I have stored my stuff at the Storage King on Johnston Parkway for the past four years. Because the fees have been rising astronomically, I decided to clear out my storage. While I was clearing my storage, I saw mold growing on my furniture and books. I have chronic sinusitis, nonallergic rhinitis, and asthmatic tendencies. I would have finished cleaning my storage, but I cannot take mold-infested stuff inside my car because of breathing difficulties. Throughout the years, I spent between $6,000-$8,000 on storage fees, and the things I wanted to preserve, like my brown leather couch and solid wood table, are no longer salvageable. Numerous times, I contacted the corporate office and local site, and they have been nonresponsive.
I had my things in a climate-controlled storage unit. Evidently, there had to be water leakage, and a time when the air conditioner was turned off. My wine case had melted candle residue on it. Storage King has a problem with retaining people. They want to charge me fees while I clean out the storage, and they tell me I have to pay someone to get my damaged stuff out of the storage. I would have been done clearing out the storage if they had responded to my concern earlier this month without delay and paid attention to the temperatures of their storage units. As I clean out the storage, I am determining how much damage has been done to my things. This organization owes me money because of its employees' incompetence and the damage to my stuff. The stuff that was destroyed is irreplaceable. I need my money back for the emotional trauma this incident has caused me.

This place is a complete joke! Our family is paying them monthly now for over a year. I came all the way out from Idaho to Michigan to help my mom get her stuff and they have some ridiculously rigid policy in which they won't release our stuff nor allow us to get our own stuff because only my mom's (common law) husband, my step dad's name is on the paperwork. Even though he is requesting and actually demanding to allow us to get the stuff because he's immobile. Hateful snakes!! No wonder all these other negative reviews! I wish they would have checked them out in advance. Do your homework!!!
Seems like they love to benefit from this kind of "soft" robbery. If they can't get the stuff while I'm here they are not mobile enough to get it. It's theft!!! We'll be looking into legal action. -5 stars!!!! Find someone who likes the customers who keep them in business!!!!

I am writing as a deeply dissatisfied customer to express my frustration with the poor service I received at your Tallahassee location (942 SW Capital Circle). As a loyal client for 4 years and 7 months, I have never missed a payment but was penalized with a $30 late fee due to miscommunications and management failures.
Here are the key points:
• On 1/7/28, I called to inquire about moving out. I was informed I could move out by the 15th or make a payment to continue my rental.
• I assumed my rental would continue without disruption since I did not move out.
• On 1/14, I called to confirm my intent to stay another month.
• On 1/16, I received an email about my account being past due, and a late fee was assessed. When I called to dispute it, I was told a manager would call me back.
• Despite multiple follow-ups, my call was returned on 1/27, over 10 days later.
During my call with manager Sam, I was acknowledged as a great client but told late fees are removed only for issues on your end. I highlighted problems stemming from:
1. Lack of communication about auto-pay policies.
2. Delayed responses regarding payment inquiries before the late fee.
Despite thes noted issues on their end, no accommodation was made. I paid the full amount of $194, including the $30 late fee, and requested a resolution (e.g., a discount or alternative storage option), but none were offered.
This experience has left me feeling disrespected as a loyal customer. I demand:
1. A refund of the $30 late fee due to your team’s failure to communicate.
2. A formal acknowledgment of the inconvenience caused.
I plan to vacate the unit before February 15th and will share this experience in negative reviews regardless if no resolution is provided. I look forward to their immediate response and refund of $30. If I do not hear back within five business days, I will escalate this to corporate management and consumer protection agencies.

Storage king will get you in there with great online prices but wait until that special is over! They will raise the price more than double! The facility off Euclid Ave. has pot holes , broken fences and has changed management several times and the woman in charge now is so rude! They get you in with cheap deals and then they rip you off with high increase payments!!

I rented several units at the facility in Hixson Tn. I was broke into twice and had a rat infestation. This all occurred in several years of renting. This company then raised rates to almost double of my initial rate. They sold the facility in Hixson Tn to another company. I was told it raised the company revenue to get maximum value out of the company the renters paid the price. You can’t get in touch with the regional manager and she didn’t come around but twice a year. I called the main office in New York City just to get no help with problems at this facility. The police was on the property a lot with people having other problems. The new company that’s now managing the property has done a great job fixing a lot of the problems. The biggest thing regional managers do have an open door policy to fix problems and run it with integrity I fill so much safer at this facility now. Please be aware from renting from storage king usa
We have an A/C unit leaking into our…
We have an A/C unit leaking into our unit currently x 8 days. I just found out yesterday while going to the unit. They did try contacting me about the leak, but apparently had wrong contact numbers for us.
Regardless, I asked if an A/C repair person had inspected the A/C leak. She said no because the leak stopped (as it was actively leaking). I said it is still leaking, and the reason it temporarily stops is when the A/C unit turns off. She would not call an A/C repair person last night, and we were in unit several times today, and A/C is still leaking into our unit.
I have already obtained a new storage unit elsewhere from a different company.
Update on 11/17/2024: We removed damaged items and started moving things to a new storage unit elsewhere. A/c continued to leak when unit was running, and would slowly stop leaking when A/C unit turned off. Obviously Storage King still has not had an A/C person out to fix the problem. This is neglegence.

