Review of Statesman Appliances

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Good value, and washer and dryer reliable

I've had statesman washers for years and they're fine as long as not overloaded and last years with minimal attention. I kept buying because of the good customer service and brilliant local engineer who came out promptly and always had parts. The service is still good now this engineer has retired though they have to order parts. I bought a dryer about two years ago and after initial problem with heating element they replaced whole machine with no problems on new one. I think for price paid the machines are great value. Customer service is also excellent in my experience. couldn't be bothered to click back month at time on date thing had products two years this time

Not as described No free returns to china

Haven't even opened pack as though ordered correct size according to measurements on website what arrived were massive. Thought USA but when looked into return found it has to be returned to china at own cost, in addition only the pants themselves are refundable any booster pads wash bags etc are not. My order was £89 I was offered £22 and not send item back. I will return the items as no use to me but have no confidence will receive refund. Wrong colour sent too these are extremely thick ugly bulky pants nothing like description on website.

Pants only can return, to China at own expense t

Despite using size guide what arrived were huge, I didn't even open the parcel as the width of the pants with the edges folded over was as big as my t shirts and nearly as long. Returns need to be shipped back to china at own expense this is not refunded. Booster pads wash bags and anything other than the pants themselves cannot be refunded or exchanged so that was me £22 out of pocket straight away. I was offered 20%refund and keep items but am going to send them back though likely with cost of international shipping will end up with nothing anyway. Also they don't ship in plain packaging it has ultradries etc printed all over, not that it bothered me just another inaccuracy on website. There are UK companies that offer the same thing, as I've now discovered, so I would advise don't buy ultradries because of returns policy. £97 out of pocket will update if get anything at all back back

Found what I wanted but maddeningly difficult to add items to basket no search facility on shop I was on. Decided to message seller got error message "you need to confirm account look for a message from Etsy." No message received so I wouldn't waste your time on it. Why is it necessary to confirm identity on every purchase

There's an in store box to recycle…

There's an in store box to recycle blister packs which I use. I've never bothered registering to receive the 100 points it says are on offer but for some unknown reason decided to. What followed was far too many questions detailing every ounce of information on me. I trawled through it kept getting error messages for no reason so had to enter, same thing, again. Eventually the tortuous process was finished, but it said account already exists,I haven't created one before, I thought ok and tried to log into the account that already exists, messed on a bit more, but no it says create an account. Maddening why offer points people would recycle anyway. My local boots is now like a maze with plastic barriers cable tied to shelving, apparently to stop shoplifting, dread to think what would happen in a fire. Used contact form to let boots know of issues, no reply. I pay for delivery of prescriptions but other than that it's bye bye boots and once year is up will switch to another pharmacy for everything including eye test

Messaged at all hours nothing stops it

I liked the bricks and mortar shop but having then purchased some things online I'm being bombarded by messages at all hours of day and night. Deleting my account unsubscribe deleted app that installed itself. Nothing works to get rid of the annoying intrusion. I keep my mobile, only phone I have, beside me at night as need to so constant messages disturb my sleep. It will be a cold day in hell before I buy anything from Hobbycraft again

Octopus are amazing

I'm temporarily without funds to meet direct debit contacted octopus and said take this month's out of surplus but was clear when talking short on next month's too. The staff couldn't have been more understanding and helpful they gave me a payment holiday and I was able to take the little surplus on account to get some groceries. Haven't been in this predicament since youngster so was embarrassed, but staff so lovely. If you're struggling don't be afraid to talk to them they're very good and will work out a solution

Useless, and lying. Ordered three separate items to be…

Ordered three separate items to be delivered by evri one of which is needed urgently. In each case the message I have received is attempted delivery... In the first instance I was out in the front garden all afternoon cutting the hedges covering the period of time the supposed attempted delivery was made tonight two attempted deliveries were just made, I am at home I have two front doors both clearly marked with the door number. The fact that the attempted delivery notification was not accompanied by a photo is proof the evri delivery person responsible just lies. The first parcel was actually, finally, delivered, yesterday, outside of the time I was given and left on the doorstep, fine by me it's a good area, so if he was here, which he wasn't, why didn't he do the same again! Sick of this lying driver who can't be arsed to do his job and will now not order from companies who use evri as it's the same every time only previously the goods were returned to sender as undeliverable. Evri need to sort this out. Oh and when you go to evri website robot voice says press option one to complain.... So you press option one and it just continues repeating options before cutting the call what an absolute joke of a company. Update 08/08/25 Once again I am at home waiting for my delivery shortly after the delivery window time I received a notification that both parcels were successfully delivered with a picture of a woman in a leopard skin nightdress! accepting the parcel. This driver doesn't even bother using different photos as others have commented in the reviews about missing parcels showing the same leopard skin topped woman taking the torn and battered parcel. I would urge anyone in the SO16 postcode to think carefully before purchasing items with evri as a delivery company as they are not delivered/stolen by the driver. One of the items was needed to treat a skin condition so obviously the delay before finding out no parcel is annoying. The other was a double Mattress cover also needed. I will contact the company to let them know Evri lost/stolen my goods. I have zero faith reading reviews of ever getting a replacement or my money back money I can I'll afford to lose

