This veterinary practice is awful

This veterinary practice is awful. They overcharge on prescriptions.
The receptionist was rude and unhelpful and more interested in talking with other staff about her private life and she made a comment about our dogs giving her a headache.
We weren't listened to or our opinions were shot down with patronising words.
We weren't kept in the loop about the records and they keep pushing the care plan on us. We asked for a breakdown on the care and prices but that got dismissed.
I wouldn't recommend this practice

I'm so upset

I'm so upset. I've been taking my cat to McMurtry & Harding for almost a decade. My parents have taken all their cats here also. Collectively we have spent tens of thousands of pounds over the years as we have had some very expensive pet health issues.

I call today to say my cat is poorly and needs to be looked at. I asked if they could invoice me and I can pay at the end of the month when I get paid. Being January its a tight month. This is in 9 days time.

I get a straight no. No sympathy, no understanding, no apparent concern for my cat.

I feel like all they are interested in is money.

I'm actually crying.

We agree with Delyth below

We agree with Delyth below. We have spent a fortune at this practice over the last few years and had a near identical experience with a seriously ill cat, who after spending several very expensive days in hospital at Pride, needed euthanasia and all our previous animals have had this service provided at home.

It's all about venture capitalists wanting the easy money and not caring about the owner or the pet when it's needed most. We have talked to several practices since and unfortunately this now seems to be the industry standard........with the exception of John Rosie from Belper. He came out and did what we and Beryl needed in the most sympathetic and kind way possible, out of hours, even though we weren't a client.

Incredibly disappointed

Incredibly disappointed. After 40+ years with the practice I feel completely let down. I rang to request that our failing, elderly dog be PTS. There are no longer out of hours care and support for ‘small’ animals. The only option is to drive them to Derby. He was struggling, he had lived his entire life on the farm and had never left it. At that time I was on my own, so how to get him in the car even ? In hindsight I should’ve lied and said it was one of the horses to get a vet here.
So his end was stressful for us, very emotional and totally unsupported by yourselves.
We are expecting a litter of puppies very soon which makes me nervous. I pray all will go well and that I am enough at the birth but one thing is for sure there will be no visit with them to get them vaccinated and microchipped . You aren’t getting easy money…..after all it’s about the money now. Sad times.

Can't praise this practice highly…

Can't praise this practice highly enough. Bella was treated by Michael recently for a potentially worrying condition. Medina battles away with Matt with her allergies & Tigger had his plumbing sorted out prior to that. Nothing is too much trouble, everything is explained & costs explained, options offered when available. Wonderful team, we wouldn't go anywhere else.

Attempting to claim money for meds I have neither ordered, nor received.

I have just returned home from a months holiday to find a letter from McMurtry and Harding in Ashbourne informing me that my account is seriously overdue, and that it is being escalatored a debt recovery process.
I am beyond livid, as this 'debt' is for medication that I neither ordered, nor received. I am expecting an apology for the distress that this has caused, particularly since I rang the Ashbourne office as soon as I received the original invoice and was told that it was a mistake. If they applied logic to this situation, they would see that I'd only recently ordered and paid for worming medication for my 2 dogs, so why they think I would order a worming medication that I've never ever previously used for just 1 of my dogs I'll never know. This isn't the first time an error of this type has occurred. After having my lab put to sleep last year, I paid the invoice immediately upon receipt. Several weeks later, I received a telephone call asking if I could pay the invoice. Further training is required in the admin department. I'm so furious, I will be taking my 2 dogs and new puppy elsewhere.

The Best

Everytime I have visted this vets they are super friendly, helpful and couldn't do more for your pet. In December my British Bulldog tried to kill himself by eating a huge amount of chocolate & without Dan's help he would not be here now. Can not recommend enough! Thank you x

Dreadful vets

Dreadful vets - took my dog, numerous inappropriate tests and medication which made her worse!
Hospitalisation to put right their wrongs ... and yes I had to pay for it! 😤
£780 later AND NO DIAGNOSIS 😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤
Second and third opinion - seasonal allergy - SIMPLE.
I WILL NEVER FORGIVE THEM FOR PUTTING MY POOR DOG THROUGH SUCH INVASIVE TESTS AND MEDICATION THAT MADE HER SO POORLY.
BE VERY CAREFUL
