Writing is good but business model sucks!!!

The journalism is for the most part outstanding. Their access to their content is wonky & unreliable.

It’s VERY apparent they want you to subscribe & auto-renew. Before signing up, this is accepting cookies, multiple email sign-up opportunities and repeated trial subscription offers.

The minute you turn off the auto-renewal function on your subscription (not easy & can’t be done thru account settings), the relationship decidedly shifts to the negative.

There is no password reset option. Requests go nowhere. Then, you use a Google or FB login to access their articles. They were sending daily emails with featured articles but those stopped coming with ~ 3 months left to the subscription.

The communication I received frequently were ‘unbelievable’, low 3 month trial offers, inducing me to subscribe (& sign up for auto-renew, which is hard to cancel).

I wrote the company as the subscription was coming to an end, telling them it was hard to threaten to deny a benefit I hadn’t been receiving.

I never heard back and the last email came a couple of weeks later, saying the subscription had ended. Good writing with exceptional long-form, opinion analysis but the operational part of the business SUCKS!

A GONG SHOW!!!

An ALL capitals…GONG SHOW!!!

I just went to this website for the first time. An out of print book is unavailable on the Internet Archive and Amazon wants an exorbitant price to buy a used copy.

You can’t get through one page without MULTIPLE X 10 second ad-waiting period. The minute you scroll to the next page, immediately an ad served up with another 10 second waiting period. The website is GLITCHY and the free preview offers a substandard experience.

ALL intended to induce a trial subscription. From the overwhelming MAJORITY OF 1-star reviews here, that option is WORSE!

One HUGE, GIGANTIC DOWNSIDE with ANY subscription, free or not…YOU WON’T RECEIVE EXPECTED VALUE!!!

And you can’t cancel a subscription! Add INJURY to insult, as they will perpetually charge one’s credit card, after they promise to cancel.

GOOD LUCK WITH THE CRAPPY & CUSTOMER-ABUSIVE BUSINESS MODEL.

Review of GoDaddy

GoDaddy specializes in the crappiest of service

I have been a long-time GoDaddy customer. Never really had any issues BUT should you have an issue, it is a NIGHTMARE to resolve.

You can put on hold for over an hour, then we you do speak to someone, they're typically in a developing country and it sounds like they read off a script.

It will take a few attempts for them to understand your issue, then they endlessly put you back on hold, so their supervisor can tell them what to say. Then they will open a ticket, which essentially goes nowhere.

What GoDaddy is prompt about, billing and sending feedback questionnaires about unresolved issues. The latest system-wide issue is Apple iPhone integration with MS Office 365. After being told to delete the email account, they have no resolution.

Update to initial review: It took me just over a month with good technical support BUT I'm finally FREE of Go Daddy.
I took my business to another company with better support who is also significantly less expensive. Their customer service agents are located in North America!!!

For those checking reviews in anticipation of doing business with Go Daddy, consider other fine alternatives. It doesn't get better after you buy a service, and the experience degrades exponentially the longer you stay with them. Good Luck!

Worthy and deserving of…

Worthy and deserving of a 5 star review? The last time I purchased Izzy Miyake in a 100 ml bottle was at duty-free on a cruise before the Covid pandemic.

When I went looking to buy a replacement bottle, everywhere was double the price, including duty-free which was actually higher than local retail outlets (with the exchange rate).

After hemming & hawing about the price, I decided to check out online sources. Initially, I landed on another website and went to check-out but their customer reviews were uninspiring.

Then I found Perfume Online who has an outstanding reputation on TrustPilot.

I expected to receive a tester bottle for the price offered, which was half of what it would be at a drug store. My expectations were exceeded!!!

I received a new bottle, still in a sealed and original box, wrapped in bubble wrap (the protection fee) within a couple days of placing the order.

If a deal seems too good to be true, we’re told only a fool would fall for it. In the case of Perfumes Online, you can trust the reviews.

Growing Trust when it’s needed most

I love this platform and have said so in reviews. An advocate of the collective wisdom in paying a hard lesson forward for the benefit of saving another from heartache.

In some cases, I’ve researched companies after deciding to leave a brand relationship and the collective wisdom is always true and aligned with my experience.

Keep up the good work! You haven’t let down yet but companies who can grow trust post-COVID has diminished substantially, hence the growing need for your valuable service.

Review of SiriusXM

Sirius XM sucks!!

Sirius XM sucks!!! Old business model, more relevant before Covid when more people commuted to work. The most egregious operating practices of this “business” are AGGRESSIVE marketing and NEGATIVE billing.

