long-time Paylocity customer now unhappy

I am a long-time Paylocity customer and up until recently I have been a fan. However, these new changes are terrible. Having to click 15 times to see data is ridiculous. Having an edit button right next to a delete button is dangerous! I hate the new interface so much I am considering looking for a new payroll company.

Paylocity stole $866 from me and ignored every demand

On August 19, 2025, I canceled my COBRA coverage with Paylocity. I received termination notices confirming the cancellation. Despite this, on September 2, 2025, Paylocity took $866 from my bank account for coverage that did not exist.

I emailed their COBRA support team twice (9/13 and 9/17) with proof attached, demanding a refund. No one replied. Instead, on 9/22 Paylocity locked me out of my own account, preventing me from removing my banking information or accessing my records.

This is not a “mistake” — it is unauthorized withdrawal, account lockout, and complete silence. I had to escalate to the CFPB, the Department of Labor, and my bank’s fraud department just to get attention. Regulators confirmed I’m far from the only one — Paylocity has a large number of complaints for similar behavior.

If you’re an employer trusting Paylocity to manage payroll or benefits, know that this is how they treat people: they take your money, ignore you, and block access to your own account.

If I could give zero stars

If I could give zero stars, I would. I'm trying to onboard with an entity that uses paylocity and it is ridiculous. The process is slow, tedious, way more difficult than it should be, and a perfect example of a "service" that a privately owned business would scrap ASAP. All the employees I've talked to have had similar problems, requiring someone in the main office to "push" their onboarding to the next step because paylocity doesn't register your progress and allow you to continue. A total waste - for the love of sanity, don't do it.

Worst Customer Service EVER

Worst Customer Service EVER! The system itself is really nice. Unfortunately, the service is just a total joke. I signed up for pretty much all of the products they offer. They send a team of a dozen people after you who ask for the same data over and over. No one person is in charge. No one knows how the system works as a whole. Implementation was terrible. I was hoping once we got placed with the service team we could iron out the bugs. The service consists of this process... You explain the problem. They don't read the email and reply with a question that is in your original email. I'm guessing they just have to show they are responding to you. You reply with the exact same thing you originally asked. You get bounced around and told that they don't know that product. Most things take days or weeks to straighten out. Things that were working just suddenly stop working and no one seems to know how to fix anything. I love the system itself. It’s very clean and when it works, it’s nice. God forbid you have any sort of issue that requires talking to someone. Sometimes you are just stuck dealing with them because there are some things that are just locked down. If you are not an independent thinker with a ton of patience, then stay away from this product. Right now, they are assigning random people to us telling us they are our dedicated person then they just disappear. It is VERY frustrating. I’m hoping that eventually we get everything fixed. Otherwise, we are going to have to change companies. I’m dreading it because this one took several months to place.

Worthless joke of a company

Worthless joke of a company that makes you jump through hoops to spend money that you have paid for... you have to resubmit receipts and then go ask for special receipts when normal medical receipts are not "good enough". I would never recommend this company to anyone for any reason. They make everything difficult and it's not worth dealing with them for anything.

Extremely Disappointed

We’ve had a truly frustrating experience with Paylocity. Their customer service is the absolute worst we’ve encountered. They do not return calls or respond to emails, leaving critical payroll and HR issues unresolved for days or even weeks. It feels like once they have you as a customer, you’re completely on your own.
We expected a partner that would support us and help us navigate challenges, instead, we’re met with silence. I would strongly caution others to look elsewhere if responsive, reliable support is important to your business.

Everything from implantation to ease of…

Everything from implantation to ease of use. After looking at the other reviews they are all accurate.
It took them more than two months to set up an import for my accounting software. We started first week of November and it was the end of January before i could properly balance my accounts, do quartiles and year end. The import function wasn't what they claimed to be seamless. There was an error in 4th quarter Tax payments and when i Contacted them they said you could just pay it and we will have an answer for you in about 30 days after they do an investigation. I did it in 10 minutes and gave them the answer and their response was thank you we will get back to you. About 45 days later the said the issue was resolved. I really hate to say it but QB is less expensive and i can do it in about 10 to 15 minutes where as Paylocity takes 20 to 25 minutes providing nothing goes wrong.

I would rate it zero if I could

I would rate it zero if I could. Mapping function is dismal; customer support and service are nonexistent. The reports I need are not customizable. They offer an Accountants' Partnership Program, and NO ONE will get back to you. They reach out to clients about problems that they misunderstood (even when emailed specifically). I can't believe they are so far behind Gusto and QuickBooks on all of the above. Forget finding the reports you want; they have hundreds, but so difficult to customize and get what's needed. They state "security" when you reach out to ask them about mapping, etc. (nothing about specific payroll that would require security) and make you jump through hoops because of it (like needing a 2nd person on a call, etc.). Dealing with Paylocity has been the most frustrating experience! I do not recommend AT ALL!

Really cant say enough bad things

Really cant say enough bad things. Onboarding was absolute hell. Would get 5 different answers for something until it finally worked, and even then it worked a couple of times then would have issues again. We still have 2-3 employees out of 10-15 not able to clock in every day. Every day there is a new issue. Time and labor is basically a whole different company from Payroll. Have to do everything twice when you make a change and then because of the horrible connections between the two modules something always goes wrong. I couldn't even finish writing this review without my team having another issue that required me to reach out to Paylocity

Unethical company with poor service.

Terrible company. They sell you on hassle free service. when we signed up they told us we could send in our payroll every month every month. when we sent the payroll in with fewer employees even though they were no longer with the company. When we finally got involved the website was difficult to navigate. There were also labor intense processes required to terminate the employees. The system does not make your life easier and seems to be designed to make it difficult to cancel the subscription service. Further they are helpful in the beginning but once your on board the service response times are very slow. Bottom line unethical company with poor service. Avoid at all cost.

Paylocity was down again

Paylocity was down (with a website message stating it was down) and had a link to check the status. The status page stated “Error: Unable to load applications” AND “All Systems Operational” at the same time. There was a link to email Paylocity. I did so. I received an automated email stating my email address was not an administrator, my email was not delivered, and I would receive no reply.

If I could select a negative number I…

If I could select a negative number I would. This service has been horrible. If you have an HR question it's this person, a payroll question, another person, a timesheet question, another person. Need international payroll, another person. Need a new state set up, well yep that would be another person. No sense of urgency, no phone number to call only email and don't count on a response the same day, I have to send reminders constantly. Really poorly run.

Federal Tax not withheld for 2024

My employer uses Paylocity, I brought my w2 to a tax professional, he said I had no federal tax withheld for the entire year 2024. After talking with our payroll person there is no indication that my deductions had changed. She is looking into it now.

Absolutely no contact with company.

I'm a former employee a company that use Paylocity for their payroll. Company goes under the water in last year and I have no contact with them. But I need my W2 form for 2024. So, company I work for does not exist, I have tried to contact with someone at Paylocity but...when I sent an email, they responded with phone #, when I call that number, they ask for former company ID (which doesn't exist) and generally zero communication with Paylocity. Problem is they the only ones who got my taxes form. This is super frustrating.

So many bugs and errors it ridiculous. My company requires training thru Paylocity and the traing is impossible to complete. It freezes with no way to advance. Because of their incompetence I now look bad because I can't complete the training and may lose my job now because the training is a requirement. Total fail

Was good but bow horrible

We have used Paylocity for 2 years and at first everything went great. About 10 months ago everything started to change. Our service has gone down hill and Paylocity has dropped the ball on a number of key items for our business. Our employees hate using the system for time tracking etc as it is never accurate. We have asked for numerous calls to fix this and other issues and still get the run around.
