I've been a tutor on FirstTutors for about 4 years. Since its main competitor got greedy 2 years ago, FirstTutors has become my main point of contact for new students. I particularly like their charging system - a one-off finders fee which is roughly equivalent to one lesson, whereas the other site insisted on taking a cut of about 25% indefinitely.

As a private tutor I find this site straightforward to use, and for prospective students it is easy to discuss with me (for free) how it might work out to engage me, and then - if we have come to an agreement - it is both simple and good value for them to pay the reasonable finder's fee and progress to direct communication without any further involvement from Firsttutors. Unlike the other sites I have used, all of whom add a mark up to my fee, sometimes a significant mark up, which makes my fee appear too high.

Writing as a tutor, Superprof works fine but has rather limited functionality compared with other such sites. In particular, you can't list different prices for different subjects. Nevertheless it has resulted in me being contacted by a student who has chosen to use my services, so I'm happy.

They responded promptly to my requests, and did what they said they would do, when they said they would do it. A real pleasure to do business with :)

Simple and easy

Not only were they good value but they gave remarkably good customer service too... I messed them around by ordering the wrong size but they took it in their stride and supplied the right size very quickly at a different location and didn't penalise me for my mistake. I will certainly be using them again

Great prices but a LOT of hassle to get there. And when I had a problem with the online booking and phoned the number they gave, the people I then spoke to said it would cost an extra £50 because 'all the seats have now been booked at the old price'. And I was given that story by several of them. It wasn't true, once I had got my payment sorted with my bank I was able to book online at the original price. So don't get taken in by the **** that the call handlers come out with.

The 12" square canvas prints were very good value at £7 and pretty reasonable quality too - good enough I'm getting another batch together. Postage at £10 is on the steep side but not bad if you order a fair few.