If you buy a vehicle that comes with their free trial, you’ll learn how it feels. And whatever you do, don’t provide a credit card number - it’s too much damn temptation, to charge indiscriminately, any time they want, years later, after you’ve cancelled and informed the card company not to authorize ANY charges from Sirius XM. NOTHING, EVER!

Today, it was another ~ $600 subscription for a car we traded 8 years ago! After having the same conversation and blocking transactions, 3 years ago. And that was FIVE years after we no longer had the car!

NO service is worth ongoing abuse and aggravation, that will be unleashed upon you.
Pity the people without options, who promote and support dishonest, Your-money-is-the-ONLY-thing-we-care-about-publicly-traded-companies!

Worst Business Credit Card

I have been loyal to MCU for a long time & set up my business account with them 5 years ago. I haven’t had any real issues other than exceptional holds (10 days) even with cheques from other members.

Here’s the BUT, they have one of the worst credit cards on the market. They charge an international exchange fee for every transaction! That means if you purchase something online from a U.S. company, you are charged a separate fee of $ 4 - $ 8 on top of the exchange rate.

I purchased a $280 item, which I ended up returning & they charged me $14 in fees! I will not be using this card again and if the fees are reimbursed, I’ll be moving all my business. I wouldn’t have expected nickel and diming, hidden fees from Ontario largest credit union. Another beloved brand appears to be headed towards biting the dusk.

It's about fair market value

I’ve had a managed business WP website with Go Daddy since 2018 and generally happy with the service. Some may say brand loyal, until I received the auto-renewal for the SSL certificate this week. It’s increased eye-popping 40% in the last two years.

Go Daddy provides zero notice of these increases, except at the time of the renewal, which bills 60 days in advance. The company must be having difficulty attracting and keeping qualified support staff because now it sounds like they read off a script repeating the same phrases. You get off the phone MORE frustrated than before you called!

I'm providing an update to my initial review. To resolve an issue that couldn't complete online, I called into customer service. During this engagement, I received the service I've come to associate with Go Daddy customer support.

While I'm not happy with the prices increases without warning, I appreciate that I'm paying fair market value for the service provided.

I love Trustpilot

I love Trustpilot. Using this service is a part of my consumer identity. The value is the collective wisdom of real people sharing their experience with companies. It helps all of us to support the good we want to see more of in the world.

It also helps us not reward bad behaviour. We can learn the hard lesson learned by someone else and avoid spending money with bad actors.

Keep up the exceptional commitment to maintaining a fair and equitable marketplace. I love your platform, from beginning to end.

Review of lunchclub.ai

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

At the end, Lunchclub sucks

Lunchclub is an invite only, AI-enabled professional networking, scheduled video call platform. A colleague invited me to try it out.

At the beginning, it provided exceptional value for time invested. I was meeting quality businesspeople that I wouldn’t typically meet. It made me wonder about the business model because it’s free.

Turns out it’s VC-backed by Robinhood & Clubhouse investors. The networking is to build behavioural data sets to train the Artificial Intelligence.

People who were early adopters of the networking opportunities have seen the most benefit. Now it’s a law of diminishing returns when people do grace an audience for the call. Almost half will flake out and cancel on short notice or ghost the call altogether.

As a tell it’s becoming mediocre as more people join, a phoney, sales-y business person I met a few years ago just joined. It’s going to seed, if it hasn’t already.

2 stars is for the value I received and the overall satisfaction with the service. A true lesson in customer experience, it doesn’t matter how good it was, what people remember is their last interaction, which sucked.

Taking advantage with false expectations

This is a horrible survey experience. The time indicated to complete diverts widely from reality. It is says 15 minutes, it’ll be 30 minutes for 60 points. You need 500 points for a $5 Amazon gift certificate and conservatively about 4 hours of time invested. It’s clear who makes the money here.

As the other reviews indicate, there are no guarantees, the site is glitchy. Way too much work for the value exchange being offered. Just deleted the account and posted this TP feedback.

Get Permission from Everyone in your HH

The compensation for these surveys is pitiful. You need 500 points for a $5 payout. A 5 minute survey equates to 50 points. It’s not worth the effort required for extremely low compensation. It’s than a third of the minimum wage amount and appears exploitive.

Also they request opt-in consent that you’ve discussed participation with every member of your household. That was enough to abandon this prospective venture.

Spiritual Beard for value-extracting Greed

I would give this offensive web app. zero stars if I could. A few years ago I was invited to a free 21 day meditation challenge by a client. Now they email me shucking and pitching expensive meditation retreats!

I’ve used the unsubscribe link, replied to the emails and block the email address and the SPAM comes like clockwork. Today I registered a complaint with the CRTC under CASL.

I’ve read Deepak Chopra’s books and respected the brand. Now that’s over and it prompted this negative review. There should be special censor for bad actors who use spiritual beards to hide their greedy, value-extraction motives.

