insulated and I feel a lot of energy is being wasted in lost heat.
7. The first problem after just a week was a leaking tap necessitating a replacement. Intu provided an upgraded tap promptly and without a problem. However, the re installation of it was awkward and time consuming as the tank and the plumbing had to be removed, modified and refitted.
8. Next fault was a failure of the display on the heater unit. Again, Intu were helpful although I had to remove and package up the faulty unit and return it prior to an upgraded replacement being supplied. More plumbing to remove/ refit and associated disruption.
9. About 6 months ago and out of warranty the flow rate became less and less, and I noticed water leaking from the base of the heater. I removed and dismantled it, to find a ruptured plastic expansion vessel. £50 for a replacement from Intu. More disruption to kitchen.
10. All OK for another few months until another water leak. This time found to be from a sensor in the base of the heater tank which proved impossible to remove and re-seal, so that was the last straw. I haven’t even considered installing a new tank. I’m done with it.
To summarise: It’s not a bad tap and the company are always helpful, but I feel the product, especially the heater tank, should have had more development before being placed on sale. As a lifelong engineer I found the internals not really robust enough to withstand years of trouble-free domestic use. I continue to use the tap as a normal 3 way tap but with a larger and more efficient filtration system that lasts for a year and costs less than £20.
There are other hot water/boiling water taps on the market and I am not sure if they are better or worse than this one. My daughter has a Quooker tap which is purported to be an actual boiling water tap but the heater in that has recently failed also.
