I set up a small business account. Transferred money in. Then they determined that my account was not approved...never gave me a reason... There were no transactions on my account other than my initial balance transfer INTO my new account. So I then tried to transfer my balance out of their bank. They still have not allowed this. There are no pending transactions, nothing. I can't get a human to contact me. So they have essentially stolen my initial balane that I transferred in.
I’ve been using Relay Financial for a couple of years now and can no longer recommend this “bank”. I was just on hold waiting for 30 mins for a rep. Previously the longest I waited was 5-6 mins. This time the rep was rude, would not create a technical ticket and when I asked to speak with a supervisor he refused and told me I refused his instructions (which was false). Relay changed their security protocol and told me it was an apple problem. Even those all other financial and banking apps and sites function without an issue. Relay used to be great and I told everyone, now…not so much. I think its time to make a change, the customer support is in the toilet.
So I received a suspicious activity alert and noticed a charge I didn’t recognize. When I checked my account, the charge didn’t even appear, which was both a relief but concerning.
I tried to report it as unusual per the email, but the verification code I was required to enter was sent to a phone number I stopped using over a year ago!
This isn’t the first time Relay has failed to update my contact information, even though I’ve corrected it before. It’s absolutely ridiculous that my outdated info remains in their system. This kind of negligence is exactly how fraudulent activity slips through!
Every time I think Relay’s service can’t get worse, they prove me wrong.
By the way, the only way I've been able to actually get someone to contact me (notice I didn't say "help", just that someone would contact me) is by leaving a review about my experience.
They like to respond here to appear as though they care, but it's all for show. Relay is not a bank, and the bank they're tied to, "Thread Bank", is equally a joke.
Deposit a teller check 20k and compliance team at Relay said teller check bank recall. Relay took my remaining balance $17k and said they sent it to the other bank. I check with bank I got the teller check and they didn't recall check and the 20k check was cleared. I sent my proof they didn't recall. I have requested proof from Relay/Thread and ask what they did with my remaining balance over $17k. It's been two days of sending emails and phone calls to support team and compliance to find out what they did with my money.
Everytime I called they say they can't give me any info on where my money got transfer to. Without getting any proof it raises Red Flags and they sold my money.
I suggest if you are putting any money in account don't go over 10k or you will be screw and Relay/Thread will take your money.
Finally a bank that I like and seems to actually care about tech. Also, they have really nice customer support, they just helped me add a DBA.
Great customer service, and super quick to resolve any issues that may come up!
I have never been able to get money out of the account, only deposit money into the account. The many times I've called for support I was not able to be helped. I had to submit a letter to a bank board to make a payment with my visa debit card for over 200.00. I had to wait a week and only was allowed to go over that amount on a specific day. The communication was delayed and I was not able to use the card for the higher amount because the specific day passed that was approved. In other words you can't get money out of the account which had plenty of money in it. This week I received a letter stating I was non complaint and they were going to shut the account down in 10 days and any money in it was basically theirs if I didn't get it out. Again calling support in a panic because I've never been able to get my money out of the account, I asked what I was non compliant about. I've never been able to get money out of the account. The support person was nice but said she could not tell me. When I asked for something in writing and to talk with someone that could explain this she said no one will explain it or get back to me. WHAT? I've had bank accounts for 59 years and never have had this type of problems.
I’m newer to Relay but so far it’s been an incredible experience! On-boarding with intention and organization. Plus, quick follow ups for routine needs or questions.
I had issue with 2FA past couple of days and it was a horror for me not beeing able to log in thanks to Rhey he called me today and ressolved any issue.
CUSTOMER SUPPORT TOP NOTCH!
Tip: if you call outside the US let your number for support to call you back otherwise you gonna get extreme high internation fee for the call.
Great customer service. Just always opt for the call back when needing to speak with someone. My issue was resolved quickly, it was expedited since Im outside the country. Very helpful team. I also like the app very much as well. Everything works well with this online bank and I highly recommend it.

She seemed helpful and like she knew what she was doing but after we hung up the 2FA that we set up does not work.
Despite issues technically, once the engineering team of Carlo and her associate got on a video call to help me through the weeks long set of problems - they did so expediently, efficiently, professionally and with wonderful communication skills that made it an easy fix.

Disappointing Experience
Our experience with Relay Bank was very frustrating. Account setup was simple, but ongoing operations were filled with issues.
Customer service repeatedly failed to provide clear answers, and two wire transfers were returned without explanation.
Each interaction required multiple follow-ups and unnecessary delays — everything took much longer than it should have.
We ultimately decided to close both accounts due to the ongoing complications.