Suck it up or Move on

I’ve been loyal member of Linked In since I was invited by a colleague in Boston to join a new networking site in 2005. Of course I was concerned when Microsoft bought them that the experience would change. Not much really or so I thought.

As other reviews indicate, the real issue is with the lack of customer service. You’re only recourse is to communicate thru live chat and if the issue is “too complicated”, that is anything that isn’t covered in the FAQs or scripted, you’re at their mercy.

They make ever interaction friction-filled and prohibitively difficult. It must be to discourage people from reaching out. They ask for more and more information to resolve the issue and then ghost you for days. They act every bit the monopoly with the dismissive attitude of suck it up or move on.

They do NOT care about the member experience because it’s a cash cow of value MS hovers up like pigs at a trough.

Unfortunately this latest issue about registering my business tax number has really soured my attitude. One thing is assured, as bad as it is now it will get worse. Maybe it’s time to cut my losses and move on.

Beware of Crappy Tech Business Model

Re: Trust Pilot, I love this platform. I was an early adopter of the value of the collective wisdom of paying forward the hard lesson learned.

For Seamless.ai: This company has been on my radar for a while as I'm always looking for good B2B list sources.

It's not bad enough that this is a pump and dump, lock you down, crappy tech business but they claim to be better than Zoom.info, which has never spammed me and respected my RIGHT to be removed from their database. Zoom info is expensive because it's the best that's available. It has a solid track record of customer retention.

NOT a series of people COMPLAINING about deceptive sales practices and THE bait and switch. They even have nearly two dozen BBB reviews confirming the same experience as TrustPilot. Buyer beware. What seems to be TOO good an opportunity is a THEIR transaction with significant back-loaded repercussions for YOU.

Bend over and cough

Pure boiler room, high pressure sales tactics intended to extract maximum value before you realize its a rip-off. You aren't able to test drive the service without speaking to a "Director" and making a commitment.

There is NO free trial because you’re providing access to your internal contact database via an app, which means your internal network is monetized. Better served with a Linked In premium subscription, which is backed by MS and privacy-compliant.

Deceptive Marketing Practices

This is a bait switch website. I GOOGLED free trademark search, which brought me to this website. They have a search bar to enter the trademark name with a submit key.

It brings you to a series of web forms requesting information. It's a lead capture mechanism. You likely won't receive the information you want but you will open yourself up to “pipeline management”. That is, how quickly will you close. It’s deceptive marketing at its finest.

With respect to positive reviews, I’m suspicious of 5 star reviews where the person has 1 review. Trustpilot is now indicating if the review was an invitation.

Transparent disclosure would dictate that people know upfront that the free trade mark search is conditional upon sales rep qualification who then decides whether they receive the free offer. Present it as a discretionary offer but we both know that won’t solicit the same response!

Please understand that the Free Trademark Search offered on our website is genuinely free and real. A proper trademark search requires a professional that understands the trademark law and how your business work to provide real value. This is also clearly indicated on our submission form that you are receiving a "Detailed manual search by a Professional Trademark Consultant" for Free. Essential information such as trademark name and a way to contact is required for our professional to reach out and understand about your business before a true search can be done.

This is an unfair negative review, we were never given the opportunity to explain the actual process. We have removed all of your contact information from our database as per your request. Our record of positive reviews from our past customers speaks itself and shows that we are a company that delivers real value.

Bad business practices exploit sellers

Now that this company is publicly traded and under pressure by stockholders to drive growth, you’ll see an acceleration of their bad business practices. Just another green-wash traditional exploitation under the guise of bringing an innovative service to market. BS, it’s another bunch of great crooks looking to pump and dump and hopefully without getting caught.

Check out other reviews. They have hundreds of complaints on the Better Business Bureau. We need to support good operators to survive CV-19. Buyer beware, it’s not IF but WHEN this company screws you. It’s baked into their formula!

Prospecting outreach...epic fail!

I received an outreach from a Client Strategy lead that was disingenuous and self-serving. I kindly provided feedback on a better approach with higher message effectiveness. Of course, I heard nothing back. That prompted me to check out their reviews. As I suspected, there’s social proof of their self-interested orientation and shill tactics. There’s too much competition to deal with companies who don’t care about your time. As a rule, if they don’t show love when prospecting you, it’s a strong indication that you’ll get worse treatment when you become a customer. Only then they have your time and money!

I also suspect that many of the 5 star reviews are internally motivated. Who leaves a 5 star review with the only text: Great customer service when all the 1 star reviews indicate the opposite. Another sign of fake reviews is many are from people that have only written one review for Shift.
