I always use Carrentals
I've used Carrentals a number of times now for both UK and overseas car hire. The website is easy to use and offers a great range of filter options to help get the right car. I especially like the "worry free" option for the extra level of insurance cover it provides. Prices are very competitive as well.

Returned car to Paphos airport and was…
Returned car to Paphos airport and was told all ok. Instead of my deposit being returned further money was taken from my card. Tried calling carrentals.co.uk but got a message that their customer service line was currently closed and to call again between 9 and 1 Monday to Friday (at 09:45 on a Wednesday). Tried again with the option for new bookings and was told that since 1st August customer "service" only respond to emails. Submitted an email query and received an automated response telling me to expect a reply within 8-12 weeks.

Having rented a car through Carrentals.co.uk with SIXT at Belfast City Airport
I specifically used this site as they show the credit card deposit and what I selected was declared as low £600 so I booked
At the SIXT desk they refused to accept the £600 and said it was £1500 - I knew I did not have that on the credit card as I was planning on paying £600 - eventhough it was in the voucher from Carrentals.co.uk they refused to acknowledge it
I note this is still advertised on your website as of today
SIXT said this was never agreed between Carrentals.co.uk and SIXT they said the only solution was to cancel or pay £89 to reduce the deposit to £200
On returning the Car again SIXT refused to refund and after complaining to Carrental.co.uk they have refused to refund even having provided the receipts
I am looking to have the £89 refunded but am not going to hold my breath !

Website is easy to use and has great filters / options. If anything goes wrong - the service team are very proactive in helping and sorting things out. I've used carrentals dozens of times and have always been happy.
Buggy systems to avoid the 48h free cancellation
I made a reservation from Portugal to start on the 14/08/2025 at 18:30 with 48 hours free cancellation. On the 12th at 17, I decided, I want to cancel the reservation, so I logged into the website and it said I can not because it is less than 72 hours (despite the voucher saying I can until 48 hours). There was a phone number to call, which when I tried, it said it is outside working hours, although the call itself says they are working till 20:00 and I was calling at 17!
Anyhow, on the website it was possible to send a message to modify the booking so I used it to send a request for cancellation at 17:54, I received a receipt confirmation email from them at 17:55, Lisbon time. However, the email said it was submitted at 18:55, probably this is due to time differences.
The next day, I called the customer service and Veronica, who was very helpful tried to work with me through it but the supervisor refused to allow me free cancellation because the email says it was submitted at 18:55, eventhough, that was 17:55 Lisbon time.
They should fix their buggy systems and do make sure their customer support is working at the hours they mention!

They will take your money and refuse the car with some insurance excuse and not give the money back.

The booking seemed to have failed. I contacted via the web page and got an immediate response from a human not a bot. Friendly, quick and problem solved. Great service.

All inclusions fully explained and documented, providing warnings not to be coerced into hire desk add ons that are already included in the hire rate.
Easy to find the car I wanted
Easy to find the car I wanted, and best of all free cancellation so that when the price drops (as it nearly always does close to hire date) I can rebook. Including the excess insurance at a competitive price also saves time buying it separately.
Booked & paid for a car more upfront
Booked & paid for a car more upfront, got to europecar to collect & due to failing a soft credit check they told me they couldn’t give me a car. I contacted car rentals & was told that no refund would be given as it states on the terms & conditions a credit check would be carried out (not disputing this) however I was completely unaware I would fail this! After many hours to trying to speak to a helpful advisor i gave us. I was told I should have called europecar beforehand and checked if I was going to pass the credit check.
Take your money quick enough but won’t give you it back despite never receiving the service!
Avoid!!!
