I hired Bellhop Movers expecting a professional service, but what I experienced was dishonesty, vague contracts, and negligence that left me with financial losses and irreplaceable damage.
First, Bellhop’s website, contracts, and estimates are written in deliberately vague terms. I specifically hired three movers, but Bellhop only sent two movers and a driver—a driver who did not move anything. Even the two movers admitted on-site that a third mover was required and should have been there. Without that third mover, the job dragged on far longer than necessary. When Bellhop finally sent the third mover hours later, that mover accomplished more in one hour than the team had all day. Bellhop then charged me an additional $600 for delays entirely caused by their own under-staffing and misrepresentation.
Second, their negligence caused direct damage. A full box of fragile valuables—clearly marked FRAGILE and carefully bubble-wrapped—was dropped from the truck. The movers acknowledged the damage and apologized. That box contained vintage and antique items, including glass pitchers, coffee equipment, vintage cups, plates, and an antique iced tea pitcher that is irreplaceable. While this wasn’t a large portion of my belongings, it was a box of highly valuable and sentimental items, some of which can never be replaced.
Third, Bellhop’s customer service and claims process is designed to frustrate customers into giving up. Their phone line is nothing but an AI system that cannot provide real assistance. When I attempted to file a claim, the website they directed me to was incorrect. It took me over five days just to get the correct link to their claims portal—time wasted only because I had to send a detailed email listing all damaged items before anyone responded. To make matters worse, Bellhop requires claims to be filed within five days of the move date, yet they make it nearly impossible to locate the claims portal on their own website, effectively blocking customers from filing in time.
Bellhop caused me:
$1,000+ in losses between destroyed items, wasted time, and unjustified charges.
Sentimental losses from antiques that cannot be replaced.
Stress and frustration from vague contracts, dishonest practices, and a deliberately obstructive claims process.
If Bellhop does not reimburse me, I will seek legal action for damages and deceptive business practices.
Bellhop’s vague wording, unhelpful AI “customer service,” obstructive claims process, and unprofessional conduct should be a red flag to anyone considering using them. This company cannot be trusted.
This is an update to my previous review. First off, the movers, Sinatra and (I do not remember the names of the other 2 movers.) did their job and were professional, but they missed most instructions (language barrier) and caused damage to my house. They were very heavy handed. The leader literally stood over me to watch me write my first review and demanded a tip, starting that they don't get paid much. I will never hire this company, again!
The move went smoothly with thanks to Fernando and Ezechiel! Friendly, efficient, helpful and hardworking, we had an excellent team. This was our second time using Bellhop and we’d use them again!
Really appreciated not having to piece together all the moving parts to our out of state move. Our liason Becca was an excellent communicator, and helped walk us through the process. We had a minor hiccup, but they offered compensation and did the best to get answers for us. It wasn't their fault, it was a lack of communication on the drivers end. But all ended well.
I was quoted $837 for my local move in Atlanta. This estimate was based on inventory I submitted in good faith. But on move day, Bellhop’s crew showed up grossly unprepared — with only a single Allen wrench, no standard moving tools, and zero equipment for disassembly or safe handling of furniture.
This lack of preparation directly led to delays. I had to hire outside help to complete the move. Despite this, I was blindsided with a final bill of over $1,800, with no real-time updates or opportunities to approve or reject the extra time. There was no communication as the job dragged on — just an inflated charge dumped on me after the fact.
Several of my belongings were damaged, including furniture and décor. Bellhop’s solution? A $449 “settlement” — but only if I agreed to drop my dispute and pay the full inflated bill. No actual refund. Just a credit dangled as leverage. That is not restitution — that is coercion.
Bellhop continues to point fingers, claiming the job took longer due to “extra inventory”. That is categorically false. What caused the delay was their own operational failure. Their crew was under-equipped, under-informed, and under-delivered in every way.
They cite their Terms of Service to justify the bill, but terms do not excuse incompetence. Nor do they justify holding a damage settlement hostage unless I submit to charges I never agreed to.
have escalated this to my credit card provider and filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau and consumer protection agencies. I even offered to pay the original quote in full — despite the inconvenience and damage — and was still met with zero flexibility.
Do not be fooled by their polished website or friendly booking process. Bellhop’s business model seems designed to lowball quotes, arrive ill-equipped, and then back you into a corner with unexpected fees, while hiding behind hourly billing fine print.
If you value transparency, accountability, and professionalism — look elsewhere. You deserve better. We all do.
We hired movers to get us from Ohio to North Carolina. Both sets of movers on two separate days were 2+ hours late. Hire someone else, this company is not worth it.
Terrance, Tristan, and Angelo absolutely crushed a 3rd floor walkup move out in 90 degree Chicago August heat. They were fast, efficient, responsive, and easy to guide (what goes where).
