The Portugese branch is a thievery…

The Portugese branch is a thievery company !
Sneaky quotes and hidden fees !
They do not respect the quotes !
Avoid this company ! STAY AWAY !
On 25-th of july 2025 I've asked for a rental quote at your Portuguese department in Lisbon.
Price was 327.83 CAD and I took the " Refundable deductible with breakdown cover" for 9.18 CAD/day, Quote ID - QCA1375636.
Total price of the rental was 419.63 CAD offered by your supplier Movida. Two days later Auto Europe answered negative to my request telling me that Movida can not fulfill the promise quotation.
This is unacceptable !
I wrote on Trustpilot my bad experience and I hope you will be able to fix your relationship with your suppliers in order to avoid this kind of situations.

have rented with them many times and…

have rented with them many times and never had an issue, always a smooth process.

Often I use the coverage option that covers scratches (on the second booking step) and when we deliver the car back they see we have the coverage and its a super quick process to get the ok. I always rent in italy and vary between the more trusted rental companies to avoid issues - Locauto, Hertz and Europcar are our usual go to.

Rental was fine, price was good, service was bad

Rental was fine and price was good. The company failed to process my credit card details properly which has resulting in a 25 euro fine from Portugal's toll roads coming through several months later via a collections agency. Even after I informed Auto Europe that the card is still working properly they just ignored the problem, made no attempt to collect payment and passed the fine on to me which is many times higher than the original toll. Not exactly customer friendly

We booked the car rental service…

My husband- Akash Kukreja booked the car rental service through Auto europe. We reached to pick up the car from Tangerine car rental service only to find out that we cant pay deposit through the debit card and we were forced to buy the insurance of ~£289 to avoid the deposit payment. We were only carrying debit cards and amex as the credit card. The team in the office told us they can’t use AMex and cant accept any debit cards for the deposit amount. We had a 3 year old with us and had no option but to buy another insurance so that we dont have to pay the deposit.

This is criminal in our opinion and shrewd manipulation. They looted us and took advantage of the fact we had no where to go.

It’s nowhere mentioned in the voucher shared by the broker( autoeurope) that you don’t accept debit cards and amex credit card for deposit.

We have now paid two amounts for insurance, one locally of the amount£289 and another online through you.

We have now paid almost £400 just for insurance for a small hatchback.

We need urgent support and our money back for such a bad experience.

We would anyway rate you and provide our feedback across websites. Horrendous experience.

Thank you for your feedback. We take your concerns seriously. Regretfully, our car rental partner was unable to release the car to you due to the absence of the required credit card, as stipulated in the Terms & Conditions of your rental.

As per the information provided at the time of booking, our rental partner requires that a suitable credit card be presented at the time of pick-up. This card must be in the name of the main driver indicated in the voucher and have enough credit to cover the deposit amount. The PIN number is also necessary.

This is standard procedure with most car rental companies worldwide and, unfortunately, outside of Auto Europe’s control.
Unfortunately, we have not received a response via this platform, although we have tried to request additional information to investigate your case.

Even so, we would like to do everything in our power to make things right for you. Should you wish us to intervene on your behalf and contact the supplier, you can use the link below to reach out to our dedicated customer service team. The link will be available 24 hours after the end of the rental period on the voucher.

Hired car from Europcar at Faro Airport…

Hired car from Europcar at Faro Airport 5th February had paid for insurance in the UK but was told emphatically that was not adequate insurance and was forced to take extra insurance on a charge of 130 euros plus tax .On returning vehicle filled car up at Praia da Rocha and needed to top vehicle up at airport but as there is only one service station available it would have taken over an hour to get served so had no choice but to return car not filled up with an extra charge of 30 euros for doing it with Europcar (nice little earner) which I accepted but when I got charged later back in UK they had charged charged for extra insurance and also overcharged me £51 for petrol. Be warned..

I waited an hour in line to pick up the…

I waited an hour in line to pick up the electric car. When I got it, the range indicator showed 320 km, but after just 100 km, it dropped to 80 km remaining. I ended up stranded at night with no instructions on how to charge the car, and no one had mentioned that I’d need an app. The next day, I downloaded the app and loaded 20€ for charging.

When I returned to Lisbon and dropped off the car, I was charged an additional 37€ because the car wasn’t fully charged, despite having a charging invoice showing the mileage I drove.

To make things worse, my deposit still hasn’t been released five days after returning the car. Overall, a terrible experience.

Tenho usado a Autoeurope desde 2020 sempre muito satisfeito com o serviço que tenho tido. Quero no entanto realçar o excelente serviço que recebi da Sandra Amorim quando tive que tratar de um problema por cancelamento de uma reserva. A Sandra ouviu o meu problema, e solucionou sem demora. Durante o telefonema foi sempre extremamente profissional entendendo as minhas necessidades e certificando-se que eu tinha recebido por e-mail toda a correspondência. 5 estrelas para um excelente serviço da Sandra Amorim nos escritórios de Lisboa.