Don't answer contact form/email and no phone for customer service

My first order for 20 lily bulbs arrived with most of them growing out of the box so some broken. They were not lillies but I planted them anyway for the price didn't mind what they were as long as grew into something colourful. My second order has not arrived and is way overdue. On checking my account it says it has been processed but I haven't received the goods. I sent two e mails as there is no way of contacting them by phone but received no reply so after a while I sent one more telling them I'd claim my money back from the bank which I have never had to do before, ever. Prices good plants that I did receive poor perhaps they'll flower next year. You risk your money if you order as despite all the guarantees etc on the website nobody responds to contact form and there is no other way to contact them. Update nearly a month after ordering the fuschias have arrived and though rather smaller than the 9cm container ready plants they do at least appear healthy arriving well packaged and watered so at least they'll be ok for next year

I've switched to tiboo

I've switched to tiboo. Made out of waste from sugar cane processing, bamboo is available, 3ply softer than the andrex quilts I used to buy. £36 for 48 rolls cheaper with subscription 10% off first order whether one off or subscription. They plant fruit trees for every box you buy though like who gives a crap how much actually becomes reality debatable. The toilet paper was acceptable from who gives a crap but I found the childish humour tedious so when they messaged me with fart jokes and glow in the dark rolls, which children may like, I searched for another supplier there are lots now. Tiboo matches who gives a crap on roll length and sheets are dinky bit wider and quite a bit longer with tiboo plus thicker and softer. If helping developing countries is for you with money you save by switching you could make quite a good donation over a year to one of charities working field In reply to the response below whilst looking for a new supplier I discovered our increasing use of bamboo is causing problems in itself both in the acreage it takes up and water use so was pleased to find sugar cane toilet roll made from something that would normally be wasted.

Have to send faulty camera back to usa!

I paid a lot for a small digital camera it wouldn't charge from new I bought a new cable still wouldn't charge. As I was looking after my terminally ill mum it just got put to one side until I could deal with it. Polaroid make it as difficult as possible to get anywhere. There reply stated first fully charge the camera which showed it's just a pro forma reply. They added that all returns must be sent back to the USA which is hardly practical particularly when they have site in this country. They ask for reams of info and every time you reply to them they want you to include the previous messages which they don't so you have to copy and paste it in. I would advise against buying Polaroid as there quality control is obviously lacking if a camera made it through that won't charge despite buying a new cable. Either in or out of warranty it's like swimming in treacle trying to communicate with them, life's to short for their " happy to help" then don't,
complicated warranty process

Fraud

I searched for a remote and tried to pay but the only options available were pay pal or klarna neither of which I wanted to use. I received an e mail " you've left something in your shopping cart...." I replied saying didn't want to use klarna or PayPal so had bought the remote from Amazon. Somehow without my authorisation they managed to retrieve my debit card details and again unbeknownst to me processed the payment. At the time I was in middle of changing bank accounts so didn't notice until remote arrived in post. Sent it CA k as unsolicited goods not holding my breath for refund. Will report to trading standards as have the e mails still. The language used by this company in other reviews calling customers scum is appalling and should put people off using this company

I read the reviews too late would never have ordered had I known based in China and goods have to be returned there if you ever get them. Suspect this is complete scam. Wouldn't trust a made in china ipl anyway with all shoddy and counterfeit stuff that comes from china. Either way money down the drain.

Flooded kitchen

Further to my earlier review about faulty dishwasher delivered and installed by Currys. After tortuous process to organise return
Men turned up Man disconnected machine without turning the stop tap on pipe fully off and stood there with mains water flooding the kitchen saying stop tap doesn't work! Then turned it off but not before flooded under cabinets and washing machine which I am unable to move as arthritic. There is a big mains off tap under sink too but he seemed to have no idea. His colleague had to show him how to fit a rubber stopper to the waste outlet. The pipe that the dishwasher is connected to is still leaking a little from the anti limescale thing they fitted which I asked him to remove but was ignored. So currently I'm waiting without heating as water now turned off at mains under sink for a plumber to come this afternoon. Top job Currys delivered faulty machine that leaked from underneath when pre first wash cleaning cycle run then just in case that didn't flood my new floor and ruin cabinets enough, fortunately it's an old kitchen, decided to finish job off by flooding kitchen some more. I should add that prior to Currys involvement the stop tap was working fine as I freecycled the old machine and it was a few weeks before new one was delivered