Strongly advise to stay away from Bellhop. They misrepresented the scope of their work, failed to carry proper authority under the FMCSA (as they are legally required to do) at the time we signed our contract, tried to tie contingencies into a refund such as cancelling a bank chargeback, removing reviews, etc. (coercion to waive consumer rights) Do your homework here as there are plenty of reviews online of similar experiences.
Easy and straight forward booking and follow up - the movers we also great....Both courteous and focused.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY
I used bellhop for my long distance move from Texas to Illinois. They broke multiple pieces of my furniture, the driver was rude and didn’t follow instructions and the claim team was absolutely awful. Bellhop states that they resolve all claims in 5 business days yet it’s been almost 3 weeks since I moved and getting answers out of them is like pulling teeth. The claims team is a mess and do not communicate with each other, every time you get assigned to a new team member you have to reexplain the whole claim despite filling out constant forms and uploading photos of the damage. If you value your possessions and good customer service, do yourself a favor and use another moving company. Cheap isn’t always better.
The move was a disaster. Bellhop was a partner of my apartment building so I thought they were vetted and professional. Unlike a reputable company with their own employees, they outsource to third parties at the cheapest rates. I paid for pre-packing and a move. One company pre-packed so poorly that the moving company that came the next day would not move all the items. I was out of the country but assured all would go smoothly. When I came back 10 days later, I had to hire another moving company to complete the move. Bellhop pre-packers or the movers broke many items and never used the wrapping paper, bubble wrap supplied. They wrapped my lamps, crystal and fragile items in my son’s Navy uniforms which were hung and pressed in the closet. Once home, I could only get AI bots on the phone. I sent photos of damaged items to them but was told by AI emails that I had no right to a claim as it was past the 5 day deadline to submit claims. I disputed the charge with my credit card company but BellHop said the move was satisfactory and complete. If it was, I would not have had to hire another moving company. So I paid two moving companies and never got reimbursed for damaged items. In addition, Bellhop’s AI threatened to file a report with a collection agency for the disputed amount which impacts my credit score. Worse moving experience I have ever had and Bellhop ignores any requests for a resolution or customer care solutions.
Noah, the team lead was great and professional. The other young man showed up late, high, broke my dresser, and then proceeded to try to flirt with me. It was very clear the team lead was frustrated with his (the other young man) lack of knowledge about moving and his unprofessionalism.
If I could give them a zero I would. They were 3 hours late. Sent the wrong size truck which resulted in having to do 2 trips and then they billed me an extra $692 for the additional 3 hours for THEIR mistake. They offered me $198 credit. They are a complete joke and I would never use them again.
I had one of the worst moving experiences ever with Bellhop. I hired them to move a one-bedroom apartment — just a queen bed, two dressers, and two nightstands. I was quoted $202/hour for two movers and a truck, with an estimated total of $606 for 3 hours. Sounds reasonable, right? Unfortunately, what I got was a complete disaster.
The movers showed up with no urgency and worked incredibly slowly. One of them was constantly on his phone, and they even spent two hours just moving things around in my backyard. They clearly dragged out the time on purpose, and what should have taken 3 hours ended up taking 7 hours.
Because all my belongings were already in their truck, I had no choice but to continue with the service — they left me with no option to stop. In the end, I was charged a total of $1,302 — more than double the original estimate — just for a small one-bedroom move.
To make matters worse:
I had already packed everything myself, and they only needed to move three boxes and a few furniture items.
They dragged boxes, scratched my floors, and damaged furniture.
One of the movers broke a bag of cement, which spilled on my cat tree. It was brought inside without being cleaned off, and sand scattered all over my house — upstairs, in the hallway, and in the bedroom. I had to spend hours cleaning up their mess.
I reached out to Bellhop multiple times, but they offered no solution and continued to charge me more. This company is predatory, unprofessional, and dishonest. They clearly don’t care about their customers — only about squeezing every last dollar out of them.
Do NOT use Bellhop. I would never recommend them to anyone. I am currently exploring legal action and disputing the charges. This company should not be in business.
THE WORST MOVING EXPERIENCE EVER. They claim to be local but they are not. They broker local people who are not experienced and break things. Then they offer payback BY THE POUND!!!! They broke a priceless painting. The glass in the frame and the frame broke scraping the painting. They broke much of my new packing bags. They broke a chair and scratched the walls in delivery. I asked to be compensated. They offer $20. I don’t have the power to make them do right but I have the power of the pen and I will continue giving bad reviews if it helps someone else avoid what I went through.
I have been using Bellhop to schedule moving services for 5 years now, with the most recent move including a last minute movers request, and Bellhop came through in a timely manner to help me out, which minimized my stress during a very stressful time. Thank you, Bellhop, for being reliable, professional, transparent and affordable!
