avoid avoid avoid
avoid avoid avoid , I’m wanting to cancel the agreement which after 5 years is no longer under contract but now the goal posts have moved and they are demanding payment in full for the next YEAR, my business has been closed for the last 14 months due to COVID and I carried on paying the rental dispute being closed. They haven’t the decency to accept my termination even though the business is now closed.

Don't use this company
Don't use this company as, for whatever reason you need to close your business early, they will not let you out of your contract and you have to pay until the end. My telephone and insurance companies have let me just pay for the time I have been in business but not Merchant Rentals, they are very greedy.
I personally am retiring owing to my husband's ill health but all the have done is quote me 'their rules".
Having read your answer it looks as though my husband would have had to arrange to be ill and have his operation to coincide with then end of your contract.

Avoid at all costs
Avoid at all costs , used them for 18years then sold business , i was informed they renew automatically every year and i would have to pay £171.00 to get out of my contract, bunch of day light robbers who should be exposed ,

EDIT*****
The day after my review below a manger has contacted me and resolved the issue with a apology for the way I was treated as a long standing customer I am now satisfied and my contract has been cancelled with confirmation via email . Thank you Judith for resolving this .
Rang up to cancel my agreement october 2020 I have had my card machine since 2016 !! Spoke to a polite man on the phone who told me my account was on hold whilstI took legal advice on this .
I then received a letter in the post to a old address saying they are taking further action from not paying for my terminal .
I was told I am still in contract ?! News to me ? They wont provide me with proof I have rang and spoke to the rudest women I have ever come across who ended up putting the phone down on me when I asked for the complaints procedure !! Awful awful awful stay well away even if they are cheap avoid pay more money they aren’t worth the time of day !!

Absolutely terrible
Absolutely terrible! I have had a contract with them since 2017. Since last March I have emailed and and telephoned constantly to close my account as I have not traded since March 2020 but have only received stubborn and rudeness telling me my contract should continue until September of this year! Absolutely no empathy whatsoever and Handypay should separate from them immediately! Handypay were wonderful and cancellled last year! How can a company ask for money from a business that has no money coming in at all through no fault of it’s own?Dont touch them with a barge pole!!!!
AVOID...AVOID... AVOID ... MISLEADING INFORMATION
AVOID...AVOID... AVOID MISLEADING INFORMATION
Very poor customer and technical service, my terminal has been faulty for the last 18 months although I reported it few times. I decided to cancel it, been sent an invoice that I have to pay till 02/22, although I passed the 12 month initial agreement, they told me I am on a 12 months rolling contract after that, which I never been told when I joined. I was told it is a one month rolling contract with one month notice. All lies and misleading information.
This company is dodgy
This company is dodgy. Why? Simple, because you can't give a 3months notice as stated in they contract. They renew automatically year by year the contract making this affectively a year notice required. I have cancelled the contract with them in January 2021 as I sold the shop, but I have still to pay till February 2022. Is this reasonable? Why their contract has to be based in year by year and not like any ther contractsbased in months?
New terminal.
Needed to have a second hand terminal for the business. Merchants Rentals provided quickly and efficiently one that met all our requirements. Easy to set up with no issues.

AVOID⚠️
Well I had a friendly sales person who misinformed me at the start of my 48 month contract by telling me when my contract is about to end we will inform you. And you must give us one months notice. I for filled my contract and gave 7 wks notice. Only to be told its 12 wks notice. I was never informed of this. its in the very small print. Never the less this was hidden. No notice that your contract is about to end and entrapped into a roll over-12mth extension contract, that I don't want or need. This is bad business conduct and you need to AVOID this company. I would stay away from Merchant Rentals, EVO payments and Handepay. There all the same company with different names. Good luck you have been warned😒

Relentless in these difficult times, we no longer take cards I'm pleased to say our small business can cope very well without!

Julie Armson…
I was very impressed with Julie Armson in dealing what could have been an absolute disaster. I received a new Genico Terminal and they had omitted to include start up instructions. I was totally lost and very disappointed. Julie used her initiative, located a copy of the instructions and emailed them to me. I would not have been able to complete the installation without Julie's help. In my opinion, by using her initiative Julie went above and beyond what would normally be expected and within a few hours from being a very disappointed customer I was extremely happy and content. Thank you Julie.

When joining couldn’t be more helpful, when leaving they are awful!
We gave them full notice on leaving, they didn’t send us final settlement figure, then charged us late payment fees!
When we asked why we were being charged the first answer was because you were billed and you didn’t pay
We said we hadn’t received it, basically accused of lying!
Asked again to prove they sent the email, they said they couldn’t because a different person sent it!
Ask again said... it wasn’t sent, but it was... YOUR fault as YOU should have asked for it!!!!
Finally spoke to someone who admitted it hadn’t been sent to us & that they should have sent the final settlement figure out to us by email.
They apologised and took late payment fees off!
Then got a email from the previous consultant saying as a matter of good will they had taken the charges off!
Really I thought it was apology!
Same consultant wanted proof the PUB was shut since 21st March 2020 & we were no longer trading (don’t they watch the news or go out or live in the same world as the rest of us?)
Didn’t the fact I told you I was leaving in February sink in then?
Then after I had sent the terminal back at MY OWN COST ( all other companies I’ve ever dealt with send their own courier to collect the terminals) to the address THEY provided said they hadn’t received it and they were going to charge ME for it!!!
Some good staff & some that make things worse!!!!
Honestly would it have hurt to apologise, say they made a mistake and put it right?
Well only one in the three members of staff did this!
The settlement fee is basically what you would pay if trading until the end of the contract anyway, so what’s the point in giving notice or cancelling, basically no way out if you need it to finish earlier & they want their terminal back to get double the money out of it!
Would not recommend
Stay Away - not professional or pleasant to deal with.
Unfortunately this company hides behind the external companies who use them and their unclear and deliberately misleading wording of their contracts in order to extort money from you. Be VERY wary of them and their motives. The best bit of advice I can give you is to HAND IN YOUR NOTICE immediately so you don't get fleeced at the end of your minimum period for another year's rental charges for being a day late in sending notice to them.
They also hide behind 'We are recording these telephone calls so if we don't find your call it won't be counted' bully tactics and the agressive manner of their 'Customer Service' staff is appalling. Very intimidating and unpleasant. Steer clear - find a friendly company to deal with directly as this company is just a group of charlatans out for as much money as they can get from you. Very one sided and very intimidating.
Zero Star Rating
If it were possible to rate this company at 0 stars that would be my selection.
Beware of entering any contract with them as it is totally one sided and should you ever want to change merchant services, you will pay and pay and pay.

Pat did a great job in helping me swap card machines over to a mobile network one. The process was very smooth and our new machine came really quickly. She gave us a call once it was all here to check it was all running smoothly.
Great service thanks very much Pat :)

Great service.
Julie was very helpful and efficient. I needed one more contract but already had three separate ones. Julie combined all the contracts into one which will save me time and money. I would recommend Merchant Rentals as they have always provided a great service and nothing is too much trouble. I get many phone calls offering to change my contracts but I always stay with Merchant Rentals. Thanks again from a very happy customer.

We needed our card machine for card not present as we were closing our office and the current model we had was only for use in the office, this was speedily resolved for us and we had a new card machine delivered to one of my staff members home within days.
Great service and attention
Thank you
