Spurious Cleaning charge

My experience with this company is similar to Sam Taylor's.
My stepson used to rent a room in a property managed by Homemaker. He terminated the tenancy, and we (i.e. he, his mother & myself) cleared out his belongings and cleaned the room/en-suite just prior to the end date (early Feb. 2021) and then awaited return of his deposit. 1-2 weeks later he got it back but short by £54 with no explanation as to the shortfall. So I (my stepson has given me authority to deal with Homemaker on all matters regarding his tenancy and informed Homemaker of this) contacted Liam Harris (lettings manager) by email to query the deduction. He replied it was a cleaning charge for clearing out rubbish. I knew this to be untrue as we had left the room/en-suite in a very clean, very tidy and very presentable state. So I sent Mr.H. photos we had taken as proof of this. Next day, I followed this up with a phone call to Mr.H. and he said Antony (McMullan) was now dealing with the matter and he would get back to me/my stepson. 3 weeks have passed and no word from Mr A.M. In that time I have phoned Homemaker several times but Mr A.M. is always out. The excuse given is Mr A.M's wife has just had a baby and he's only working part time but he has a mobile phone and he has my/my stepson's contact number. My advice to people considering using this letting agency's services is think very carefully before you do so, Mr.Taylor and my stepson may not be the only one's who have suffered
Please note, I had to give a rating to post this review, I would have preferred to give no stars, and I believe Mr.A.M. has never replied to Mr.Taylor's comments/rating

Dishonest and rude

I don’t really write reviews, but i feel it my moral obligation to write this and warn others. Absolutely shocking service, would not recommend at all, dishonest and take advantage of students and the financially vulnerable. To give you an idea, they charged £200+ VAT (which is bizarre because the prices of goods and services are to include VAT) to clean a cooker and a microwave and that was quote: “more than reasonable.” So £240 total charged to clean the aforementioned appliances. When challenged and asked for the invoice from the cleaners, Anthony McMullan (commercial partner) made his own invoice from Homemaker as opposed to the actual invoice from the cleaners. Our deposits were not protected and he deducted an obscene amount of money without any justification, just hoping we wouldn’t query the deductions because we are students. Terrible and dishonest.
