Expensive and time consuming lesson.

I rang to hire a van from the Scunthorpe branch.First issue was someone has to physically be at the premises to reserve.Living some miles away I had to get a friend to go down.Other than literally standing in reception he played no part.I paid deposit on my card. This silly rule easily overcome by allowing people to reserve and pay deposit remotely on the understanding that should they not produce licence and relevant I.d. they forfeit part of the deposit as they prevented the vehicle being hired to someone else.Anyway having paid £250 deposit I went down a few days later to pick up the van.To be fair all staff from reception to the guy handing me the keys and pointing out previous damage were friendly and helpful. The van itself was rough for relatively new, noisy in the cabin and not much fun to drive, but as I only wanted it a few hours did not concern me.On returning some strange error led to me being charged a further £250 rather than being refunded my initial deposit.I was told the card machine provider would be informed and the issue sorted. At this stage I am £500 out of pocket.Zero contact from this firm and weekend so following week I make contact.I am told the issue will take up to 72 hours to resolve.Well here I am almost a full week later and no resolution. The second payment is ‘pending’ in my bank preventing my access to it and according to my bank will be released back to me if unclaimed by midnight tomorrow (over 7 days from hiring the van). The first payment whilst undisputed by the hire firm will not be refunded until they know the outcome of the second payment! It is all the card payment operators fault and definitely not the hire firm as I am assured by the hire firm lol.Basically with various phone calls and messing around I have devoted more time to trying to recoup my deposit than I did driving the van I hired.Ridiculous situation and a ridiculous firm.As I pointed out on the phone several minutes ago would they be so laid back if the situation was reversed and I owed them £500? I very much doubt it.

Excellent spares department/after sales experience.

A spring failed on my wood burning stove door latch.A trivial issue, but a safety concern as it opened too easily obviously risking fire not being contained. An online search took me to Charlton & Jenricks trade spares site which is inaccessible to non trade it seems.Searching their main site I found the spares enquiry email which appears by clicking ‘contact us’ at the base of the page. This could be more prominent or a ‘spares’ header placed on the main web page, but otherwise everything was excellent from then onwards.I emailed that evening to enquire if the springs were available and at what cost.A polite and helpful response received early next morning to confirm yes.Several to and fro mails all very prompt to address payment details (bacs) and my parts are en route.Sadly the person/persons I dealt with provided no name so credit for their quick, helpful and polite service will have to go to the entire spares department. As for the stove itself I am just over a year in and having mastered it’s correct use I am extremely impressed.Correct use minimises glass cleaning which was an initial concern.High temperature adhesives, cement boards and porcelain tiles have cured plaster cracking where the, in my case external flue enters the chimney breast.Heat output is fantastic.Residue is minimal.Looks are fantastic (PVR Cylinder model) and all visitors to the house are impressed. From my experience so far a great firm, great products and an excellent post sales experience.

Honest,friendly,efficient….Perfect!

I have just received a parcel from this store and decided to write a long overdue review.
Tracy the owner and everyone I have dealt with in the store previously have always been really polite and friendly.Prices of items I am interested in,whether buying or selling (I have done both with them over the past ten years) are always the best I can find and they beat the ‘big boys’ hands down.
Buying online is simple and efficient and anything I have ordered always arrived next day registered, well packaged, and exactly as listed on their site.
The Chapel Jewellers is a credit to their industry and unlike many others do not operate on excessive premiums and mark ups which is refreshing nowadays. They also never asked for a review or spammed my email for one which again is a novelty currently.
To sum up.A great store staffed by great people.Immediate parking is not the best and about the only ‘gripe’ I can come up with. That said a little walk and fresh air never hurt at my age!

A very fast efficient and helpful company.

From my limited experience with them I would say an excellent company. If you are willing to pay a little extra then a late evening order will arrive the next day which when a washing/drying appliance dies on you is much appreciated.I am fairly practical, but even a novice could watch the ‘how to’ videos they provide and complete the repair easily. My one gripe is initially I couldn’t find my fairly standard model Hotpoint drier. It took an ‘error’ putting a lower case letter into product code search to find it so it seems some product codes are listed upper case and some lower despite from my
experience the machine label being all upper case. Two bits of advise if you use eSpares.co.uk.Firstly do sign up for an account. It makes returns easier if nothing else.I initially ordered the wrong part and had to mail them for a returns number which to their credit arrived fairly promptly.Had I opened an account it would have been instant.Secondly when stripping a machine for repair note the different screw lengths and which hole they relate to.It is important and they are different lengths for a reason! Overall an excellent firm and every bit as useful/efficient as the parent company (Screwfix if I am correct).

I have been asked to review a company…

I have been asked to review a company based on filing a warranty registration for one of their products or so it seems! Well the warranty registration was simple and straightforward online and website seems well put together. The stove I purchased through one of their suppliers looks fantastic and the build quality is good.My dealings directly with the company are non existent save the previously mentioned warranty registration so I can’t comment on them. The four stars rather than five is more about the product and even this rating is mildly unfair as each stove installation is different so maybe it isn’t entirely down to the stove itself.Without comparison who would know.I bought the PVR cylinder model which looks superb, provides plenty of heat and burns very efficiently leaving little residue. The down side is if burning smokeless fuel rather than wood the substantial glass (the entire point of this model) blackens quickly to a point of almost zero visibility.Opening the door no matter how slowly and gently results in some level of fume/ash release. The glass can be permanently marked by some smokeless fuels (no specifics mentioned) according to the manual and this occurrence is not covered under warranty. It is recommended (again from the manual) not to mix wood and smokeless fuels on the same burn with a legitimate reason given.Overall I am very happy with the product. My main gripes are I don’t recall any information in the sales literature warning of the drawbacks/limitations of smokeless use and wood burns relatively quickly hence my desire for a multi fuel version. The maintenance (cleaning the glass specifically) is greater than expected and even wood soots it up to a degree. This happens with correctly sourced ‘kiln dried’ wood.Obviously unless stored and delivered under perfect conditions (not happening in the real world) the kiln dried effect is invalid as immediately upon exposure to normal environments the wood will begin to absorb some level of moisture from the atmosphere. This absolves the stove manufacturer in some ways, but then if a product is designed to work with only perfect fuels not realistic to acquire then I would argue it is not fit for purpose. To sum up the stove was a good buy.Looks great, warms well and with a little shopping around will save on heating bills (I was previously entirely gas heating).Just be prepared for a little more work than you’d anticipated. As mentioned previously the build quality seems very good too.

Hi Terry,
Thank you for your review, we are pleased to hear you are enjoying your new stove.

Unfortunately, all smokeless fuels can stain the glass, this can occur on one batch of glass or fuel and not another and there is nothing we or any other stove manufacturer can do to prevent this.

On all of our stoves, we recommend opening the door ajar and holding it there for 10 seconds before continuing to open. This should stop any ash release.

We do include some information on the negatives of solid fuel in page 6 of our Purevision brochure, however we will look into other ways of informing customers of this in the instances they are not given a brochure.

Kiln dried wood is very resilient, and if stored in any well-ventilated dry area will be more than suitable. A moisture meter will allow you to get an exact reading of the moisture of your wood.

Hopefully the above comments answer some of your questions, and we hope you continue to enjoy your stove for many years to come.
