I had a very disappointing experience with Fortis and would strongly advise other businesses to look elsewhere for merchant services.
Lack of Reliable Support: We needed quick, competent assistance — but instead, we faced very long response times, multiples holds, and unhelpful replies. Every request felt like it was being bounced around with no urgency or accountability.
Tokenization Failures: We relied on Fortis for secure token generation, and they consistently failed to deliver on this critical feature. The process was unreliable, slow, and technical support offered no real solutions. Availability to contact a helpful person was a major letdown.
Continued Charges After Account Cancellation: Even after we formally cancelled our account, we continued to see charges — without explanation. Reaching out to resolve this just led to more delays and evasive answers. This is unacceptable and feels like a deliberate attempt to squeeze more money from former customers.
Fortis’s service was unreliable when we needed it most, and their post-cancellation billing practices are incredibly unprofessional. If you value transparency, responsiveness, and dependable technical capabilities, look elsewhere.

They overcharge, have hidden fees and when you close the account they hit you for more money. Lie about the paperwork you signed to get free.

You made me call that number to cancel. Even after multiple emails asking to close the account. Then when it's closed you still charge me a extra month. I'll call but I doubt you will fix anything.

Not many answer their phones after the contract is signed, but Michael Lore has been there for us. Changing Point Of Sale companies is never easy. Michael found answers for all of our credit card processing questions.

I was mislead into believing I would only be charged a fee when I made a transaction however I discovered today that I am being charged a monthly PCI compliance fee that they never said would be charged. Having dealt with other processors this fee has never been passed onto the merchant directly. However Fortis has been charging me $45/month for not being "in compliance".
You have to explain to people what you are charging them for before you begin charging them.
They then pass me off to a PCI specialist that had no information about my case so all he could do is regurgitate what PCI is, and try to scare me into believing if ever there was a breach of data I would be personally responsible for. Considering I have an LLC and business insurance it was really unprofessional of him to utilize fear monger tactics.

Square, Stripe, and PayPal do not charge a PCI compliance fee. you could have mentioned that there would be a reoccurring charge during the sign up.
I want to add that I don't need to be PCI compliant, Fortis does as they are the ones handling and storing card information for transactions.
Cards are not handled or stored by us.
Fortis seems to be scamming small businesses by suggesting they need this if they're using Fortis POS app

This is the worse company ever. They get you signed up, and charge you for a service you can't use. I spent 2 months trying to get the credit card machine to accept payments. I never received ANYTHING! I kept getting the run around. Since I couldn't use the service for my business, I cancelled my account. I'm not gonna pay for something I can't use. Then I got an email saying I owed the $250 for early termination. I told them I wasn't going to pay that because I couldn't use it. NOW I'm getting harrassed saying that I owe the $350 or they'll ruin my credit. How the hell did they go up $100 for the same thing? They scam small businesses!!!!!!

I called and spoke with three different technical support reps, and none of them were able to help or seemed knowledgeable. I was just passed around, a case was opened, and I was told someone would call me. It’s been five days, and the issue still isn’t resolved

Missing over $66,000 dollars yes that’s 66 THOUSAND in credit card transactions that were never deposited from my business. Credit card slips say approved but then Fortis suddenly has no record of them. NONE of the money from these transactions were deposited in the last year .In one month there was $15,000 in revenue from cc transactions and maybe $50 was deposited but they were in small increments to make it appear as if the bank was getting batch settlements yet now they have stolen thousands of dollars from my business!! ABSOLUTELY WORST COMPANY!!!

Shea was a great help to me and my problem at work. I was able to get her on the phone without a 20 minute on hold period!! She answered right away, had knowledge of my company issue and even assisted me with additional questions. She send me additional info by email helped even more. This was all very much appreciated.

This cc processor is beyond terrible. They setup our account ahead of when we wanted it to go active and charged us the full 4 months and could never get all the fees fully refunded. They then took 3 months to cancel our account after a year of trying to use them and still haven't got those fees refunded. The customer service is ridicules and incredibly slow. Fees and monthly charges are high. We're a firearms business so there's much more limited options but even we were able to find someone else. Do no use Fortis under any circumstances. They are not about the customer at all.
