Deplorable aftercare and customer service
I have been waiting almost a fortnight for assistance with a designer handbag that demonstrated a fault one-and-a-half months after purchase. Net-A-Porter's aftercare and customer service, which would be poor coming from any company, is deplorable and inexcusable from a luxury retail platform
I bought a Toteme belted bucket bag in early June. Roughly one-and-a-half months later on 24 July, one of the belted ends came out of the metallic clasp, so I immediately contacted Net-A-Porter with the details and a video of the problem, clearly showing that the belted end had come loose and not been torn out. During the course of almost a fortnight and four e-mails and three telephone calls to Customer Services later, I have received zero constructive assistance other than being told that my case is being looked into
I also e-mailed the Feedback team on 29 July; no response. And when I rang today and asked to speak to a manager, none was available
By way of context, the relevant part of the French Consumer Code (Section 2 : Garantie légale de conformité (Articles L217-3 à L217-20)) under which I bought the bag from Net-A-Porter in France notes, among other things, that any fault that develops within 24 months of receipt is automatically assumed to have existed from the start unless proven otherwise. In the absence of tear marks to the belted end, the fault clearly lies with the bag and I should have long been offered a repair, replacement, or refund. Instead, I am stuck with a designer bag that I cannot use because in gaping open not only does it offer a fantastic opportunity to passing thieves, but is also at risk of being dirtied (it is a very pale cream suede) because it inevitably brushes against things
I have used Net-A-Porter for several years, am a Silver Rewards member, and a so-called Insider. In the latter capacity, I offer this feedback: what demonstrates a really good business is not how it behaves under normal or ideal conditions, but how it behaves when things go wrong. And on that basis, Net-A-Porter is a very poor business indeed
