Had to use an Osprey charger briefly…Exorbitant pricing – avoid if you can

Had to use an Osprey charger briefly while out of town, and was shocked by how expensive it was for just a few minutes of charging. The cost per kWh is far higher than most other networks, making it really poor value. The charger worked, but given the prices, I’ll definitely avoid Osprey in future unless there’s absolutely no alternative.

Hi there,
Thanks for taking the time to share this — and I’m sorry your experience left you feeling it wasn’t good value.
Rapid DC public charging does cost more than home charging because it includes the expense of high-power hardware, grid capacity, site rental and maintenance, payment processing, and 20% VAT (home energy is 5%). The current industry average is around 82p/kWh, and our pricing is in line with that average. We always show the price clearly on the charger screen and in the app before you start a session.
That said, we’d love to double-check your specific charge to make sure everything was correct. If you can share the charger location, date/time and the last 4 digits of the payment card (or your app/email receipt), we’ll review it right away. Also note that prices via some third-party apps can differ due to their fees, so if that might apply, we can look into it.
We’re committed to transparent pricing, reliable chargers and easy payment options (contactless, app, and roaming). Here’s a bit more on how public charging costs are built up: https://www.ospreycharging.co.uk/post/cost-of-public-rapid-ev-charging
