Terrible Customer Service Policies
I placed an order for a jacket at 11:34 p.m. After I placed the order, I realized that if I signed up for the membership I could have gotten 15% off as well as free shipping. So, I quickly joined and then responded to my confirmation email 11 minutes later, asking to cancel the order OR if they would honor the 15% and free shipping to my current order.
My response email bounced back, so I went to the chat box on their website. Since it was after hours, I had to talk with an AI rep. The AI told me I could not cancel the order. (It had been 15 minutes.)
The first thing I did the next morning was reach out via chat again to talk to a live agent. I explained the situation and he told me couldn't cancel the order. But I could return it once I received it for a $6 fee. So, with the $9 shipping, it'd be $15.
Or if I waited THIRTY DAYS, I'd receive another discount code for 25%. Then I could return the jacket and repurchase it.
I was still so frustrated, that I decided to call an agent. This agent was even less helpful and accommodating. I was told once again that, even though it had been less than 24 hours, they couldn't cancel the order. And what was even more aggravating, this agent told me that if I had called within 15 minutes after placing my order, it could have been canceled.
First of all, 15 minutes?! What? That's absurd. But even more frustrating, I DID try to cancel the order within 15 minutes. I have the time-stamped email response to prove it. She then told me I should have called a live rep. Um... it was 11:34 p.m. PT, so that wasn't an option.
I've had this exact scenario with other companies and other companies have been quick and accommodating to this situation. They've been happy to issue a refund. But now seeing all the other Trust Pilot reviews, I understand I'm not alone in my frustration.
I hope Columbia will do better in the future. Not only will I be returning that jacket, but I will also avoid buying any Columbia products in the future.
