have recently returned from India having joined The Great Indian Rail journey leaving UK 2 November and returning 18 November. I I have recently returned from India…was expecting India to be a shock to the system but I saw sights I never thought possible.
The holiday was overall very enjoyable and our guide Vivek was kindness itself.
On the 4th day of the tour we should have travelled by Ajmer Shatabdi Express but we went by coach and the change was not mentioned. The holiday is full on without much opportunity to relax. I would have liked to have been warned that the pace of the tour is suited to energetic travellers. The Itinerary gave a brief description of what was to happen each day but no mention of the very early starts, long journeys and the number of steps at railway stations. Difficult for the three passengers using walking sticks.
One thing that blighted the tour was the Delhi Smog. We learned that the smog is present every year at this time, when the rice growers burn their stubble. Why then does Titan offer the tour at this time of year knowing what they do and charge a considerable amount more than they charge earlier in the year! This is not a cheap holiday but I am left with the feeling that we should have been given more idea of what to expect both climate wise and the overall pace of the holiday.
My friend’s Asthma was aggravated by the smog and she ended up in hospital for two days which was scary for her and me and it was touch and go whether she would be allowed to take the journey home. I must praise Vivek for his kindness and help to my friend and me during a difficult and rather frightening time. He was amazing unlike the local guide requesting a tip as we went through assistance at the airport especially when most of us had used their local currency.

In the beginning I was very impressed by their kindness and helpfulness and they have been all the way through the process. One thing that bothered me was that often the emails about progress were somewhat vague. Of course they do not know how long each application takes but I would ask them to provide more of a time line and remember that applicants do not have the knowledge that they do and are bound to be anxious. So I would ask them now to review the wording of some emails. Nevertheless I’ll use them again and recommend my friends to do so

It would have been good to have coffee and tea facilities in our room especially as nothing available during the day two of which we endured very bad weather.

I and a friend booked a river cruise on 30/8. It was not acknowledged for 4 days. Due to unforeseen circumstances we knew virtually straight away that one of us would not be able to travel so we called Tui who didn’t care. Their response was you will still have to pay the full deposit. They did not however acknowledge our cancellation and continued to bombard us with unwanted emails telling us how excited we must be and only 208 days to go. Not once have they replied to my emails, neither do they answer their phone within an acceptable time. So we had a booking for just a few days and it cost us £600. The only time I have had a response was the 28 October when I requested a formal cancellation confirmation having paid the remainder of the deposit. I know the law on holidays booked on line or telephone but why is it so when anything else bought under distance selling can be cancelled within 14 days. Good money for a few days work. One can challenge the amount of cancellation fee charged only if they are unable to sell your holiday. I don’t think that will happen!

Initially it went very well but then I was asked to collect my car 2 days earlier than previously arranged. I called 1st Central but it can't be done and I was advised to start again then cancel the one for which I had paid so was put through to sales who quoted me £360 more because I was not doing it it on line! So I went on line but could not match the premium I had been offered 12 hours before. I really do not understand
