Parcel Returned to Sender for No Reason
I am expecting a parcel from Hong Kong, sent via Hong Kong Post.
This morning I received 3 emails from DPD identifying the sender by name and identifying the date of delivery as today. The email included a parcel number which I could track on the web site. The tracking showed the parcel passing through a number of local points recognisable as in my area.
As the delivery looked to be taking place this afternoon, when I would be out, I set a safe place to drop the parcel and this was confirmed by email.
Next thing was that the tracking showed the parcel was being returned to the sender - no idea why this happened.
I contacted DPD by phone and had an unsatisfactory discussion with the operator, mainly because I could not understand her accent well and had to keep requesting a repeat.
She tried the tracking number and said it did not work, however I was able to get a response from the web site for the same tracking number several times.
Her advice was to contact the sender in Hong Kong - who is currently away in Japan - and seek the DPD parcel number.
Eventually I was able to find on the DPD web site another number for the parcel (Consignment). This was accepted by the Helpline operator and she was able to find the parcel information.
It turned out that some thing about the label information was incorrect and the parcel had to be returned to the sender (in Hong Kong) to be corrected.
This is my first experience with DPD and I found it not very satisfactory from the point of view of the website access, app access, response from helpline, or the general system operation.
**Update 26/10/23**
Had a response from DPD. They accepted the error as theirs and have promised to refund all costs of the initial journey to UK from Hong Kong and the return, which is now its fate, apparently the parcel has gone too far on its return journey to be correctly re-directed.
Now my son in Hong Kong has to wait for its return and then send it back to UK again, having paid the cost of return to Hong Kong Post and the new cost of the journey. He will then need to claim all costs back from DPD.
Whilst it should not cost any more than the single journey originally anticipated, it would be a nice gesture if DPD were to also provide the cost of the new journey required to cover for the hassle in chasing and re-sending.
**Update 03/11/23**
A quick update to say that DPD did manage to stop the parcel from being sent back to Hong Kong and delivered it to the correct address at the beginning of this week.
Apart from a lot of anxiety and time spent trying to get action from the Helpline, the company did a reasonable job at getting the parcel to me and I have to commend them for this.
