Very poor service from HomeAway
A very difficult company to deal with. Hard to find contact numbers or email where you can actually discuss your problem. The app is useless. The property and owner was fine. No problem at all with that.
HomeAway take your payment and security deposit a month in advance, which also includes a large commission that the owner never sees. Then, even when the owner refunds your damage deposit in full almost immediately, it still takes weeks to receive it from HomeAway. In fact, at the time of writing and in spite of "promises" from HomeAway customer support I have still not received it after 17 days.
They trot out the excuse about it taking 'up to a week' after they have refunded the amount before it appears in your account. What rubbish! Banking transfers take minutes these days as we all know. They are using the deposits from numerous bookings and hanging on to them as long as they can to boost their cash flow. It seems to me to be a very fragile business model that needs to use the security deposits of customers in order to trade and I doubt it is sustainable. I cannot possibly recommend this company and I urge all other prospective customers, both owners and users to think carefully before using them.
