Overall, it’s a great website builder, but I wish the premium plan offered more benefits, like the ability to install plugins. Please consider making this change; not everyone can afford to upgrade to the business plan.

And as someone said here: "What once felt freeing now feels transactional. And for writers like me, who just want to share words without paying a toll at every step, it’s exhausting." - I totally agree.

Combining endless paywalls with unintuitive tool

The tool in current state combines the worst of Human-computer interaction, and user experience practices. Paywalling every possible click, constantly interrupting the flow of work with paywalls and notifications about paid features, while offering editor that is mostly unintuitive, full of unreadable and unrecognizable icons. To find an action you are looking for, you have to hover over every icon to see the alt text of what it does. And even that is not explanatory enough.
We were looking for a quick and affordable tool, but this seems to be a bottomless spending pit.

Avoid Avoid WordPress!! frustration and unfriendly

When I decided to create a website for my property, I imagined it would be simple: upload photos, sync my calendar with Airbnb, and take bookings. That’s all. WordPress was recommended everywhere, so I gave it a try.
The reality was very different.
The dashboard felt complicated, with too many menus and options that didn’t make sense without technical knowledge.
Essential features like bookings, payments, and calendars weren’t built in — they required extra plugins, each with its own setup, fees, and learning curve.
Even after spending hours, the site didn’t look polished without more paid themes or design skills.
Constant updates and compatibility warnings made me feel like I was maintaining software, not running a rental business.
I don’t doubt WordPress is powerful in the hands of a developer, but for beginners it’s overwhelming. What I wanted was a tool, not a second job.
If you’re like me — no coding background, just needing a functional, beautiful site —don't used this website, is extremely unfriendly and the frustration is a never endidng

I've used Wordpress for just about its entire life for a bunch of websites. It's shit. It gave me more stress and worries than anything else. Every website kept getting hacked, plugin updates kept breaking, the code is a total mess, unstable.

Don't count on these people at WordPress to get your business name, trade name correct. They don't know the difference between caps or lower case. They don't even include all the words for your product or slogan. I started my website here but will be changing when my yearly plan expires. I had the same problem with HubSpot. I don't recommend them either. They outsource their SEO.

I loved WordPress… once.

I loved WordPress… once.

Back in 2017, it was beautiful, intuitive, and easy to use. As a writer and blogger, it gave me the freedom to share my thoughts without hassle. Fast forward to 2024, I returned hoping to pick up where I left off—but it’s become nearly unrecognisable.

Everything now feels geared toward upselling. I paid for the Personal Plan, only to find basic functions locked behind paywalls. Posting content has become frustrating—formats break, blocks disappear, and half the time I’m being prompted to upgrade just to continue. YouTube tutorials don’t match the current interface, and support is minimal unless you’re paying premium.

I didn’t want to move platforms—I have years of writing stored here. But I do regret renewing my subscription.

What once felt freeing now feels transactional. And for writers like me, who just want to share words without paying a toll at every step, it’s exhausting.

I worked during 7 years with a blog about demens. Trying a new "theme" but changing back to the old one, made the blog destroyed.
This couldnt be repaired.
Looking so bad why I deleted it all (mars-24) Then got a new adress for it. Way too much work to reorganise it, 750 posts/pages.
Giving up during the summer -2024. It was up until juni-25, but got very few visits cause of the mess.
Ok, was at wordpress.com, a free blog.
Doesnt matter for me, anyhow a disaster.

I have a sad experience with Wordpress

I had a sad experience with WordPress. A coach of Google Pierre G., was unpleasant during my coaching.
And after that, he blocked my access to my WordPress site because he knows some guys who work at WP.
I'm a Black, unemployed woman, and I'm sure it was racist. I feel like he can't help someone who needs it simply because I'm Black. I don't think it would be the same things if I was Eon Musk or Trump.
So many people like me are prevented from creating a website because of their background. I find it completely stupid.
If I were you, I wouldn't continue working with WordPress. I prefer to use Shopify, Wix, Drupal, etc.

Trashiest of all web hosting platforms

Trashiest of all web hosting platforms. I believe this company was exists to be gatekeeper or stumbling block to businesses in America and globally. I paid for the website special which I believed was a good deal because they deal with codes. I only joined because I saw that it could integrate with shopify. Turns out you can ony use shopify embed codes if you pay for the business plan. I have never seen such a petty display of business blocking as I saw when the platform blocking my shopify links out of a site I paid for. I build websites all day and I should've stuck to what I know before dealing with word press. It didn't even allow me to point my website away to another page. This is trash, it's been over a week and my website is still pointed at nothing. I can't wait to move my stuff away from these gate keepers. I see how the companies around them have sprung up to dominate the ecommerce landscape. They had the ball before any of the others and dropped it. I can't say how bad the platform is, I knew this was gonna be an idiot site when I saw the date and time at the top of my webpage and was struggling to remove it. I said to myself what kind of idiot platform puts a big bold date and time on the header of the page and makes it difficult to remove. They just trying to retain customers however to remain relevant including making it difficult to move your domain away from them. Customers service is non existant with this company. Avoid at all costs or at the very least request a refund early.

Evil wordpress.org is moderating all of my posts and threatening me

This is for wordpress.org, not wordpress.com. I see a lot of reviews for .com and I don't understand why they put their review in this area.

Anyway, I've been using .org for years. At least since 2014, and never had any huge issues with them.

