Riverside Turns Dreams Into Reality
Riverside has allowed me to make my dream come true. Telling the stories of my community, the stories of Africans across the continent, has always been my mission. But without Riverside, I wouldn’t have been able to sit down with someone in Côte d’Ivoire or South Africa and hear them as if we were sitting right next to each other. On top of that, the fact that it makes it so easy to create snapshots for social media means I can focus more on recording and less on worrying about content.
I simply LOVE Riverside
I simply LOVE Riverside. It makes my podcast creation a breeze. It feels like its designed by creators for creators. I save a bunch of time with its features. Its AI implementation feels sound and logic, and I use some features more than others. Some not. But it works!
The UI is great, guests feel right at home when recording. I actually send a podcast suitcase to my guests all around the country (Norway). They connect the received camera, mic and set up the lighting with me over the phone. We hook up in the Studio, and voila! Thebackground upload function works. I had a guest that was on a shitty LTE line. Turned off video visibility to save bandwith. The local recording was uploaded a few hours later and the edit was smashing. Usually the upload is done instantly on regular guests.
The magic edit, promo clips etc are a lifesaver.
A few parts to improve: The auto transcription into Norwegian could be better. The finishing touches requires quite a lot of manual labor. And the UI for fixing the transcription could also be a tad smoother.
The UI for editing is 4+. Sometimes some of the functions stop responding and I have to exit and reenter the project to get it working correctly again.
But over all I LOVE Riverside!

At first I was afraid
At first I was afraid, I was petrified… to use Riverside. It is too fancy for small creators but that is good, because it also helps you and pushes you too to improve your skills and to find new ways to create and take advantage of the resources Riverside offers. It is intimidating but you also have a lot of videos and guides to learn how to use the features. It is overwhelming at times but if you take the time to understand, you will create better every time. I wish the studio had more language options because when you are overwhelmed and overstimulated, tired of recording and correcting, that you don’t explore more and there are things you understand better in your local language. The tech and customer support is amazing and friendly.
Try it. It is mostly user friendly and reasonably priced.
I used to use Streamyard, but the price went through the roof and they didn't give notice very conspicuously that this was going to happen.
After doing a lot of research on alternatives I found Riverside. it had at that time all the features I wanted and needed at a better price. But since I joined, they add new features very regularly.
It now does way more than I would ever need, but many people would find it very useful. Including its AI clips from recordings one can use to promote a show or live stream.
I haven't actually used it yet for a live stream, I use it for recording interviews and the quality I get is fantastic. You can hook up a 1st rate camera like a Sony A7 IV and capture in 4K (if you can figure out where those controls are) and your recording is way into the professional quality.
Riverside is one of those things you almost don't want to tell others about in case it gets to popular and becomes less accessible. Hopefully they will continue to offer the excellent capabilities and RAPID tech help I have experienced with them so far.
Still good and continually improving
I really like using Riverside to record podcast episodes with guests. I especially like 3 things:
1. There's no limit on how long you can have a guest in the recording studio. This is super helpful as we often need to check lighting, have some small talk about the session, or just take breaks in between episodes (I like to film 4 episodes in a 2-3 hour session with a guest). Zoom and Meet limit the length of the meeting unless you're in the pro versions. I feel like the price to value that I get from Riverside far exceeds those two, especially in comparison to their pro versions.
2. Editing has improved A LOT since two years ago. I always liked that I could edit the transcript directly to clip ums and awkward spots, but now the layouts and quality of the shorts/clips are so much better. I edited a whole podcast ep inside Riverside last week, no need to drop it into Final Cut. Gamechanger in terms of efficiency without sacrificing quality.
3. Recording locally improves the quality when the guest has a poor wifi connection. I've found that the guest tends to be very impressed by this feature when I tell them about it, which is usually after they start to apologize for the quality of their camera or share a worry about the data connection.
Overall I'm going to keep using Riverside to record and edit the content pieces I put on YouTube and Instagram. Check it out if you're looking for a quality service that delivers consistently.
