Not good benefit for preventive health care

I use AXA HEALTH as a company benefit, which should help me expediting preventive care. Almost always AXA asks me to seek a GP referral for simple things like regular health check up or check ups based on personal history that a GP would not make a difference. The process is wrong and puts me off using. I am cancelling this benefit for next year.

The product is great

The product is great. Well wrapped and protected, shipped in a timely fashion. The instruction although intended to be simple, do lead to some confusion, but we have managed to assemble it properly. Better pictures and details will help assembly in a quicker time.

This paint is amazing

This paint is amazing! Our recently bought flat looks so different. I just wish I have read the returns policy prior opening the plastic bags covering the tins, as I have order three extra tins and I will not need them.

Good experience. Long lead times for out of stock products

The process of ordering and payment and subsequent follow up was great. One of the products that we have purchased was out of stock and although was correctly advertised, nothing stated the product could be available 4 months later. Cancellation and refund were suggested if needed. We decided to wait.

Review of Karikuy Tours

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

2D/1N Sunrise Tour with Sacred Valley

My partner and I have booked a 2D/1N Sunrise Tour including Sacred Valley with Karikuy company. To be perfectly frankly with all of you, I do know not from where to start to describe the bad experience that we have had and the poor service given to us. Due to the amount of details, I will therefore describe the good and bad points as follows:
DAY 1
‘Goods’:
- the supervisor guide (Oscar) has come to our hotel in the day before to explain the details of the tour and to give us all the tickets required. The explanation was thoroughly and helpful.
- Stop in Mirador de Taray for a brief explanation. Nice view;
- The tour guide kindly explained where was the train station;
- Nice train journey;
- Someone from the staff of the hotel was at the Machu Picchu pueblo station to pick us up;
- The hotel Tierra Viva was nice and clean and the staff very helpful;
‘Bads’:
- The picking up from the hotel was on time (8:30am) but we have waited 30min on the cusco main plaza to gather everyone;
- First stop was 30min later in a random market on the side of the road on the way to Pisac. No points of interest worth of being mentioned - TOURIST TRAP.
- Poor audio quality inside the van did not allow all of us to understand the few explanations given by the guide tour. Furthermore the whole tour was done in Spanish, and the guide did not asked even once if everyone could understand;
- In Pisac archeologic site we barely have had time for ourselves. Who wanted to go to the washrooms wouldn’t listen the explanation or even go to the top of the Pisac ruins. In addition, although the guide was in rush all the time, in the very end he managed to find some time to flirt with two local girls (for around 10min);
- In Pisac town (bear in mind we went there on a Tuesday when the famous tradicional market happens - as advertised in the company website), we were forced to stop in front of a semi precious stones shop and no explanation was given why the stop in that location. We spend there 30min and all our time flew. Making impossible to see the tradicional market. Clearly they were from the beginning trying to sell us what the partners of the company wanted... as we say TOURIST TRAP!!!
- The buffet in Urubamba was poor (bear in mind Peruvian food its great) and the drinks were paid separately. However in the offer description it is mentioned that the lunch is included. It is also mentioned that you will have lunch “with the beautiful scenery surrounding you”... well my friends, we stopped in middle of abandon properties and the lunch was in a rather awful location..,
- In Ollantaytambo, we have left our bags in a “safe local place” recommended by the guide. “Leave here everyone does it”. He just forgot to mentioned that service is also paid (even if it just 3 soles per rucksack - the atitude is wrong);
- On the top of the ruins, lovely place. The amount of tourist was incredible... perhaps due to that once again the tour guide explanations were poor. However, we could manage to hear another guide explanation with extensive archeological knowledge of the ruins. Well above of the quality of our guide. 10min later and our guide left us since we wouldn’t continue the tour around the sacred valley. We will be heading Machu Picchu on that night and the guide will be returning to Cusco.

Note 1: I am fluent in Portuguese, Spanish and English. Therefore the guide explanations were poor not due to the language itself but the lack of knowledge shown.
Note 2: This tour only includes Pisac and Ollantaytambo archeological sites. This tour doesn’t include the ‘Condors in a protected area’, the ruins of Moray and the Salineras de Maras. A full day tour was done by 2 American friends which did not spend time in non archeological related shops (tourist traps) and have completed the day at the same time than us, ready for a few beers in Ollantaytambo.

