I am not given any right to choose!
I moved to an office in September 2020 and moved out October 2022. When I moved in, the letting agent told us the energy supplier was British Gas. I called BG and they told me it wasn't them. They asked if I wanted to have them as the supplier but they can't find the current provider in order to switch. At the time, I thought, normally when you moved to a new property, energy supplier will send you a bill! But the bill never arrived. We got contacted by the letting agent after I moved over 15 months later that Edf sent the landlady a bill. Edf started bombarding me a bill of £2258. That works out over £95/ month. They charged night rate 80p-90p/day and day rate 180p-250p/ day! I have a shop and we only pay 14.33p/ KWh and standing charge 22.11p/day back in 2020 and in September 2022 We were paying 18.73p/ KWh and 42.67p/ day standing charge. That shows how expensive Edf charged and I didn't signed up for it!
After I complained, numbers of un-replied emails and hours of phone calls, I finally got to speak to the manager and the recovery team. They insisted me to pay the bill despite knowing that according to Ofgem, energy providers can only back bills up to 12 months. It's not that I don't want to pay, but the rates they gave me is ridiculously high! First, I didn't sign up for these rates. I asked if Edf can at least give me a right to choose a better rates now. They say NO. That was the standard rate during that time and there was only one rate available to choose! Second, it was Edf fault not to send out bills earlier. If they sent it earlier, I had the choice to choose to switch to different rate/ provider. I feel like being force to buy something without any right to choose! It's awful company! Totally rip off! I feel like being robbed! Where's my right to choose?