If I could give 0 stars I would. I booked bellhop for an emergency move, and although the movers actually showed up on time, it went downhill from there. I hired 4 movers, only 3 showed up. They manhandled everything they touched despite me asking them multiple times to be careful. Just about everything they touched got damaged. Even containers and items inside said containers were damaged to varying degrees. I could keep going, but long story short, I have 100+ pictures of the damages that I sent to bellhop and the 'refund' they offered was downright insulting. I am still working on getting a full refund because some of the items that were damaged are antiques and the cost to repair everything is as much if not more than what I paid for the move. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY.
Edit: It's been over 10 days since trying to get a refund and you can't get a real person on the phone even if you ask the bot for a person. The bot literally will not allow it.
I can't understand how our original search produced such good reviews for this company.
For background, we move often between cities and countries due to work. So, I have plenty of experience with movers.
Hired bellhop weeks in advance, they knew it was a big house and and interstate move. Everything was confirmed and then, truck #1 shows up and 1 hour later 2 workers (for a 6,000 sq ft home!). It took 7 hours from bellhop to call us back after multiple attempts, just to hear that there was nothing they could do. Second truck shows up and had to wait hours to load, since with only 2 people were present.
Needless to say, its been 8 hours and we are not close to being done! No resolution, only A.I. replies and finally a person who is in Philippines!! NO ONE to resolve the issue on a Monday, they just blame each other.
Fortunately the 2 workers that showed up were committed to do the job and I am only hoping that they get paid accordingly, after all they are charging me as if all of the workers showed up!
2nd leg of the move is still to happen, this review may get worse or they may redeem themselves. Still waiting to see, but I am not hopeful
Never again!!

Late Arrival: The movers did not arrive during the scheduled time window of 2–3 PM. It was difficult to find the right point of contact, and after eventually reaching Bellhop customer care, I was told they would follow up.
Miscommunication: In the meantime, I located the assigned company’s name in the dashboard but had to search for that provider emergency contact number online myself (we should be provided a contact number with the actual company doing the moving.) When I spoke with them directly, they incorrectly stated that my moving truck had broken down and the service was cancelled for the day—which was completely untrue, and clearly a mix-up with another service booking. They apologized and said they would locate 2 movers ASAP. 2 movers arrived approximately 4:45 PM.
Unprepared Crew: The movers arrived under the impression they were moving 1 single item, not an entire 4-bedroom household of furniture. They brought no tools to disassemble furniture and were generally unprepared for the scope of the job. They had also already completed 2 other moves that day and were tired and not in a positive mind to spend the next 2 hours working on a Saturday evening.
Poor Handling and Oversight: My partner and I had to cover with provided packing blankets and strategically pack furniture ourselves as the movers were not packing efficiently enough for us to add in boxes. When they claimed the job was complete, I had to point out they forgot a TV, nightstands, headboard & footboard. They also missed a dresser mirror and bed parts from another bedroom - which we only discovered after they left. Unfortunately those items no longer fit since we had already been packing other items to complete the space when they said they got everything.
Book direct with a reputable company in the future.
To be fair, the movers themselves were friendly and respectful, I don’t blame them personally. But being friendly is not enough when clear instructions are ignored and the entire process becomes a disaster.
I clearly explained that I only needed help moving the large items, my bed, refrigerator, couch, and table. I was fully prepared to handle the smaller boxes on my own. Despite this, the movers brought almost everything, which unnecessarily extended the process by hours.
They were originally scheduled to start the move around 2:00 p.m., and I booked my building’s elevator from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., later extended to 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The movers didn’t arrive at my original apartment until 3:13 p.m., and they didn’t get to my new apartment (just 2.8 miles away) until nearly 11:00 p.m.
To make matters worse, none of my furniture was wrapped even though it should have been. Items were loaded directly onto the truck. As a result, multiple pieces now have scratches and stained, which is both frustrating and unacceptable.
By the time they arrived, I had already been awake since 4:00 a.m. the day before. I was physically and mentally exhausted. Instead of getting to settle into my new home, I found myself carrying furniture with my own hands, just to help them finish. Even worse, my two children, ages 11 and 8, had to help as well. We had no beds, no chairs, no table, nothing was set up. I couldn’t leave them alone in the unit, so we had no choice but to assist.
The move finally ended around 3:30 a.m.
Now, I’m being billed $215 per hour for every hour beyond the 3-hour booking, all for a job that went completely off track due to delays, poor communication, and failure to follow simple instructions.
This move should have been quick, smooth, and affordable. Instead, it turned into a nightmare that left me emotionally drained, physically sore, and financially stressed. I hired Bellhop because they were recommended by the Livly app and seemed like a professional choice. Sadly, they didn’t deliver on that promise.
If you’re looking for a stress-free, reliable move, please think twice. Being friendly isn’t enough when your time, money, and belongings are handled so carelessly. I truly hope my experience helps others avoid the same mistake.
