We are passionate about helping our clients live happier, healthier and more abundant lives. Through a combination of rapid dynamic therapies (CBT, NLP & Hypnotherapy) and emotional coaching techniques, over no more than three or four sessions most of our clients exceed their own expectations for rapid, genuine, long lasting change. We work across a myriad emotional challenges including low self confidence and self esteem, anxiety, phobias, addictions, food and relationship issues and smoking cessation. We are a small team of two - Kirsten Dahlerup and Steve Burns. Between us we have over 40 years of experience working one to one with over 6,000 clients. We work in very (very) different ways using different modalities, so it is rare that we can't help a client change. Kirsten for example has a passion for and specialises in healing childhood trauma whilst Steve is more focussed around addictions, phobias and emotional coaching. In this crazy world of ours, living an emotionally healthy life is the key to living a happier life and given we only get one shot, perhaps it's time to consider doing some work on yourself because as John Milton so aptly put it: ‘The mind is its own place - it can make a heaven out of hell or a hell out of heaven.’

I began my self-development journey about two years ago and was recently recommended to see Kirsten. Over the course of 4 sessions, she created an incredibly caring, welcoming, and safe space that allowed me to open up and explore areas I hadn’t previously questioned. Kirsten is deeply empathetic and perceptive, and she guided each session with a gentle but purposeful approach that made the process both insightful and grounding.
I had never done hypnotherapy before and didn’t really know what to expect, but the experience went far beyond what I could have imagined. She provided me with practical tools to help manage my anxieties and encouraged a deeper level of self-reflection. I left our sessions questioning many aspects of my life — even those I had considered certain — but perhaps that was exactly what I needed at this stage of my journey. I’m very much looking forward to the months ahead, putting into practice everything she’s taught me, and would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone considering hypnotherapy.
Before I met Kirsten, I was a little uncertain about the benefits of hypnotherapy but after giving birth and being overwhelmed with all the changes and trauma that post partum brings, I decided to seek some support from Kirsten after a recommendation from a friend. I am SO glad I did. She is sunshine on screen and over 3 sessions, she was able to hugely help to calm my nervous system and begin to uncover some further areas to explore. Kirsten does everything gently and with genuine care for her clients, she makes everything accessible and explains what she is doing and why. I felt totally safe and relaxed. I am looking forward to working with her again. My husband has already become a client too! Thank you, Kirsten!

I had four sessions with Kirsten Dahlerup and she is absolutely amazing. She is very perceptive, empathetic and gentle and she made the process feel very safe and easy. I feel as if I have resolved issues that have been stuck for many years and now at last I have the freedom and understanding to move on. I highly recommend her and only wish I had found her years ago. This healing might have taken two years of talking therapy but it only took four sessions with Kirsten.

I saw Kirsten Dahlerup for work on seasickness in preparation for my English Channel relay swim. I had been very ill on boat practice previously, and tried medications that didn't work. I read a scientific research paper about the benefits of hypnotherapy in treatment of seasickness, and gave it ago!
The results speak for themselves. I was one of the people who were not seasick on the boat. Many other teams had to turn back due to seasickness. For the first time in my life I handled the waves without fear or consequence. In short, it worked!!!
Aside from this, Kirsten's manner and style is so kind, supportive and nourishing. I actually enjoyed our sessions together and had confidence in her and the process, which was justified! She also got me to visualise my success, so I am sure that we did more than just cure me of my terrible seasickness.
Highly recommend!

I’ve previously tried different therapies and therapists over the years but none of them for me personally had a tangible impact on how I viewed things. I can say that Steve really made me have a different perspective on life. He provided me with the tools and materials I needed, which enabled me to work through and improve how I respond to things, and to look at myself in a much healthier way. I’m so grateful for the time I had with Steve and the impact he has had on my life. I couldn’t recommend him highly enough.
I just completed a hypnotherapy program for alcohol addiction with Kirsten Dahlerup and I am thrilled with the results. the sessions helped me identify and challenge negative thought patterns, manage cravings and develop healthier coping mechanisms.Kirsten was compassionate, understanding and tailored the approach to my needs.
I highly recommend Kirsten to anybody struggling with alcohol addiction.