Then in and around 2022 I figured out they were evil owned based on something they were promoting on their site or in an email.

Fast forward to February 2024, I had a problem with a plugin developer, so I gave them a bad review and said they were morons. My review got deleted and I thought the dev did it, but it turns out it was wordpress.org.

I wrote it again this time not using the word moron, just saying they don't understand English.

That's when .org put me on moderation and deleted the second review.

You see, this is more proof they are evil owned.

You can't say speak the Truth online anymore, EVERYTHING IS CENSORED. If you don't say nice things about everyone online (this is a form of brainwashing and control), then these evil corps will remove your text.

I had to track their email address down because not only were they holding my support posts for other plugin developers UNTIL they approved them like I was some kind of CRIMINAL, they were deleting the post, or that's what the page said.

The dev told me it did show up, so that's a bug.

This whole controlling slave behavior by WP wasted days of my life.

When I wrote to them, they were literally telling me they weren't going to let my posts go through unless I stopped telling people that devs don't speak English and they aren't required to speak English LOL ok, so now they are defending people who don't speak English.

I don't normally put that in my review, but this dev only cared about getting my money, NOT answering my question about his plugin & I wasted 3 days of my life with him.

WP is clearly another slave owner working for the evils who control us all like slaves.

They are controlling what I say online. It is MY RIGHT to say anything I want unless it's not true, then that's a different story.

Never EVER in all of my years with WP have I been controlled like this, but ALL of the big sites now are censoring what we can and can't say.

Tonight they deleted my thread to the other developer saying I started a new post which is a lie, I didn't.

They also ORDERED ME (yes you heard me) ORDERED ME to stop contacting the dev because I tried to email him and message him on Skype. OMG. So now I can't reach out to a plugin developer because evil wordpress ordered me not to????

There are also tons of bugs on WP.org because even when I wrote to them on WP.org initially complaining about my posts being moderated or deleted, they deleted those 2 posts too.

Then they acted in their typical arrogant manner which is the behavior I've always encountered from them whenever I post a bug report on WP about WP, not a plugin.

Do you think WP ever fixes their bugs? No, they just act like we are morons and they are superior to us. My point is, this goes back years where I've experienced this condescending attitude and now THIS is going on.

Supposedly they are all volunteers.

WP does control the entire internet. I'd say the majority of most sites use them which means they have TONS of control.

Even when I said I wouldn't speak the Truth about devs not understanding English they STILL ignored my last email & continue to block my posts from being sent to the dev right away which wastes everyone's time.

THEY ARE AN EVIL CORP.

They accused me of harassing the dev by asking them to fix their plugin but WP is removing everything I say so everything got confused and the dev started getting angry at ME because of WP interfering in OUR conversation???

Just so you know which plugin this it, it's hcaptcha by kaggdesign. I'm mentioning them in this because he started acting like a total jerk when his response to my email didn't show up.

Since he had no idea that WP was the one causing all of these problems, he was blaming me for everything.

But he could have written me back again or answered me on Skype & he didn't.

He also ignored my VA when she emailed him.

This is what WP wrote to me with their THREATSs...

"```You're harassing this dev. Keep it here; do not follow them onto other platforms (like Skype).

You’ve been placed on “modwatch” until we’re convinced such postings have stopped. Your account has *not* been banned, we just want to check things for a while before they’re public. If you wish to take issue with this, contact moderators via email at ```

But, if you continue to do things like that, you could be banned."

Do things like WHAT??? Write to the dev on the platform while WP deletes everything I WRITE???

It's now 5 months since this horrific experience went down and they are STILL moderating everything I post on WP.org as if I'm a little child.

I wish I could move to another platform and no, I won't use Wix.

I wish you would care about the people…

I wish you would care about the people who actually use Wordpress. The new features aren’t helpful AT ALL, in fact, they’re a nightmare. Why would you make the backend appearance different from the front end? Who wants a double spaced lists on the back end and a single spaced list on the front?? And the internal linking feature is now AWFUL. Use a focus group or take a poll from your users. Stop adding worthless features no one asked for nor does anyone want.

I purchased an add-on from their store, installed and configured it, but it never worked correctly. I reached out to the add-on's support desk but never received a response. Frustrated, I left a review on the WordPress site explaining my experience, only for it to be removed. WordPress advised me to contact support—something I had already mentioned in my review that I had attempted. It appears that WordPress is actively taking down reviews they don’t like, even when the feedback is fair and constructive.

A Huge Letdown

I’ve rarely encountered a platform that so effectively squeezes money out of its users as WordPress.com. You start off paying for a plan that promises everything you need to create a decent website, but you quickly realize that every normal feature requires an additional, more expensive subscription.

It feels like a classic bait and switch: you think you’ve purchased a comprehensive solution, but in reality, you’re constantly running into locked features. Want to use a header video? That’ll cost extra. Want to get rid of ads on your site? Again, you need to pay more. These are basic capabilities that other platforms usually include in their packages or price more transparently.

Frankly, I regret ever spending money on a WordPress.com plan. If you don’t want to waste both time and money on unlocking basic features, I strongly recommend looking into Wix or Squarespace, which at least won’t charge you for every little upgrade.

Bottom line: WordPress.com feels like a never-ending stream of upsells that hinders your ability to build a proper site without paying a fortune. I’m deeply disappointed and would advise anyone to steer clear.