DAY 2
‘Goods’
- The Machu Picchu complex it’s beautiful and hiking the mountain however challenging is an amazing experience;
- Vistadome train was a nice experience;
- No other points worth of mentioning....
‘Bads’
- In the night before at 11pm in the hotel, an awful guide (Liz) with the wrong atitude came to ‘tell’ us how the tour would happen. She mentioned that at 6.30am we would need to be at the main plaza and that at 6.35 the guide and everyone would be heading to the shuttles stop. Please bear in mind that the sunrise in Machu Picchu in early April is around 5.50am. So bye bye sunrise!!!!
- In the next day, circa 6.00am and with the sun up we headed to the main plaza. The guide arrived at 6.40am without any apologies. 5min later he realised that some people did not have the tickets for the shuttle and that all of us needed to wait for it. Bear in mind at that time and however there are shuttles for 30 persons every 5min, there was around 500 persons lining in a long queue. Making even later the time to enter in the complex. At this time, we make a fast and a good decision: we wouldn’t continue with this circus that this company called sunrise tour.
- In the queue, and well ahead of the rest of our tour companions, the guide Liz came to ‘tell’ us again that we had to wait for them. To complicate things, she strongly believed that we were 4 persons and it was said in the night before (by her) that we were 2. Perhaps due to another 2 persons have taken the same route than us of quitting with this circus. She was disrespectful and didn’t acknowledged her bad management of the group.
- At 7.30am we were at the entrance of the complex and without anyone to explain us all historical and archeological details. This proven to be a rather different experience from what we have expected..

All these situations were explained back in Cusco to the guide supervisor from the very first day. He understood our complains and requested the company to give us back the money of the first day. In the next day he came to the hotel to give us back 80$ of a total amount of 1030$ spend in this unprofessional guide tour.
This was taken by us as a joke.
If you like to spend money wisely, please consider to use another tour company instead of this one.

Reply from Karikuy Tours

Hi Tiago, thank you for traveling with us and sharing your experience. We apologize for any inconveniences you had on your tour as we did not receive your complaint directly or formally via our guides and end of tour review we can only now reply. Below is a summary response to your complaints.

To begin we try our best to be as puntual as possible for our tour departures. Unfortunately when it is a group tour we have to wait for all travelers in order to depart. In rare occasion not all travelers are punctual or ready in time and this delays the start of the tour. The full tour however is always given and no corners are cut there.

There are points along the route of the tour where locals sell their crafts, these are normally next to scenic stops with vistas. I would not call them tourist traps specifically, just a place where locals found opportune to sell their items, but they are so travelers can take pictures and stretch their legs.

Our guides are bilingual, all guides in Cusco are required by law to have a high level of English. Transports are equally controlled for standards as only tour buses with less then 10 years of use are allowed to give tours. (Note: You mention you are fluent in Spanish if you greeted and spoke to the guide in Spanish it is likely he thought you would not mind the tour in Spanish since you did not request the tour in English)

We try not to rush our tours, you do travel large distances in between the locations you visit and so if there are delays with traffic or travelers getting on and off the bus then they can seem rushed to stay on the tour timetable. After the guide gives his explanation at each site he has some time to take questions and wait near the tour bus to await the groups return.

Pisac Market is open every day. Sundays and Tuesdays are advertised as market days because these are the days they are busiest. However in the end it is up to the vendors themselves to fill the markets, there may be a couple times a year on Tuesdays and Sundays where not all the vendors show up and the market may seem empty, these are unpredictable.

Points of interest such as the precious stone shop are visits added to the itinerary in case of a slow day at the markets where travelers can take some time to see or take pictures of the local crafts and craftsmen.

Lunch is in Urubamba, in the middle of the Sacred Valley where all tourists doing the Sacred Valley Tour have lunch we rarely receive any complaints due to the variety. The Buffet includes gives 6 kinds of salads, 6 different types of local dishes. 3 types of soups, 6 types of desserts.

You seem to have the Sacred Valley confused with other local tours that are separate tour and not part of the Sacred Valley Tour. Due to time and distance the Sacred Valley Tour only includes Pisac and Ollantaytambo, Chinchero if you are returning to Cusco. There is not enough time to visit Maras or Moray which is a separate full day tour we offer. These locations are not close enough to do in one day, unless on a rushed private tour. Nowhere on our site do we mention a visit to Condors in a protected area. We only offer a Condor visit in our Colca Canyon tour which is in a whole different area of Peru near Arequipa.

Regarding the Sunrise tour and time of Sunrise you can check online that the time of Sunrise varies depending on the time of the year however it is normally between 5:30 and 6:15AM, now this is Sunrise at sea level, Machu Picchu is at 2,430 meters above sea level, so the sun clears the mountains which are even higher above sea level then Machu Picchu, with the suns rays falling upon the ruins around an hour after true sunrise and this is weather permitting if it is not overcast.

Travelers that wish to see the Sunrise at Machu Picchu are told to make their queue for the buses at 4:30AM to enter among the first at the site and await their guides, otherwise they are picked up later which is the group you were in. We cannot be blamed if you decided to not follow your guides and the tour group and thus did not receive your tour of Machu Picchu.

Despite the points detailed we still offered to give you a partial refund. We apologize for any misunderstandings.
