Cautionary tale
Cautionary tale:
I have been a Mytheresa customer for quite a while. Sometimes I kept what I ordered, sometimes I sent the ordered items back because i didn't like them, they didn't fit or Mytheresa sent the wrong size - e.g. a Max Mara technical coat that i received in 2 sizes: XS & XL, instead of XS and S.
Roll on 2025.
I placed an order in excess or CHF1'000, paid by Mastercard. The next day I received a notification that my order was blocked and I was asked to pay , if still interested in ordering, by bank transfer! I assumed the email was fraudulent so I contacted Mytheresa customer service. After a couple of emails I found out that my order was blocked because of excessive returns.
Basically, I am an unwanted customer.
So I searched and discovered that Mytheresa.io has a proud overall rating of 1.8 out of 5, and a review after review cites excessive returns policy - some long standing customers who spent thousands over the years.
I am not sure what Mytheresa is trying to achieve.
The purpose of online shopping is convenience: order, try, keep/return.
If cost of returns is a problem, it should not be offered for free. I am sure customers would be happy to pay and deliveries/returns would keep couriers and freight companies in business too.
Mytheresa is well within their rights to refuse customers, although their stealth practice of "wire transfer" is akin to being escorted out of a shop, which in case of a web retailer is bizarre and not exactly ethical. Environmental impact was mentioned too - that must be alleviated by the wire transfer.
That's it. Never again, Mytheresa.
Update 14 January 2025:
Mytheresa generic answer speaks for itself.
However, Mytheresa may find that exactly this treatment of customers is discriminatory, possibly in breach of EU e-commerce rules, as all customers must be provided with equal conditions of sale, which, in my opinion, would preclude selective withdrawal of payment methods.