Always had good service and good…

Always had good service and good products but my latest purchase of a waterproof duvet cover at £53 just beggars belief. Described as a four way stretchable material that can be wiped or washed in a washing machine what arrived was a heavy duty polythene sheeting sealed on three sides so none of the things it says it is in the description online. When I rang to complain the operator kept going round in circles repeating that it says it's polyurethane coated in the description. I said it's not coated it's a sheet of polythene not breathable stretchy or machine washable. He asked if I'd washed it so said rigid and bulky wouldn't go in a machine not like treated fabric that will. I kept asking what he can do to make it right with me as a long standing customer but he just reverted to it's polyurethane again so I asked him to put me on to a manager or

Faulty dishwasher delivered and installed by Currys flooded all over my new kitchen floor

Save your sanity buy somewhere, anywhere else. Dishwasher delivered and installed by Currys. Read manual and commenced the pre first wash cleaning cycle which took forever some time into the program it was clear the machine was leaking from underneath or back of machine. I went round and round in circles on the customer service numbers and was driven to distraction by we've sent you a link to chat to our chat bot have you read our frequently asked questions etc tried all options no nearer getting someone that could help. Finally googled Currys complaints and rang that number but was exactly same as before though I did eventually manage to get a person. She couldn't help but very kindly put me through to the right department. I was then told to ring another number tomorrow as at 15:00 they're finished for the day. Meanwhile the machine though switched off is leaking all over the floor. They suggested booking a repair, on a machine that has only just been installed and has yet to do a wash! I said just take it away and refund it as with all the trouble I've had getting through to a customer service agent I don't want to deal with Currys any more. The reply was that I should call tomorrow. The dishwasher was £350 and is not fit for purpose. Not much point getting a deal if they deliver faulty goods and have no easily contactable customer service. I will think twice about ordering anything else from them. I can't disconnect and remove machine myself as have arthritis. Following the reply below I sent an email with all the details, no response so far. Meanwhile after 40 mins of entering all the info again and again on there helpline to get through I said I wanted a refund and to pick up the machine. This was booked for 28th Feb on an all day appointment which changes to 4 hour slot night before once the appliance is booked back in the refund takes 5-7 working days weekends and Friday doesn't count so it will be second week in march before I receive any money back and only price of machine refunded not £65 delivery and installation or the £14.99 for the hard scale adaptor on the mains feed.

Blocked my move to octopus when paid in full plus exit fees

Been a customer for over 30 years but counts for nothing so am switching. Moved to new property in march, long story short, insisted on replacing existing smart meters, twice, then sent an engineer to commission them when already done. Received so many bills impossible which I pay then redacted
and receive another bill.... Meant to be quarterly billing but bills are willy nilly and latest for two days. British gas will not check latest meter which I believe is faulty as usage on electricity much higher when nothing has changed. Non UK call centre doesn't help. I don't do twitter or Facebook. I will pay the bill and the £200 exit fees just to save my sanity and get the bills right which will save me that amount anyway £50 welcome bonus plus £50 for friend on octopus better customer service. I'm told that if octopus say will issue a credit they do it unlike B Gas who told ombudsman investigated and would credit £75 to account neither of which happened. In reply to the British Gas response below. I have had enough of talking to British Gas it's like swimming in treacle trying to get anywhere so no I won't be engaging with the online chatbot/assistant or anyone else it's much easier to switch and vote with my feet as many of your customers have done before me. Check out octopus it has a UK call centre so no more bad lines or dropped calls though not anticipating any problems to use. So on 29th jan I paid British gas in full including the exit fees and moved to octopus only to receive an email to say that British gas have blocked the move. I'm hoping the ombudsman can intervene as dealing with British gas is now affecting my health. I eventually managed to switch to octopus which is much better. British gas however are still pestering me with emails and texts asking for more information and offering deals. Had they devoted as much energy into the original complaint about a faulty electricity meter I would likely still be a customer. Had planned to renew central heating system with them but will find someone else. It's been two months since switched to octopus having paid British gas in full including exit fees AND they still won't leave me alone sending me texts and messages for meter readings etc. I've switched leave me alone

Heartless bank avoid

Having lost my job and having to sign for benefit I went into branch and asked them to remove the overdraft facility on my account, which I had never used, as I did not want to go into an overdraft I couldn't pay.... The process for benefits was tortuous and there was a delay in payment so approaching a bank holiday weekend with no funds I went into the branch, who know me, and asked for £5 to be advanced, by overdraft or
whatever. I was there ages and they said no unless I signed up to a credit scheme they were running at extortionate rates for far more than I needed. I was soon back at work and
transferred my account to Lloyds.
