I feel I need to address the balance here. I have been using Numbergoup since early 2011. I have never experienced a breakdown in service and the times times that I have wanted to contact them they have always answered the phone or responded to an email. I allocate numbers on a regular basis for various advertisements and have never experienced any issues. The level of call detail for (now) £10 is still good value for money. I can have any number, missed call or voicemail forwarded anywhere that I choose. Numberstore (who I also use) is more expensive and without half of the features unless you spend 3 times as much. I would and often do recommend them.
James.

We came across NumberGroup about 3-4 months ago now when looking for a VOIP orientated telecoms company to provide in & outbound SIP trunking services along with various direct-dial numbers for our office telecoms.
Out of all the companies we looked at, NumberGroup seemed to offer exceptional value for money with an honest approach to pricing core technologies such as SIP trunks. They charge for service provision & calls, but don't charge stupid amounts of cash (like so many other VOIP telecoms companies) for SIP trunking or the ability to handle more than one call concurrently. In addition they also provide a range of PBX style services - hunt groups, call forwarding, voicemail, fax-to-email etc. but aside from fax-to-email we provide these ourselves with an on-site Asterisk system.
We ran a free trial for a week or so and decided to pilot NG along with a new in-house SIP system as a replacement for an ageing PSTN based PBX.
Had a couple of teething problems in terms of getting the right configuration on Asterisk to optimise inbound routing & trunks (entirely our fault!), and a brief over capacity issue while waiting for BT to activate a load of additional circuits for them; but otherwise the service has been of a consistently high quality & problem free.
We now run all our office telecoms through NG, using SIP trunks to receive inbound calls from a collection of DDI numbers (regional 01xxx & an 0800) & rely on their great value outbound call service to handle all outbound traffic.
It... Just... Works.... :-)
In summary, NG are a great company - exceptional prices, reliable service and a helpful team. I'd recommend them to anyone looking for a teleco to support inbound DDIs or good value calls through SIP trunking. Probably helps if you know your way around your telecoms system, but it's not difficult to get up and running.
I'd not seen the other reviews posted here before signing up, and in retrospect don't think they'd have made any difference to our decision.
For the sake of clarity, I have no connection with NG except for being a satisfied customer.
My purchase has also been verified by TrustPilot.
Updated 2/2/2013:
I find it amusing people rush to declare this as a fake review. It isn't.
TrustPilot have received & checked copies of some of our recent invoices from Numbergroup and I'd invite anyone who still wishes to challenge the authenticity to contact either me, or Numbergroup to check for themselves.
Like many companies, NG have their share of happy & unhappy customers. We can't fault their service - it has been nothing but first class so far.

Another day, another "report this review".
Unfortunately guys, this is a genuine view of Numbergroup.
Feel free to report it if you really, really must; it's been reviewed by Trustpilot and they've verified our purchase so you're just creating work for their support team.
Sorry if you've not had a good experience with them - we have. That doesn't make this an inappropriate, inaccurate or fake review; just one that's perhaps different to yours.
Update 26/03/2013
No issues to report - good, continuing service from Numbergroup. We're in the process of porting some of our older PSTN numbers onto NG's network at the moment, and I'm continuing to recommend them to other local businesses.
Bizarrely one of the individuals who posted a negative review below now seems to have convinced himself that I'm associated with Numbergroup. Not the case whatsoever, and as verified by Trustpilot we're simply a happy customer. Highly comical.

I have to admit, the service itself is really good. On the technical side of things, I have absolutely no complaints.
However, these people do not know how to deal with customers.
When I asked them about the aggressive pricing model I was told " For 33p a day it's a no brainier to me, if you wanted a less reliable and inferior service with no support move to [external reference]. " (by the way [external reference] offers a very reliable service)
Now, that's not the way to speak to customers or people to general.
All I wanted was a clear explanation, since they hardly gave any clear notice about what they intended to do.

P.S. Before I signed up I read reviews about staff at this company being rude. I asked them and they said it was just the competition trying to make them look bad. Well, I'm disappointed to find out that the reviews were right.

I joined number group as a free phone service. Early in 2012 this become a paid service although still cheap. In May 2012 its prices have risen again and it's now about the same price as a proper BT line.
When the service was free the call quality had been choppy but being free that's fine but as a paid service the call quality has not improved and on occasion has been so poor the call has needed to be terminated. On many occasions I cannot get to my account with them, especially when bills are due strangely.
The biggest issue though is the aggressive billing. When the billing started I got a bill via email and the phone line was disabled until I paid the bill, so I lost all service for the duration and it wasn't fast getting the service back again. Now I get a bill threatening to close the account if I don't pay within 10 days, it's not that I can't pay it but the aggressive billing turns me off and seeing other reviews about billing I can see they are just money grabbing and quick to get courts involved.
I signed up for a free service and now I'm looking at £120.00 annually to keep the number. Even though I have 1000 biz cards with the number printed on them I'm closing the account today. I'll let you know if I have any trouble.

NumberGroup's T&Cs say that "at least thirty (30) days notice will be given prior to suspension for non-payment" but in my case they cut off my business lines on February 14th after one (1) days notice for a bill that had been due for payment (they allege) within 10 days of February 1st (previous invoices had allowed 30 days to pay). Does that look like 30 days notice prior to suspension to anyone?
The functionality of the web site is good, but the customer service (and the abilty to add up!) are from the dark ages.
And reading their response it seems like reading and abiding by their own T&Cs isn’t a strong point either.

I've received a legal claim form from Birmingham County Court, trying to charge me £259 for a £14.05 amount. Despite no mentions in their terms and conditions that they will pursue unpaid bills this way.
The company made no effort to write to me, or call me, instead charging £210 for solicitors costs (despite I doubt using a solicitor to prepare the form).
I tried to get hold of them on the phone (they are a phone company after all) and got through to their shared office reception, who couldn't put me through to anyone on three consecutive days. They don't return my emails either.
Anyway, it's easier to state my peace on here. I look forward to hearing from you. Perhaps in writing?