I had a fantastic experience with Steve. I was having issues in my life and was unhappy. Steve helped me to look at my life through a different lens and challenged my beliefs about myself. I feel so different now; and that is thanks to Steve. What a great guy!
Steve was brilliant in helping me get back on track and the practices he teaches and encourages is really making a difference in my life. I owe him a lot!
Great sessions, and stopped smoking with ease. very caring and helpful
After countless attempts to stop smoking, spanning over a decade, using every available aid on the market and technique, I decided to give hypnosis a go, quite reluctantly at first (I honestly thought that nothing could help me break this habit). What can I say, Steve Burns did his thing and it worked, It's now been 8 weeks and have tried all the things that I thought would trigger me to cave in, and the will not to smoke is increasing. The therapy lounge knows how to get results and for this I will always be grateful.
Steve Burns is the best in the business. His no nonsense approach combined with genuine care for his clients worked perfectly for me .
Can’t recommend highly enough
By sheer dumb luck I found Steve Burns after running a search for “driving phobia therapy near me”.
I worked with Steve for a couple of months to help me deal with crippling driving-related anxiety, which has held me back for literally years.
It’s not cheap but it is exceptional value for money. You should be prepared to work VERY hard, read and study a lot, change the way you think about things, and to show genuine courage and face up to your fears. But it will change your life.
The practices, beliefs and habits I’ve picked up from working with Steve has given me back my freedom on the roads and has equipped me to better deal with general anxiety in day-to-day life. If I could give this rating 6 stars, or 10, or 50, it wouldn’t be nearly enough to express how wholeheartedly I endorse The Therapy Lounge.
Thank you Steve!
I first went to see the lovely Kirsten in 2020, recommended to me by a dear friend. One session changed my life forever and I am so grateful. I was in my 40s, wanted a baby and to meet a partner I could share my life with but kept attracting difficult relationships with men who had narcissistic traits, and were co-dependent. I had one session which changed how I saw the world and myself, permanently. 6 months later I met a kind thoughtful funny gorgeous man who is now my husband and the father of our little boy and I couldn't be happier. I also have better relationships at work and personal relationships and all aspects of my life have improved. The session itself was amazing, we talked through things first which made a lot of sense and then I was put in a trance even though we were not in the same location and this seemed to re-enforce what we had already talked about. Thank you Kirsten.

No magic wands or magic here. Just a lot of work and reflection as part of a process that has opened my eyes to a different way of looking at life. While I am still hoping for the much sought-after new job, I feel happier, more content, and present.
The universe definitely brought me to find Steve. Steve is a wonderful and generous therapist who has helped me see and understand myself and the world around me, so I can live a better and happier life.
This isn’t easy, and I can’t pretend I’m ‘already there,’ but I now have good tools to help bring about the change I need.
Kirsten is absolutely amazing. I was always in toxic relationships where I did all of the giving and none of the taking. I would put up with bullying and abuse. I found her online and decided to give hypnosis a try as other forms of therapy had been effective when it came to diagnosis, but nothing actually changed. Five sessions with Kirsten and I noticed actual change in my life a mere three days later. My life changed forever and I have not been in a SINGLE TOXIC RELATIONSHIP IN OVER A DECADE. I went back recently to try and improve my life further (the older you get, the more you find out about yourself), and the sessions were brilliant. I'll let you all know how it turns out soon. Thank you Kirsten. You're an angel.

This is my second time working with Steve and on both occasions he has made a huge impact. Being a coach myself, I can appreciate I tend to think I know it all, but he is a master of making you stop and think. Making you listen, and getting you out of your own head. Authentic, honest and to the point I value my interactions with Steve immensely. Whilst life can at times get in the way, he has reminded me of what i important. I would (and have) recommend him to anyone.
It has been a pleasure working with Kirsten, she immediately make you feel at ease, listens, empathises, and really understands whatever it is you want support with. Kirsten has been invaluable in support me and my family and we are very grateful.

I was referred to Steve by a friend last year, but I put off making an appointment for months. I was skeptical and it felt like a big change which I wasn’t sure I wanted, let alone if I could. I just knew I had to.
Spoiler alert: I did it. With Steve.
(He’ll say I did it myself so let me rephrase: I couldn’t have done it without Steve.)
Steve’s calm, direct, and professional but approachable manner really put me at ease. He gave me the confidence to trust both him and the process to kick my habit and change my mindset.
I’d like to continue seeing Steve on my own terms going forward do discuss/address other concerns of mine and I’d absolutely recommend him to anyone who’s been thinking about taking that next step but feeling unsure. It might be exactly what you need.
Going to steve has been life changing, his straightforward, no nonsense and comedic approach was what i needed. I am now 4 months sober and would recommend him to anyone who is struggling with anything. Thank you so much steve
I've been working with Steve for 4 years now and consider sessions with him to be essential to bettering myself and helping me grow my business. I highly recommend Steve as a life coach & business coach, to anyone looking to improve their mindset and bounce back mentality!
