I am very disappointed with this company.
They have been taking extra money from my account every month under the name of “insurance”, even though I never agreed to or signed up for any insurance plan.

My contract was only for an iPhone with a fixed monthly payment, but they started to take an extra £50 each month, claiming it was for insurance. This was done without my permission or any explanation.

I contacted customer service several times, but nothing was resolved and the deductions continued. This behaviour is unfair, misleading, and unacceptable.

I will be making a formal complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service about these unauthorised charges.
Please be very careful before signing any agreement with this company and check your bank account regularly.

CEL Solicitors’ advertisements give the impression that they fight hard for justice and help victims of fraud — but the truth is very different.



I would like to share my honest and complete feedback about my experience with CEL Solicitors.

When you first contact them, their automated message confidently says things like “We win cases” and “Justice will be served”.
Unfortunately, in my experience, this is only marketing talk, not the reality.

After more than six months of waiting and communication, the total amount recovered from my £50,000 fraud loss was only about £4,650.
However, CEL Solicitors did not inform me before receiving this refund from the bank.
They took the money directly without my consent, and later told me that they would only pay me £2,000 out of the total — keeping around 60% for themselves.

This was done without transparency or clear explanation, and I was shocked to find out about it after the fact.
The amount I received is extremely small and meaningless compared to my £50,000 loss and does nothing to help with my financial hardship.

The company’s actions and communication were unprofessional, incomplete, and misleading.
I lost my trust completely because I was never updated properly, important details were hidden, and I felt like my case was handled with little care or respect.

CEL Solicitors’ advertisements give the impression that they fight hard for justice and help victims of fraud —

They take a large portion of the recovered money for themselves, while clients are left with very little.

This experience has been deeply disappointing and frustrating, and I sincerely hope my feedback helps others to be cautious before trusting such promises.

I am very disappointed with this…

I am very disappointed with this company. I have sent many emails asking them to correct my DVLA address, but nobody has ever replied. Because of this mistake, I have received many fines late and had to pay much higher amounts.

Also, they overcharged my direct debit – instead of £560, they took £1,090 this month. This is unacceptable.

This company takes no responsibility for its customers and does not even answer a single email. It has caused me a lot of stress, and I cannot recommend them at all.

Warning

Warning: Issues with First Central Insurance

Unexpected cancellation and credit reporting: I was shocked that First Central Insurance abruptly cancelled my policy on March 13 without any reminder or contact. I had arranged monthly payments, but received no warning before the cancellation. To make matters worse, by March 14 they had already reported the missed payment to a credit agency, immediately damaging my credit score. First Central’s own privacy notice even states they “record defaulted payments on your credit report” , and that if you pay by Direct Debit any outstanding debt can be shared with credit agencies for up to six years . In other words, they warn customers that missed payments will hurt your credit – and unfortunately that’s exactly what happened to me overnight.

Surprise fees: I was then hit with a £37 cancellation fee with no prior warning. According to their published fee schedule, the normal cancellation fee (after the first 14-day period) is only £10 . I don’t know why it was £37 in my case, but it was clearly not communicated in advance. This extra charge appeared without explanation and added to the financial stress. I am now struggling to pay this unexpected fee and correct the credit record.

Key Issues to Note
• No prior notice: I received no email, letter or phone call about the missed payment before my policy was cancelled. The company simply cancelled coverage on March 13 as soon as a payment issue occurred.
• Immediate credit reporting: They reported the missed payment to a credit bureau the very next day. First Central’s own policy says if you default on a Direct Debit they may share details and the debt stays on file for 6 years . This meant my credit rating took an immediate hit long before I even knew there was a problem.
• Hidden charges: I was charged a £37 cancellation fee without warning. (For comparison, their official fees say a post-14-day cancellation fee is £10 .) This extra charge was never explained, which felt unfair given that no notice was given.

Final Advice for Others

My experience has been extremely frustrating. First Central’s lack of communication and quick credit reporting have caused me real financial harm. I’m writing this review to warn others: be very cautious with First Central Insurance. Always double-check your payment status and read all the terms carefully. Monitor your bank and credit report closely if you do business with them, because they will mark defaults and apply fees without much notice  . Consider other insurers that handle payment issues more openly and don’t spring surprise cancellations or fees on their customers. Be aware that any missed payment can stay on your credit file for years with this company, so choose wisely.

Salamata designer is absolutely very…

Salamata designer is absolutely very unprofessional. She did not confirm anything about her design to us, my customer did not confirm anything about her kitchen design. The material was not delivered on time several times and it delayed our work for weeks. They couldn’t even fix the worktop, they broke the worktop one time, second time they made the mistake. We lost 1 month in this kitchen because of the bad management and the designer did not know anything about the design. Some material was already damaged in the package and they didn’t want to replace it. I will never use this company again.

I’m with Checkatrade for more than 7…

I’m with Checkatrade for more than 7 years. It became an absolutely dodgy company. I just received a negative feedback from someone, not even my customer, I never worked for him, his feedback was based on racism and discrimination. Checkatrade changed his comment to something looking normal, but it’s damaging the reputation of my company, as now anybody who sees this feedback, doesn’t know that it was based on discrimination and racism, someone just wrote hateful feedback towards my company based on racism. Nothing to do with the quality of my company or work. And I also did reply with a comment to that feedback, but they did not publish my comment - reply. I will complain to further authorities and organisations about them. They call themselves Checkatrade but they need some inspection to check Checkatrade actually. I’m paying more than £8000 year even no job coming from checkatread and them self allowing someone, who is not even my customer, to write nonsense about me and my company, is unacceptable and unfair, it’s damaging my business. And also, Checkatrade took extra money without confirming and my permission from my bank account in one day £600 3 payments in one day for Directory, that I never asked them to do this extra advertisement and it was completely useless for my business.don’t waste your money in this company just headache nothing else.👎

the only problem with checkatrade is…

the only problem with checkatrade is when a difficult or disrespectful customer leaves an unfair feedback for the trademan , they don't protect the trademan from a negative feedback. The score goes very down for only one negative feedback and when you receive another 5 excellent scores, it doesn't go back up quickly. I have been a checkatrade customer for more than 7 years and I am not happy with this issue. They need to change it. And protect their clients much more from abusive customers. I'm not talking about normal customers who can sometimes have different opinions on tradesmen, which is fine. I'm talking about really disrespectful and difficult customers who also often don't want to pay, so they make up some problems. The Checkatrade trademen should be protected from such cowboy customers.