Not all facilities are the same but some are very inconvenient to get to your stuff terrible climate control for people that are in there messing around in their units taking stuff in taking stuff out Way Overpriced they jack up the price many times in a three year period not worth it you can find others that are 25% less and terrible communication if you're a little bit late because times are hard for a lot of people for obvious reasons you get a big late fee
Don't believe a word they say!!!
I rented my unit just a few months ago for three reasons: 1) I was told the introductory price I paid would not go up, 2) the facility said there was 24-hour access, and 3) carts were available to move your items. All of these claims have been proven to be false. My rate has already been increased, 24-hour access is never an option, and carts are only available at the office, which is rarely open. Phone calls are rarely answered, and messages take days to be returned. Their record-keeping is shoddy, as I was asked if I wanted to keep my reservation for a unit in a size that I had never requested and after I'd been a renter for two months. Nothing that they advertise is true and getting help, either in person or via phone, is nearly impossible.

Absolutely the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. No one ever picks up the phone, and it takes over a week and a half just to get a call back. Prices are constantly increasing without notice, and they frequently charge late fees even when they fail to update their online portal on time. If you are looking for quality storage company, KEEP LOOKING!!! Storage King USA does not care about their customers. We were recently victims of identity theft and had to cancel are credit/debit cards. Our payment has been set on auto pay for 3 YEARS!!! We have never been late or missed a payment. In waiting for our new cards to arrive, we were charged nearly $50 in late fees!!! NO PHONE CALL, NO NOTICE!! When our new cards arrived, we called to update payment info. I strongly urge you to reconsider renting from Storage King, specifically their Dallas, TX location. Be sure to thoroughly read through all available reviews and feedback before making any decisions involving this facility.
Customers have established a Facebook group called StorageKingWatchdog to expose the facility's corrupt mismanagement and misconduct. Here are essential points to consider:
- Misleading pricing: Storage King attracts new tenants with competitive low rental rates, only to impose substantial rental increase notices shortly after.
- Rampant theft and security issues: The facility is plagued by frequent burglaries due to the lack of an onsite manager. There is only a maintenance employee present three days a week. The district manager admitted in July 2024 that three to four units are broken into daily.
- Unsupportive management: Management fails to contact tenants affected by break-ins, claiming that tenants must check their units regularly and resecure them when necessary.
- Aggressive practices: Storage King quickly locks out tenants, puts units under lien, and provides no recourse in the event of a break-in.
- Unsecured premises: The gate is often "broken" or left open, compromising security and inviting theft. Units are separated by thin metal flashing, which can be easily unscrewed, allowing easy access to neighboring units.
- Questionable insurance association: The insurance company associated with Storage King raises concerns about potential conflicts of interest.
- False advertising: Storage King falsely advertises 24-hour access, requiring express permission from upper management.
Like many others, I've faced multiple system issues and attempted to address them with management, only to receive dismissive responses and no helpful solutions. Despite providing recorded phone calls and receipts as proof, the manager refused to take responsibility.
Please take these warnings seriously and spare yourself the stress and potential loss associated with renting from Storage King. Choose a storage facility that prioritizes security and values customer satisfaction instead. Don't let deceptive practices and poor management compromise the safety of your belongings.
Avoid Storage King, cheaper to rent an apartment
Actual and factual experience with Storage King in Roanoke, Virginia. SK will offer low prices to lure you in and then, within 3-4 months, increase the rate by 30% to 40%. I've had two units and three increases in the past year.
Here is the SAME email they send:
"We monitor our costs closely to avoid passing on major rental rate increases to you, our valued customers. Unfortunately, we are left with no alternative but to increase your rent to continue to provide you with a reliable storage experience we know you expect.
This letter is to serve as your thirty (30) day notice for a rental rate change on your unit. Your monthly rent for the space will change from $189.00 to $250.00 per month with a tax of $0.00 for a total of $250.00 plus insurance of $12.00 and other costs for premium services that apply (if any). The new rate will be in effect starting with your payment due on or after September 17, 2024."
I'm moving out of the last unit and warning anyone looking for a storage facility should avoid Storage King.
For the record, the manager Landon is nice and tries to be helpful but he has no say about the increase in fees
