Review of Stalbridge Timber

Appalling attitude and after sales…

Appalling attitude and after sales service

Since moving down to Somerset about 10 years ago I have regularly used Stalbridge Timber Supplies which is situated about 2 miles from the village where I live and enjoyed good service and quality of material. However, recently I ordered and had delivered 125 feather edged boards for a fencing project I was undertaking. When the timber arrived I did stand the boards and let them dry out as they were very wet and needed to grade them as some were split and not fit for purpose. I continued with the project and after the fence was about 2/3rd completed I noted some serious warping and buckling of the boards as they continued to dry out in the Winter sunshine, so bad in fact you could put your hand through the fence in several places. I returned to the yard and spoke to someone in the office with a sample board to show the problem and asked why this had happened. He replied it had been very wet and the wood was bought in like that, no talk of replacing it or an apology. He said he would look into it and get back to me but never did so I re-visited the yard once more about 10 days later and was confronted by another person who clearly knew of the problem and from the start was very uncooperative in resolving my issue. He implied I did not understand the nature of wood when it dries out and when I said I taught Woodwork for 35 years just laughed saying “Yeah Yeah” I commented on the material I had been sold was not fit for purpose, produced several photos of the warping on the fence and I would wish to be compensated for the boards that had been replaced, which were probably about 50. I said that I had to use another supplier over the road to continue with the fence, which was kept under cover and far better quality. I did this due to no response given from my original visit or guarantee the material on site was any better. The replacement timber is very clear to see on the finished fence as it is of a far higher standard. This person I spoke to on my second visit categorically said I would get nothing from them. I then asked to have details of the senior director/person running the organisation and was somewhat surprised that I was speaking to him.

I was then told to go and clearly I was wasting his time. Interestingly, the Mission Statement of the company is: “At Stalbridge Timber Supplies we are committed to offering quality service and products. For us, quality is not just a one-off occurrence but a process of ongoing improvement”
As far as I'm concerned there is a great deal of Improvement needed following the result of my experience with the head of the business. I would most definitely look elsewhere with this appalling after sales service and quality of material.

Review of CameraWorld

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Extremely poor communication and stressful experience

I saw that CameraWorld had a Nikkor 105 F2.8 S macro lens, in stock for a good price so I decided to place the order. However, I was then told it was unavailable and they were awaiting stock what did I want to do. We do have a used one in, boxed marked as new. I decided to get that as it was slightly reduced. I did say I was quite fussy and wanted one in mint condition. This to me and other camera dealers I have used means no marks or blemishes at all. When it arrived I was really disappointed to find it was marked in several places and definitely not as new. I sent an email back to the person who dealt with the order and have had no reply to this day. Tried again several days later with email and the phone line was useless so I left a message. I eventually got a reply and someone eventually contacted me just to say as long as it was in the condition sent and within 14 days the money would be refunded. I had to pay an expensive insured service which arrived the next day, I still have had nothing to confirm receiving the lens although I know from tracking it was delivered let alone my money back. It seems once a sale has been made with CameraWorld there just not there to support the customer. It was an expensive purchase and really stressful experience which is still not resolved. Incidentally the camera is still marked up as in stock?

Little or no support available

Absolutely appalling review. There is virtually no support for products online and any suggestions given are just links to articles that are not relevant. I bought an expensive keyboard and mouse which are now totally useless. Avoid this company.

Outstanding Company

I have used this company now for a number of years both for analogue and digital projects. My latest products have been the retrospective range of Thinktank bags, just love them. The service and value for money this company offers is outstanding, with superb support. Items are shipped straight away with excellent packaging. I will use them again and again, thank you Speed Graphic (Love the name)

Review of DPD UK

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

No support and a poor service....

I realise its a very busy time of the year and DPD and they are probably getting a lot of Post Office work but sending a parcel with them has been a nightmare. No support, online or telephone you can't contact and although the app is good it can’t help me in this situation. If my parcel had been delivered on time as I paid for to the shop in question as it was a return there would be no problem. I did pay extra fro this service. It’s a very expensive item and was a Christmas gift. I am now stuck with no way to redeliver from the drop off point where it has been sent several miles away from my target delivery address. What do I do now DPD????? I would love to be able to talk to a human being to sort this out maybe.

Review of Camera Centre UK

Excellent price and service

Excellent price and service. My only gripe was in the packaging of the item. With items such as photographic lens and cameras etc I would like to see the item purchased place in another box for added protection rather than just several layers of bubble wrap. The lens box did have some minor damage on the corners. Other big camera suppliers I have used always use a second box.

Review of 500px

500px and Getty Images Partnership Rip Off

I have been with 500px for over 10 years and have made many fellow photographer friends and enjoyed the community spirit. Like others I have submitted some of my images for purchase through their partnership with Getty images. I have made some money out of it but having recently had one of my photos published in NPhoto, the Nikon only magazine, I felt really chuffed and optimistic about making a good sale. However, I had to wait, 5 months before I got paid a measly £0.23. I thought at first this was a mistake, as it was a 2 page spread and must have been a high resolution image. I contacted 500px several times who eventually got back to me and came up with some lame excuse that the money from this sale would have been a 3 way split and basically said this was the situation in the current climate in stock photo photography which was total nonsense. In a recent centre spread in Dorset Magazine I was paid well over £100 instantly once my invoice was sent. Clearly this is the way forward for me. I feel this company shows little consideration for the work of others with the effort photographers put into showcasing their work and I have now removed all my photos and cancelled my account. I have also been unhappy with the lack of support and consideration for the photographic community, which clearly seems to be an issue at the moment. I will also be writing to NPhoto about this situation, as I have been a long time user of this magazine and sure they would be interested in this . Shame on you 500px.
