Been a customer since 2020. Multiple bikes. I've never claimed in the 33 years I've owned bikes. It was a good choice when I first used them, but it's gradually declined and feels more like the generic, white-label insurance firm that they actually are. Mackenzie Hodgson are part of Atlanta Insurance, which is then part of the faceless Markerstudy Group. The Mackenzie Hodgson logo seems to be a fairly convincing branding exercise, delivered by Carole Nash (also owned by Atlanta).
That said, why the 1-star review? This year, we moved out of London. I kinda expected the price to drop a little, especially as I'd just received a letter saying they were removing leathers and helmet cover as standard. The price actually went up by 6%. Ok, not the end of the world. I had a renewal letter ready but was out of the country on the renewal date itself. Only by 2 days. I phoned to take up the new policy thinking "they're on the side of bikers, so I'll have a chat". Wrong, the price increased by 42.65%! The reason? The sentence I got was pretty much "You should have called 2 days ago. You are no longer classed as a loyal customer so the renewal price doesn't apply." I literally laughed.
Loyalty works both ways. As I said, it's just generic insurance portal so no point getting emotional about a "computer says no" approach to customer service. I simply went with Carole Nash, who were cheaper and technically administer Mackenzie Hodgson insurance anyway. It seems I was just paying over the odds for the name and poor service. Lesson learned.
Having checked the Google reviews, MH is averages 1.9 stars and Atlanta Insurance tracks lower at 1.5. Seems about right.
I look forward to the auto reply bot reacting to this review with a generic "Thank you for reaching out and sharing your experience with us" reply...

As I didn't want to renew with my last insurance company and came across Mackenzie and Hodgson as they were cheaper got all sorted online sent me paperwork through the post i thought great all sorted, 9 months later I sold the bike and had a newer model which I did call them and explained, it cost me £93 for the change over only having 3 months left on my cover which the guy said on the phone, and also said I'd get my renewal quote 3 weeks before the date it renews never got my renewal quote so I rang and asked and they said I couldn't insure with them with no explanation.........if you want to be let down by all means insure with them....but stay well clear of these absolute bunch of 🤡🤡🤡🤡

Having taken out insurance with this company, I cancelled midway due to selling my motorbike. I called and stated I no longer needed the insurance, theh told me it would be cancelled. 3 month later I get a renewal email. Turns out they have been charging me ever since, on calling them they state they have no record of me cancelling and that they don't know why "my guess is as good as theirs". Absolute admin clowns, wouldn't use them, they cant get the basics right, let alone trusting them with insurance for you and your bikes!
Zero star rating if it would let me. Guy on the phone was unhelpful.
What's the betting they still try and renew my policy?? 🤡🤡🤡

Very good service for buying and renewal insurance but cannot give 5* only because never used for claims... hopefully won't have to...

Been with this company for awhile, now never again, cannot even get on their site to complain.I have paid for breakdown cover always, when I needed it was told my policy had been transferred to another company and my emergency breakdown number did not apply(01737 334431) beware if you had this number, was told that the RAC now does it, got in touch with the RAC and was told by them they do not do motorcycles, ended up paying over £187 to get my bike picked up and taken home. Their phone service is appalling, it gets you in a loop with AXA, it would be very nice to have a direct phone line to Mackenzie Hodgson to complain, which is impossible, now I understand why, it would be very nice to be reimbursed for the amount I had to pay a company to get me and the bike home. I will take out another policy on my bike straight away with another company as I will never go with this company again, at the age of 79 and being stuck at the side of the road for 5 hours is not funny.

I had an easy experience generally with Mackenzie Hodgson, inc a good quote, pleasant staff and straightforward online insurance process. But two things weren’t so great.
First, they are a broker not the underwriter. While not a big issue it does mean that the name taking the money from your bank bears no resemblance to the insurer. Not unusual amongst insurers.
Second, the system to stop auto-renewal. While they have three ways to do this (call, online chat or online form) only the call function is straightforward. The online chat button does not appear on their website from a mobile phone. The online form would be great, but the headers for each section are in the same font colour as the background (both black), meaning it isn’t clear what to write in each box (I highlighted and copied where I imagined the text was and pasted it into notes to see what each header said). Once completed and submitted, the form disappears with just a thank you line, nothing to confirm your policy is cancelled (at time of writing I haven’t received an email either) so you don’t know if it is cancelled or not. Very frustrating.

I had an accident in the Isle Of man in June 2024.
MY son reported this for me as i was hospitalised.
Subsequent follow ups turned into a nightmare, where calling my insurance company i had to call Ageas as well ... many many times, including arranging with Douglas Police and Ageas to get my motorcycle picked up which took hours of calls from my wife.son and myself.
6-8 weeks later my bike got collected.
I was also tols to call 4th Dimension to start legal proceedings against the other party.
2 weeks later i was still in hospital and they called me to advise thay cannot cover me as it was the Isle of man which is classed as international.
I went through to the complaints team who emailed 4th dimension and c/c in a solicitor in the Isle of man thay cam liase with to start proceedings.
I never heard back from tghem at all.
Despite constant calls to all involved.
I had to take on another company to do this for me that take 25%, which is omgoing still and may taje a while.
At one point i was told i need to talk to Rac insurance as they provide legal cover.
Our calls to them were batted away advising us thay do not provide this cover.
I have been in contact with the complaints team who emailed Rac in October and i still have not had a reply from them.
My cover clearly states legal cover in the Isle of man is included in my policy.
This company hasd been most unhelpful, when i really needed assistance, was unwell in hospital and told i had to ring Ageas and 4th Dimension direct.
Insurance by bikers for bikers ( i don't think so)