I have been using Autoeurope since 2020 and have always been very satisfied with the service I have received. However, I would like to highlight the excellent service I received from Sandra Amorim when I had to deal with a problem due to a cancellation of a reservation. Sandra listened to my problem and resolved it without delay. During the phone call she was always extremely professional, understanding my needs and making sure that I had received all correspondence by email. 5 stars for excellent service from Sandra Amorim in the Lisbon offices.

More than 8 hours without resolution and my trip is tomorrow

More than 8 hours after I made my reservation, I have received no status update via email, and it is still listed as ‘in budget.’ My trip is tomorrow, and I can’t cancel to try a different company. If the reservation isn’t fulfilled, I will need to try another company at the last minute and probably pay much more than I would have.

Reply and Update:

Just to be clear, I had one call where the person was very polite and asked me to check again later, and in case of no reservation, to call again.

I called again later at two different times and received a voice message that the lines weren’t available, asking me to go to the website and check the working hours.

My suggestion is that for urgent rentals (within 24 hours), you implement a procedure for all reservations where the status doesn’t update within 6 hours.

Also, this morning I called again and the situation was resolved. The attendant was very good.

Bad for me

(PT) Estou escrevendo para expressar minha profunda insatisfação com o serviço que recebi da "empresa". Em 19 de junho de 2024, aluguei um carro com o número de voucher EU21277641 e paguei pelo seguro de cancelamento flexível. Devido a um atraso no voo, entrei em contato imediatamente com a AutoEurope para cancelar a reserva. No entanto, a atendente, ávido por concluir a venda, me convenceu insistentemente a fazer outro aluguel, garantindo que seria mais barato para o período ajustado. Eu aceitei e fiz uma nova reserva com o número de voucher EU21312273, sob a garantia de que todas as condições, incluindo as políticas de cancelamento, permaneceriam as mesmas.

Infelizmente, ao tentar retirar o carro, tive problemas com meu cartão de crédito. Entrei em contato com sua equipe de suporte para cancelar a reserva, mas fui informado de forma rude que não poderia receber o reembolso porque o novo aluguel tinha políticas diferentes. Após uma revisão interna, que incluiu a escuta da minha conversa anterior com a atendente, foi concluída que eu não tinha direito de receber o segundo reembolso. Apesar disso, sabendo que eu tinha direito ao reembolso de ambos os vouchers, sua empresa decidiu reembolsar apenas um.

Minhas sugestões de melhoria são as seguintes:

Garanta que seus representantes de atendimento ao cliente estejam bem informados. Ficou claro que o representante que lidou com meu segundo aluguel não tinha o conhecimento necessário e teve que consultar colegas com frequência.
Treine sua equipe para tratar os clientes com respeito. O representante com quem lidei, quando liguei para solicitar "suporte" sobre o meu cartão de credito e pedir reembolso de ambos os vouchers, foi particularmente rude.
Este é meu primeiro pedido formal, e pretendo levar este assunto adiante. Tenho evidências para apoiar minhas reflexões e usarei todos os canais disponíveis para compartilhar minha experiência.

On June 19, 2024, I rented a car with voucher number EU21277641 and paid for flexible cancellation insurance. Due to a flight delay, I immediately contacted AutoEurope to cancel the reservation. However, the attendant, eager to complete the sale, insistently convinced me to make another rental, guaranteeing that it would be cheaper for the agreed period. I accepted and made a new reservation with voucher number EU21312273, under the assurance that all conditions, including cancellation policies, would remain the same.

Unfortunately, when trying to pick up the car, I had problems with my credit card. I contacted their support team to cancel the reservation but was rudely informed that I could not receive a refund because the new rental had different policies. After an internal review, which included listening to my previous conversation with the attendant, it was concluded that I was not entitled to receive the second refund. Despite this, knowing that I was entitled to a refund for both vouchers, your company decided to refund only one.

My suggestions for improvement are as follows:

Ensure your customer service representatives are well informed. It was clear that the representative who handled my second rental did not have the necessary knowledge and had to consult colleagues frequently.
Train your staff to treat customers with respect. The representative I dealt with, when I called to request "support" regarding my credit card and request a refund for both vouchers, was particularly rude.
This is my first formal request, and I intend to take this matter further. I have evidence to support my reflections and will use all available channels to share my experience.

Absolute joke

Absolute joke, from the online payment system to collecting the car I have never met such a rude, unhelpful, unclear and low quality product. Do not waste your money on this bunch of clowns. I can’t believe how a member of their team spoke to me. Spend a bit more money and get a proper car hire company. Ruined the start of my holiday.