Riverside inspires confidence
I was a complete novice when I started using Riverside to create my podcast. I wasn't savvy with media and technology either. Happily, the user- friendly set up that made me choose Riverside turned out to be the real deal. The team is amazing and the support always exceeds my expectations. As a new podcast creator, I can learn my craft, knowing the tech side of things is sound and well-supported.
Asked to cancel
Asked to cancel. They still charged me for the year. Asked for my money back, they have not done so. Painful company to deal with
User friendly
User friendly , finished product is quality and price point easy
Bad web app. Avoid.
-Confusing UI makes it difficult for guests to connect and set themselves up.
-Too resource heavy, which causes issues for users who are using less powerful computers. This results in freezes and disconnections.
-Often unsupportive of bluetooth hardware such as bluetooth headphones and microphones. Most modern everyday people are no longer using wired headphones and therefore don't have access to them anymore.
-Extremely poor echo-cancellation algorithm which is required when not using wired headphones. Audio recordings, even though marked "RAW" are affected by the echo cancellation which makes sections of recorded dialogue completely unintelligible, unrepairable and therefore unusable.
-Guests need to be techy savy to use this web-app effectively, which makes the app redundant, as a tech savy user can always record and send audio/video via other means therefore negating the need to pay for such a service.
Excellent application with some really…
Excellent application with some really useful add ons. I have been using Riverside or around 6 months now and I have found to be very useful for many of the promotional and thought leadership videos I am creating.
I find it easy to use and the help and training videos are very useful too.
From Novice to Pro
As a novice video content creator, Riverside took me from terrible to good quickly. I love the 4K quality, the AI tools, and the fact the platform is continuously developing. Also really good support through tutorials and community sessions that have elevated my thinking significantly.
Excellent value proposition
Excellent value proposition, and it's crazy what of enable the riverside software is. Highly recommended
PATHETIC
PATHETIC. ALways Some technical error.
I record for 30 mins and then the stop sign is suddenly disabled.
And it takes 15 mins to connect to a support agent, on the PRO plan.
And the agents seem clueless, asking to give all sorts of information.
I mean come on,
DONT GO FOR IT.
Poor platform, poor customer service, charged again after cancelling
Let's see where to start... First thing is the background of riverside.fm won't let you use it unless your computer has certain specs... but it will work for a little bit like in the middle of a stream and then switch back to no background. Then the customer service is absolutely atrocious, as in almost non-existent. 3rd, after following the instructions to cancel my account I get charged like a week later... and then after canceling it again for the 2nd time.. I just got an email from them saying they tried to run my card again. Unbelievably bad experience!
DO NOT GO WITH THIS COMPANY..
Been using for 3 months - It's totally busted.
Been using for 3 months. The service has become beyond shocking in the last two weeks. I am still trying to edit a 5 minute video 2 DAYS after uploading it. Constant crashing. GET SOME BETTER SERVERS!!!!
Lost so many tracks since using this - support very slow. A great shame as they have a good product but they don't have the infrastructure to deliver it. no-one trying to do anything professional or timely should be using this. It's totally busted.
Horrible Experience
I used Riverside over a year ago and had a paid subscription. I had a consistent issue where every time I would download audio locally, it would include sound artifacts that were not in the original recording. Between that and other issues I had with the site not working consistently, I cancelled my subscription. They still billed me anyways last year, so I had to go back and forth with customer support for several weeks to finally get my account cancelled and a refund. Yesterday, A YEAR after I cancelled, they started harassing me via email saying I have a subscription and demanding payment. Even after forwarding all of the emails I have saved from last year, they are still giving me issues.
This is a common issue that many people have complained about. It is amazing to me how awful their customer service is. I do not recommend them at all.
This service has got worse over the…
This service has got worse over the years to the point where its unbareable. A better service could swoop in and steal customers. They move features around and break them and then there is a non existent customer service to help with the issues they created
Bringing my ideas to life in a way I didn't think was possible
I am an "ideas" person much more than a "doing" person. A lot of my ideas never make it into practice because I struggle with the tedious parts of bringing them to life. Riverside has made it easy. I've been podcasting and building a course. I HATE editing video but riverside makes it a total breeze. I love this program.
